The Shangri-La Group is delighted to announce the launch of their first standalone dining establishment – Shang Social – at Jewel Changi Airport this April.
Shang Social marks the group’s first venture into standalone food and beverage (F&B) outlets outside of a hotel setting and pays tribute to three distinctive Chinese cuisines – Cantonese, Huaiyang and Sichuan.
Diners at the 220-seater Shang Social will be brought on a culinary journey conceptualised by three of Shangri-La’s highly acclaimed master chefs. The extensive menu features traditionaland contemporary interpretations of classic Chinese cuisine while staying true to their authentic flavours and roots. Between the formal dining space, the casual MRKT and Bar, Shang Social is specially designed to cater to everyone and for every dining occasion.
The Shang Social menu is carefully curated with inputs from three of Shangri-La’s highlyacclaimed master chefs, each a master in either Cantonese, Huaiyang, or Sichuan cuisine.
Michelin-starred Cantonese Chef Mok Kit Keung, also the executive Chinese chef at Shangri- La Hotel, Singapore, will have two of his signature dishes – Bamboo Noodles with Dark Soya Sauce and Lard, and Deep-fried Whole Boneless Chicken filled with Fried Glutinous Rice –featured in the Cantonese selection.
Chef Joe Hou, a protégé of Huaiyang master Zhou Xiaoyan and recognised as China’sHuaiyang cuisine global ambassador, will bring his personal Huaiyang favourites to the table. Chef Hou is also the area Chinese executive chef of Jiangnan Wok at Shangri-La Hotel, Nanjing.
Chef Rick Du, executive Chinese chef at Summer Palace, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang, completes the Shang Social culinary journey with his Sichuan specialties.
Jewel Changi Airport (Jewel) and Shiseido have announced the naming rights partnership of the Shiseido Forest Valley; a wondrous 4-storey indoor ‘forest’ which will allow visitors to experience the Japanese appreciation of nature, beauty and art.
Jewel (scheduled to open on 17 April 2019) will have one of the largest indoor collection of plants in Singapore, with about 22,000sqm of space dedicated to landscaping throughout the complex. The Shiseido Forest Valley will complement Jewel’s wide array of retail and F&B activities, allowing visitors to shop and dine amidst a resplendent indoor forest. Visitors can even take a gentle hike up two cobblestoned walking trails, the East and West Trail, punctuated by idyllic cascading waterfalls and mist clouds.
Made up of more than 900 trees and palms and about 60,000 shrubs, the curation of the indoor forest took concerted effort. Before the installation of the Shiseido Forest Valley, trials were first done in a polytunnel (or hoop greenhouse) to simulate the actual in-Jewel temperature, humidity and light levels. Applying these optimal growth conditions eventually resulted in the dynamic forest experience and selection of plants that visitors will see in Jewel.
The 4-storey incline of the Shiseido Forest Valley also influenced the types of flora selected. For example, the shrubs chosen are shade-tolerant and have adapted to space constraints, just as understorey plants have in real forests. Whether dining at spots overlooking the Shiseido Forest Valley or strolling through the trails, visitors to Jewel can expect an awe-inspiring experience when they walk through this climate-controlled space.
Uniqlo Singapore will open its newest store at Jewel Changi in April. This new store which spans over 2,200 sqm will be the second largest Uniqlo in Singapore.
Uniqlo at Jewel will include a dedicated Uniqlo T-shirt (UT) corner, which will showcase the latest UT designs they carry. Shoppers can look forward to an exclusive early launch of their Marvel x Jason Polan UT collection at this new outlet.

A community event space named ST3PS, an indoor garden, more than 10 new shops and restaurants, and weekend evenings filled with fun family activities are what airport visitors can check out when they visit the newly upgraded Terminal 3 Basement 2 (T3 B2) this month.
A popular destination within Changi Airport, T3 B2 is a magnet that attracts more than half of Changi Airport’s meeters and greeters, or about 17 million people, annually. With its plethora of choices for shopping, dining and family activities, this spot has become a favourite with families over the years.
Equipped with an ultra high-definition screen measuring 6 metres wide and 3.5 metres high, the newly revealed dedicated atrium space ST3PS is shaped like a stepped amphitheatre that can accommodate over 200 people. In addition to free daily movie screenings and an array of exciting activities during the school holidays, live sports matches and performances delight visitors every weekend. Aspiring artistes and performing arts groups can also showcase their talents to travellers and airport visitors at this atrium space.
The event space will also feature a full-height green wall, adorned with sparkling lights that shine brightly as visitors walk up the steps. Adjacent to the atrium space is a fun art-themed indoor garden, where visitors can look forward to large-scale sculptural installations in time to come. The entire atrium and garden covers a floor area of 440 square metres, close to the size of a basketball court, and features over 15 varieties of plants.

Tokyu Hands has announced that they will open their newest branch at the upcoming Jewel Changi Airport. This will be the chain’s fourth branch to open in Singapore.

