Singapore is getting a new Qantas first class lounge!
Qantas has announced a multi-million dollar investment in a new First Lounge and an expansion of the airline’s existing Business Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport.
With development due to start in April 2019, the Singapore First Lounge will offer seating for 240 customers, a luxurious design and premium a la carte dining with Asian-inspired menus.
The existing Business Lounge, which opened in 2013, will also be expanded. Combined, the First and Business Lounges will offer seating for more than 800 customers.
Qantas will work with Chef Neil Perry and Industrial Designer David Caon in collaboration with Akin Atelier, to create a relaxing, high quality environment for passengers to either start their international journey or transit through Singapore. The design will embody a clear focus on sustainability with choices in materials, lighting interior, layouts and amenities all reflecting the highest local and international design techniques.
Set to open towards the end of 2019, the new First Lounge will be designed to suit the specific needs of transit travellers, with shower facilities, a cocktail bar, open kitchen and menu offerings reflecting the best of Singapore’s vibrant dining culture. It will join Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles as Qantas ports with a dedicated First Lounge.
Singapore is Qantas’ largest hub outside of Australia, carrying more than 20 per cent of the airline’s wide body fleet. Qantas operates over 50 return services in to and out of Changi Airport each week, making it one of the largest foreign airlines to operate out of the Singapore airport. From Singapore, Jetstar Group operates 298 weekly return flights to 26 destinations.
In addition to Qantas’ investment in Singapore, the airline recently announced it will upgrade its lounges in Tokyo, Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart and Tamworth in regional Australia. A new Melbourne Domestic lounge precinct is due to open at the end of October.
An innovative and seamless travel experience, in addition to a spectacular and spacious lounge, is what Cathay Pacific customers can look forward to when using the brand new Changi Airport Terminal 4.
The opening of Terminal 4 in end-October also unveiled a dedicated Cathay Pacific Lounge, one of the airline’s largest lounges outside Hong Kong, with seating for more than 200 customers.
Terminal 4 takes innovation to the next level by offering Cathay Pacific customers an integrated suite of self-service options, reducing queueing time and speeding up the process right through to boarding.
Passengers will be able to check-in, drop off their bag, clear immigration and board using fully automated systems, thereby ensuring a seamless, stress-free passage and allowing them greater control over how they spend their time at the terminal.
Similar in style to Cathay Pacific’s award-winning lounges at The Pier in Hong Kong, the new Cathay Pacific Lounge at Terminal 4 provides a “living room” environment of understated luxury in which eligible passengers can relax, eat and work before their flight.
Designer furniture and lighting has been carefully selected for practicality, comfort and privacy, while the use of natural materials, plenty of greenery and artworks by local artists add to the lounge’s welcoming atmosphere.
There is also a strong focus on food and beverage services, with the dining area featuring Cathay Pacific’s iconic Noodle Bar, offering a selection of freshly prepared Asian dishes including its signature Dan Dan Noodles and local favourite, Singapore Laksa.
A new 9,250-square-metre training centre has opened at Seletar Aerospace. A joint venture between aeroplane manufacturer Airbus and Singapore Airlines (SIA), it is set to become the largest Airbus flight crew training centre in the world, offering courses for up to 10,000 flight crew trainees per year.
When fully operational in 2019, the US$100 million (S$135 million) facility will be home to eight full-flight simulators, including three A350 XWBs, one A380, two A330s and two A320s. It will also have two additional simulator bays for potential growth. The centre is Airbus' fourth, alongside those in Toulouse, Miami and Beijing.
The centre is open to airlines across the region and 17 have already chosen the centre for their flight training. In addition to SIA, they include Qatar Airways, Qantas, China Airlines and Japan Airlines.
The sweeping make-over will extend from the business class and first class lounges through to The Private Room, as well as the KrisFlyerGold lounge for top-tier Star Alliance frequent flyers travelling in economy.
