The officially-opened Wisma Geylang Serai (WGS) is the community civic and cultural centre in the heart of Geylang Serai precinct. It is a multi-agency development that celebrates the heritage of Geylang Serai communities and encourages social interactions and community bonding among different communities of all ages and races.
It houses the Geylang Serai Community Club, the South East Community Development Council, the Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery Family Service and Child Care Centre, Senior Care Centre, and cultural arts group and social/community-related facilities.
Within WGS, there are public spaces, community plaza and a comprehensive pedestrian network that will enhance accessibility and connectivity to other developments in the precinct, bringing the wide range of facilities and services in WGS to the community. This development is a collaboration between the People’s Association, Ministry of Social and Family Development, Ministry of Health, National Arts Council, National Heritage Board and Ministry of National Development.
Geylang Serai was the origin of the Malay Settlement back in pre-modern Singapore. The word ‘Wisma’ can be translated as a building, complex or house. Wisma Geylang Serai was hence named to reflect the nature and functions of the civic centre.
The development’s double-pitched roof is influenced by traditional Malay houses and complements the adjacent Geylang Serai Market. At the same time, the design demonstrates a contemporary feel in its spatial planning, drawing inspiration from the “serai” plant to “ketupat” and “serambi” on stilts. It weaves and integrates multi-functional spaces and facilities into a cohesive overall design. This winning design amplifies the distinctive identity of Geylang Serai and strengthen its urban character.
The Monarchy Cocktail Bar & Ultra Lounge at 56 / 58 Tras Street offer a long-awaited, permanent and spiritual home for the wildly popular Monarchy nights that were acclaimed for playing host to both Royalty and celebrities alike on the rooftop of OUE Bayfront. The Monarchy is the brainchild of nightlife veterans, Robbie Hoyes-Cock, the CEO & Founder of the world's most glamourous Formula 1 weekend after-parties The Podium Lounge; and Steve Yallop, former Executive Director of Pangaea at Marina Bay Sands, who have been organising star-studded high society club nights in Singapore since 2005.
Set in a heritage shophouse spread over 3,600 square feet in the heart of the CBD, this quintessentially British cocktail bar exudes understated luxury and bears a distinctly regal theme, celebrating the Royal Houses of Normandy to Lancaster and Tudors to the Windsors.
Helmed by General Manager Rob Scott, former Group Beverage Director of Burnt Ends, Meatsmith & Rogue Trader, The Monarchy offers a carefully curated menu of timeless cocktails through the ages, and will introduce a new cocktail list quarterly, enabling guests to take multiple journeys through the history of Great Britain's most popular tastes and tipples of the day.
The opening cocktail list “Cool Britannia” is named in celebration of the modern, outward-facing Britain of the 1990s and the period of increased pride in the giddy cultural fantasia of the United Kingdom – the name itself a pun on the title of one of Britain's most patriotic songs, ''Rule Brittania''.
In a tip of the hat to Britain’s constitutional monarchy, guests enter the premises through a front door that is identical to the iconic home of the British Prime Minister, 10 Downing Street.
On weekends and eve of public holidays from 10pm, as the night builds up and the lights go down, the music starts pulsing and The Monarchy’s dazzling ultra lounge space comes alive as the entire venue transforms into one club. A hidden door at the end of the 8 metre long cocktail bar swings open to reveal a dark and intimate boudoir lined with leather Chesterfields and dancing platforms, where guests can party with the best house music DJs and live celebrity acts.
The 7 VIP tables named after British icons: Sir Winston Churchill, Dame Helen Mirren, Audrey Heburn, Amy Winehouse, George Michael, John Lennon and Hugh Grant; provide a home-away-from-home for those who crave a more sophisticated and private, late-night experience.
The Monarchy has brought together what is possibly the best bar team in Singapore, bringing unprecedented experience from many of the island's most acclaimed venues: 28 HongKong St, Employees Only, 1880, Lulu's, Pangaea and The Cufflink Club to name a few.