The new Burger & Lobster eatery will be located at Canopy Park, Jewel’s topmost floor, where diners will be treated to spectacular views of the verdant landscaping, and the majestic 40- metre high Rain Vortex, set to be the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.
The London-born dining hotspot will feature a core menu that includes its famed prime burger, fresh Atlantic lobster and original lobster roll alongside a delicious drinks programme catering to travellers, trend-seekers and local residents. New dishes using locally sourced ingredients and inspired by local flavours will also be introduced to the menu on a seasonal basis.
Burger & Lobster has appointed award-wining interior design consultancy Rockett to oversee the design and build of the 81-cover luxury eatery at Jewel. The newest Burger & Lobster restaurant will have a luxurious, contemporary design that infuses the unique mix of lush nature with urban energy, to create a dining experience that promises to enthral and delightdiners. The restaurant’s unique design will feature rich reds, bold marble and beautiful handmade crackle-glazed tiles alongside eye-catching fresh lobster tanks, which can be viewed from every seat in the restaurant.
With further eateries planned to launch across the globe, including the United States and Asia, the expansion follows a ‘better than expected’ year-end period of trading globally.
Jewel is on track to open in the first half of 2019.

Swiss artisanal chocolate brand, Läderach Chocolatier Suisse is among one of the retail tenants confirmed to open their doors in Jewel Changi Airport next year.
Läderach has stood for top-quality, hand-made Swiss chocolate and confectionery specialities since 1962. They are a family company with around 500 employees that is headquartered in Glarus, Switzerland. They manufacture they own cocoa mass in their chocolate factory, which makes them one of the few premium producers to guarantee sustainable quality from the cocoa bean through to the end product.
The Läderach chocolate family encompasses the brands Läderach Chocolatier Suisse and Läderach Professional. The company has two production sites in Switzerland and one in Germany. Their premium products are sold in their 50 or so proprietary chocolate boutiques with points of sale in Switzerland, Germany and other countries, as well as by specialist retailers and high-level restaurants.
Shake Shack’s first restaurant in Singapore will open in Jewel Changi Airport next year, where diners can look forward to signature menu items including the ShackBurger®, Shack-cago Dog®, classic crinkle-cut fries and frozen custard ice cream.

Singapore is getting a new Qantas first class lounge!
Qantas has announced a multi-million dollar investment in a new First Lounge and an expansion of the airline’s existing Business Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport.
With development due to start in April 2019, the Singapore First Lounge will offer seating for 240 customers, a luxurious design and premium a la carte dining with Asian-inspired menus.
The existing Business Lounge, which opened in 2013, will also be expanded. Combined, the First and Business Lounges will offer seating for more than 800 customers.
Qantas will work with Chef Neil Perry and Industrial Designer David Caon in collaboration with Akin Atelier, to create a relaxing, high quality environment for passengers to either start their international journey or transit through Singapore. The design will embody a clear focus on sustainability with choices in materials, lighting interior, layouts and amenities all reflecting the highest local and international design techniques.
Set to open towards the end of 2019, the new First Lounge will be designed to suit the specific needs of transit travellers, with shower facilities, a cocktail bar, open kitchen and menu offerings reflecting the best of Singapore’s vibrant dining culture. It will join Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles as Qantas ports with a dedicated First Lounge.
Singapore is Qantas’ largest hub outside of Australia, carrying more than 20 per cent of the airline’s wide body fleet. Qantas operates over 50 return services in to and out of Changi Airport each week, making it one of the largest foreign airlines to operate out of the Singapore airport. From Singapore, Jetstar Group operates 298 weekly return flights to 26 destinations.
In addition to Qantas’ investment in Singapore, the airline recently announced it will upgrade its lounges in Tokyo, Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart and Tamworth in regional Australia. A new Melbourne Domestic lounge precinct is due to open at the end of October.

A new and bigger Arrival Hall has opened at Changi Airport Terminal 1, increasing the terminal’s floor area by 35% to 8,500m2.
The new hall is part of a larger expansion plan for T1, estimated to boost the terminal’s handling capacity to 24 million passenger movements per annum. The terminal served about 3.2 million passengers in the first quarter of 2018.
With the recent opening of the new arrival zone; travellers will collect their bags and walk down a passageway before entering the public area which used to be the road outside the terminal.
Within the arrival hall is a new garden featuring palm trees of up to 15m in height, a feature pool and a diversity of flora incorporated with dragonfly topiaries and sculptures. This is the airport’s first garden situated in the public area.

Passengers at Changi Airport Terminal 3’s Transit Hall will be welcomed by the refurbished Central Piazza, featuring the airport’s latest feature garden made up of elegant glass dandelion sculptures – the Crystal Garden.
The Crystal Garden is brought to life by tiered garden beds incorporating a curated selection of flowering plants and 12 spheres of artisan dandelion glass sculptures in varying sizes. Inspired by the flora and fauna of the other gardens in Changi Airport, the glass sculptures glow with luminance, creating the illusion that they are floating on pools of water or swaying in a breeze - these offer passengers a captivating and unforgettable experience amidst a garden of lights.
Prominently nestled in the heart of the Central Piazza behind the Crystal Garden is the brand new Louis Vuitton store. As the luxury brand’s first duplex airport store in the world, it is a travel destination itself with its unique architectural elements.

