Singapore's oldest youth rehabilitation centre, Boys' Town, will get a new S$15 million building in 2012. It is hoped the new facilities will help cater to underprivileged and at-risk youths, whom it has been serving for the last 60 years.
Boys' Town Singapore is a unique Catholic Institution dedicated to providing guidance, shelter, education, vocational training and practical living skills to youths. Boys' Town was established in 1948 as a charitable institution by the Brothers of St Gabriel. They provide boarding and residential care for boys ages 11 - 18 who come primarily from large, troubled, single parent and financially needy families.

The current building was hand-built by the Brothers of St. Gabriel in 1948, with its plumbing dating back to the 1950s. The new three-storey building at Boys' Town's Upper Bukit Timah premises will still accommodate 60 boys, but there will be eight boys to a room, compared to 30 per room today.
A new library, three counselling rooms and an arts studio where boys can learn multimedia skills will also be added. It will also be looking to set up a Facebook and Twitter account to reach out to today's net-savvy generation. So far, S$6 million has been raised for the building project and another S$9 million will be raised through various initiatives.