The Royal Jesters look forward to entertaining you at The Monarchy soon. God Save The Queen!

Hairy Canary will be offering a selection of beers, wines, and craft cocktails developed in conjunction with Head Bartender Lexis Tan, winner of the Gin Jubilee prize in 2016, as well as a dynamic menu of gastro bites and bar snacks. These four main birdcages surround the dance floor and are flanked by a statement three-meter wide DJ booth. Connected LED screens, wrapping around the entirety of the DJ booth and the 16 VIP tables clearly define the dance floor.
A Dom Perignon VIP Lounge Booth – the first of its kind in the region – will illuminate the opposite end of the club, using its iconic green bottle display. To the right of the booth sits an eleven-meter long bar, positioned directly in front of the dancefloor.
With audio and visual facilities custom-built for the site, AVRY will also be state-of- the-art in every sense. On the audio front, Void Acoustics, who have set up sound systems everywhere from Eden (Ibiza) to Omni (Taipei), will be installing their ground-breaking Air Tri Motion series in the main room. Located directly over the dance floor, Air Motion provides huge sonic impact as well as being a significant visual attraction. Boasting a truly innovative clubbing experience, AVRY will become the first club in South-East Asia to host the formidable set up.

In operation since 2004, Bar Rouge is one of the most famous clubs in Shanghai, A must-visit for out-of-towners sampling the high end of Shanghai nightlife. You can often use the password "Miss Rouge" to dodge the cover fee before midnight. Hopefully that will work the same for here in Singapore.
The much-anticipated 1880 has announced its official opening for end-September 2017. The born-in-Singapore members’ club hopes to inspire conversations that impact society in a positive way. It does this by creating a diverse community of members who represent the collective brains of creativity, drive and passion.
Its home will occupy the third floor of the city’s latest waterfront lifestyle destination, Quayside@Robertson Quay, situated in the eponymous enclave along the Singapore River.
1880 is named for the era that Robertson Quay was built. It is the antidote to the traditional members’ club, shunning homogeneity, while championing diversity, ingenuity and global citizenry. The four pillars of the club are membership, design, events and hospitality.
Further setting it apart is its unique formula of combining a social club and co-working space. The latter is named Bardo, the Tibetan word for “an intermediate state”, implying a clean slate and clarity of mind free of external influence. The intent is to blur the line between work and life – perhaps even redefine the somewhat antiquated notion of work- life balance – by seamlessly integrating both concepts within 1880.
In particular, 1880 is designed to be the golf course for women, embracing their lifestyles. It is intended that the club eventually be replicated in major cities across Asia. In doing so, it will offer women who travel extensively for work and play an inspiring space to drop in to. While there, they might have the opportunity to meet like-minded people through an event, or even catch a film about social justice.
1880's design is conceptualised by Timothy Oulton Studio and includes an outdoor dining deck, members’ lounge, dining room, spa, grooming facilities, café, bar, cinema and library.
On one hand, members can go to the club and find a space to decompress and have fun. On the other hand, they can use it to expand their social and business network.

Having been recognized for its culinary repertoire since appearing on the local gastronomic scene in 2000, Senso is adding in new flavour to the Club Street bar scene with The S bar.
The 30-seater bar immortalizes the crucial period in Italy that gave way to the La Dolce Vita era, “the sweet life”, between the 1950s to 1960s – a space created for the folks in the current 21st century to witness and pay homage to the strong tradition of Italian society.
Capturing the timeless glamour of Italy, The S bar preserves the personalities that rendered the fifties a period of great charm by using the nostalgic monochrome palette across the space. Walls adorned in fine Ostrich upholstery with antique black mirrors ostensibly evoke one’s wistful affection for the period of the past. Coupled with a lively mix of vibrant red sofas, the entire bar portrays the diametric contrast between the old rural way of life and the new modernising Italy during the period.
