The new extension to Barramundi Asia's barramundi nursery was officially unveiled by the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Masagos Zulkifli, on 27 February.
The nursery is located in the south of Singapore on Pulau Semakau, now has 1,200 sq m more space and the addition of eight giant 50 cubic m tanks.
Barramundi Asia is ramping up production to 6,000 tonnes of fish yearly, which is more than what Singapore's 120 fish farms produced in 2018. This means a more consistent local fish supply and less fluctuations in fish prices throughout the year.
Founded in 2008, Barramundi Asia Pte Ltd (BAPL) is one of the largest companies in the world farming Barramundi in the ocean and draws on world-class sustainable fish farming practices and aquaculture technology. Granted the only two fish farming licenses in the Southern waters of Singapore, BAPL is the largest fish farm in Singapore by biomass. The Company focuses on the full value chain (“Farm-to-Fork”) from the hatchery, nursery, sea cage farm, processing to marketing with its own registered brand Kühlbarra (B2C and B2B) which allows it to capture the full premium value. BAPL’s vision is to become the world’s largest supplier of fresh sustainable Barramundi. BAPL has also developed and wholly owns a vaccines business and production lab, Uvaxx Pte Ltd, which develops and supplies proprietary autogenous vaccines for its own and third-party farm operations.

The new Digital Loyang II (SIN12) Singapore data centre is expected to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2020, marking a significant expansion and further development of the Digital Realty Loyang connected campus.
Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), a leading global provider of data centre, colocation and interconnection solutions.
The new data centre in Loyang Drive will be located less than 25 kilometres from Singapore's central business district and will provide up to 50 megawatts (MW) of critical power capacity to regional and global customers. The multi-story facility will offer a total footprint of 34,000 square metres and will ultimately broaden opportunities for more international companies to expand their core digital assets into the key Singapore market.
Both the existing SIN11 and planned SIN12 facilities are strategically located close to the Changi North Cable landing station, a key sub-sea internet landing station for the region. Digital Realty already enjoys a relationship with Singapore Internet Exchange (SGIX) to provide local peering at Digital Realty's Singapore data centre facilities in Jurong West (SIN10) and Loyang East (SIN11). Customers in both facilities benefit from this relationship through greater and more cost-effective connectivity options. These peering points on both ends of the island enhance the overall resiliency of the peering solution ecosystem in Singapore.
The CRL is Singapore's eighth MRT line and also our longest fully underground line. When fully completed, it will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, western, and north-eastern corridors, linking major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region. The projected daily ridership of the entire CRL is more than 600,000 in the initial years, increasing to over 1 million in the longer term.
LTA will construct the CRL in three phases. Phase 1 of the CRL (CRL1) is 29 kilometres long, and comprises 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill. This will serve residential and industrial areas such as Loyang, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Defu, Hougang, Serangoon North and Ang Mo Kio. More than 100,000 households will benefit from CRL1, and common recreational spaces such as Changi Beach Park and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park will also become more accessible by public transport. Construction for CRL1 is expected to commence in 2020 and be completed by 2029.
Engineering studies are still being conducted for the other phases of the CRL, including the two underground alignment options in the vicinity of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. LTA has consulted various stakeholders and will take all views into consideration before deciding on the final alignment. Details will be announced when ready.
With the improved connectivity, CRL1 will shorten travel times for commuters between the central, north-eastern and eastern parts of Singapore. For instance, a commuter staying at Serangoon North and working at Loyang Industrial Estate will enjoy travel time savings of up to 70%, from 75 minutes by bus today to 25 minutes on the CRL1. As with the introduction of other new rail lines, LTA will review the bus services in surrounding areas to optimise connectivity to CRL1 and the rest of the rail network.
CRL1 will connect to the East-West Line at Pasir Ris Station, North East Line at Hougang Station, North-South Line at Ang Mo Kio Station, and the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line at Bright Hill Station. This multiplies the travel route options for many commuters’ journeys, thus enhancing the connectivity and resilience of our overall rail network.
The Founders’ Memorial station, located between Tanjong Rhu and Gardens by the Bay stations along the TEL, will improve accessibility for visitors to the Bay East Garden, where the memorial will be located. The station will also serve upcoming residential and recreational developments in the area.