The opening of Terminal 4 in end-October also unveiled a dedicated Cathay Pacific Lounge, one of the airline’s largest lounges outside Hong Kong, with seating for more than 200 customers.
Terminal 4 takes innovation to the next level by offering Cathay Pacific customers an integrated suite of self-service options, reducing queueing time and speeding up the process right through to boarding.

Japan Gourmet Hall SORA is the largest restaurant across the four terminals at Changi Airport and houses six popular Japanese brands all under one roof.
The 7760sqft (720sqm) space seats about 300 diners.
Two out of the six brands at SORA are making its debut in Singapore. They are Tsuruhashi Fugetsu, a chain from Osaka specialising in "okonomiyaki" (Japanese savoury pancakes). And the other is Japoli Kitchen which offers Japanese-Italian fusion dishes.

A key element in enhancing "Sense of Place' at the new Changi Airport Terminal 4 is a first ever collaboration between Changi Airport Group (CAG) and National Heritage Board to create a Peranakan Gallery. It offers travellers the chance to learn about traditional Peranakan culture, with exhibits including a beautifully embroidered Sarong Kebaya, an antique wooden wedding bed and Peranakan porcelain ‘nyonyaware’.
The Peranakan Gallery opens to the public 24-7 and is free for all passengers who have cleared departure immigration.
Located in the Departure Transit area, the Peranakan Gallery is part of T4’s Heritage Zone.
Visitors will be greeted by a doll house model display of Peranakan shophouse architecture.

Offering a sneak peek into the lifestyle and recreation attractions at Jewel, Changi Airport on Wednesday (June 7) shared plans to create lush indoor gardens, mazes, slides and walking trails to complement a 130-room hotel and 300 retail and dining outlets.
The newly-unveiled elements of Canopy Park on level five of Jewel, spanning about 14,000 sqm feature three iconic play attractions – Sky Nets, Canopy Mazes, and Discovery Slides.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the civil contract to Lum Chang Building Contractors Pte. Ltd. to build a new platform at Tanah Merah Station and viaducts for a contract sum of approximately S$325 million. This project is targeted to complete in 2024. Together with the construction of a new platform, existing East-West Line MRT tracks will also be extended to connect to the new four-in-one East Coast Integrated Depot at Changi. This four-in-one depot will house trains from the East-West, Downtown and Thomson-East Coast Lines, as well as buses.
The two middle tracks at Tanah Merah interchange station will be used for trains travelling both bounds between Tanah Merah and Changi Airport stations. Changi Airport Group (CAG) has announced the completion of construction for its new passenger terminal building, Terminal 4 (T4). The next stage of development will be focused on its interior fittings, as well as preparing it for operations as the terminal will open in the second half of the year.
Construction work on the new terminal, located at the southern end of Changi Airport, commenced in early 2014. In addition to the two-storey passenger terminal building, the construction involved the development of two multi-storey car parks providing 1,700 parking spaces, a two-storey taxi holding area, as well as three vehicular and pedestrian bridges spanning across Airport Boulevard to create new channels of access to T4.
A 68-metre high ramp control tower has also been constructed to enhance air traffic controllers’ management of aircraft movements in the apron and taxiways around the terminal. Completed in under three years, the T4 project involved over 4,000 workers at the peak of its construction works.
For the first time at Changi Airport, T4 will see a terminal-wide implementation of fast and seamless travel (FAST) initiatives to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency. The preparatory works in the lead-up to its opening will involve the installation and testing of key airport systems and processes including the new FAST self-service and automated options covering check-in, bag-drop, immigration clearance and boarding.
There will also be training and familiarisation programmes organised for airport staff and partners, to prepare them for operations in the new terminal.

Work has started on Project Jewel, the new retail and lifestyle complex at Changi Airport.
The glass-and-steel complex to be built on the open-air carpark in front of Terminal 1, will be the central hub connecting airport Terminals 1, 2 and 3.
The complex, to open by end 2018, will have five storeys above ground, and five basement levels. It boasts a gross floor area of about 134,000 sq m that will be used for retail, airport operations, attractions and a hotel.
The multi-storey complex will be encased in a distinctive glass and steel dome. It will also feature a waterfall as high as five storeys or 40m within a lush indoor garden. There will be an estimated 270 to 300 retail tenants.
It will connect the three existing terminals and Changi Airport MRT by foot, and add a passenger handling capacity of three million to Changi's current tally of 66 million per year.
There will be facilities dedicated to the fly-cruise and fly-coach passenger segments to make travel experiences smoother.
Terminal 1 will also be expanded to allow more space for the arrival hall, baggage claim areas and taxi bays.
The sweeping make-over will extend from the business class and first class lounges through to The Private Room, as well as the KrisFlyerGold lounge for top-tier Star Alliance frequent flyers travelling in economy.