Guests can relish the taste of the classic or handcrafted cocktails to artisanal spirits. Available in the menu are meticulously crafted cocktails inspired by the walks of life in Italy. The classic Aperol Spritz, with its Aperol and Prosecco over ice and a splash of Club Soda in perfect proportions, is an essential Italian ritual for warm Summer afternoons. Negroni is another classic with Campari as its base where the aperitif’s bitter yet fruity characteristic is mixed well with Gin and Martini Rosso. Romantico, on the other hand, is an exceptional adulteration to the pristine smooth Belvedere Vodka mixed with Lime Cordial, Peach purée and Cranberry juice offering a calming sensation amidst vague sweetness in every sip with its Thyme finish.
Accompanied by gourmet bar bites, guests can expect a tease of taste buds with The S bar’s La Plachetta Platter lining up delectable cold cuts such as Salami, Mortadella and Bresaola with mature Cheeses from Fontina and Taleggio to Truffled Robiola among others. Fresh Oysters of Normandy are also available to tingle your palette for more wines and cocktails. Where most wine lovers agree that the vocabulary of oyster flavours overlaps with that of wine: “crisp,” “buttery,” and “flinty”, they can find both fine wines and fine oysters at one single place.
Caché, which means ‘hidden’ in French, is conceptualised based on its name. Concealed behind a camouflaged wall, this industrial-chic bar adorned with copper pipes is tucked away at the end of Izy. Singapore’s first Latin American cocktail den and newest must-visit drinking hole Vasco has opened on Hong Kong Street.
A devilishly sultry cocktail den beckons, in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District. This latest addition to the bar circuit is a brazen celebration of the lust for life that is Latin culture: vibrant, sultry, colourful and spirited, reflected in Vasco’s dashing ambience of killer cocktails, romantic hospitality and well executed bar bites freshly made in the visible open kitchen.
Brought to you by the talent behind The Cufflink Club The Cufflink Club, one of the world’s top ten high volume cocktail bars (Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards 2014, Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar), this is owner-founder Joel Fraser’s second outpost: a rarity in the Singapore cocktail scene. Fraser’s travels to Latin America, including a trip to Rio de Janeiro in 2014 for the FIFA World Cup, inspired him to create Vasco and bring his appreciation for Latin culture to life; an appreciation shared by Vasco partners Christian Hartmann and Andrew Walsh who also felt strongly that the South American scene was missing in Singapore.
Helming the kitchen is Executive Chef and Vasco partner Andrew Walsh, previously Executive Chef of stellar establishments Esquina and The Study. No stranger to bustling environments with top-notch food, Walsh, who is also partnering up with Fraser on a new soon-to-be-announced restaurant concept, has conceptualised a concise menu hefty with fresh ingredients and bold in flavour; making the food at Vasco a crowd-puller in itself.
Rounding up this team of some of the best in the business is Head Chef Jennifer Lee, founder of Sarnies café on Telok Ayer Street. As one of the few female head chefs in Singapore now, Lee, of Australian-Chinese descent, has worked in restaurants, bakeries and cafes all her life, and had been in Mexico City cooking and reviewing restaurants for a year prior to Vasco.
Begin the evening’s revelry with their choice of signature cocktails and Latin classics. Cachaça, Mezcal, Pisco, Rum and Tequila boldly headline the playful cocktail list here, including The Old Man & The Sea, Girl From Ipanema, Cusco Puta, Mexico ’70 and Del Monte Cartel. Making for a dangerous proposition of a decadent night out is the food, which presents a heady pleasure of more senses: try the El Cubano Sandwich, a healthy portion of pig, pickle and cheese, as well as the authentic empanadas and Peruvian inspired ceviche.
The 1,600 sq ft space with 56 seats is designed for a night of serious fun, courtesy of both Fraser and Hartmann.Expect nothing less than a lively mix of Latin beats on the stereo complete with Bossanova funk and tunes from the likes of Buena Vista Social Club to bring out the full Vasco experience.
