25 out of the 29 bus services that currently operate from the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange will operate from the Woodlands ITH following its opening. The remaining four - 925/925M, 950, 961/961M and 965 - will continue to operate from the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange.

Crossing the Straits of Johor via a 25m-high bridge from Woodlands North Station (LRT) in Singapore to the Bukit Chagar Station in JB, the Johor Bahru – Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link will help to ease Causeway congestion, improve connectivity, foster people-to-people ties and generate shared economic and social benefits. The RTS Link will be a standalone Light Rail Transit (LRT) System with the capacity to serve up to 10,000 commuters during peak periods, for every hour and in each direction.
To facilitate a seamless travelling experience, there will be co-located Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities. Passengers travelling in either direction will clear both Singapore and Malaysia authorities at the point of departure, and need not go through immigration clearance again at the point of arrival.
The RTS Link is a 4km rail shuttle service between the Singapore terminus at Woodlands North station and the Malaysia terminus at Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru. It has a large capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Passengers will enjoy a fast and seamless experience travelling between Singapore and Johor Bahru on the RTS Link, and a journey time of about five minutes between the two stations. Furthermore, the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities of Singapore and Malaysia will be co-located at Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar stations, which means that passengers only need to clear the immigration authorities once, i.e. at their point of departure. When the RTS Link opens for service at the end of 2026, it will be a game changer that will significantly improve connectivity between Singapore and Johor Bahru and ease congestion along the Causeway.
The RTS Link Woodlands North Station will be constructed underground at a maximum depth of 28 metres. There will be three stories, with two basement levels and an underground linkway to the CIQ building. The RTS Link Woodlands North Station and CIQ building are approximately 10 times the size of a typical MRT station. These facilities will be adjacent to Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) Woodlands North MRT station and be seamlessly connected via an underground concourse. The tunnels will be connected to the viaduct that crosses the Straits of Johor at a height of 25 metres.
The 43km Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) is Singapore’s sixth MRT line, adding 32 new stations to the existing rail network, with seven interchange stations linking the TEL to all five existing MRT lines. TEL will open in stages from end of January 2020, starting with the opening of 3 stations which are Woodlands North Station, Woodlands Station and Woodlands South Station. When fully operational by 2024, the TEL is expected to serve approximately 500,000 commuters daily in the initial years, with the figure rising to about one million commuters in the longer term.
Besides enhancing connectivity between the north, central and eastern parts of Singapore, the TEL will strengthen the resilience of the nation's rail network by providing alternative travel routes for commuters on other lines.
The TEL1 comprises one depot at Mandai and three stations, including an interchange station at Woodlands that links to the North-South Line (NSL), providing commuters in Woodlands greater accessibility and shortening their travelling time. Woodlands Station is also equipped with a Civil Defence shelter.
Passengers can look forward to new five-door, four-car trains for TEL. Trains will be running along TEL1 stations from Woodlands North to Woodlands South at frequencies of 10 minutes during peak hours and 15 minutes during off-peak hours, at the commencement of passenger service for TEL1. As ridership on TEL1 increases, the frequencies for both peak and off-peak hours will be reviewed and adjusted.
The second stage of the TEL comprises six stations from Springleaf to Caldecott, with two interchange stations at Bright Hill and Caldecott. Bright Hill station will link to the future Cross Island Line, while Caldecott station will link to the existing Circle Line.
The new Tuas Bus Terminal, located along Tuas West Drive is integrated with Tuas MRT Depot, sitting atop the depot building for more productive use of land, and has access ramps for buses leading to Tuas West Drive and Tuas Link 4.
This new terminal is part of LTA’s ongoing efforts to upgrade our bus infrastructure to better serve the needs of commuters. These efforts include constructing new bus interchanges, upgrading existing ones, as well as refurbishing the facilities at older interchanges.
The new Tuas Bus Terminal is equipped with two alighting berths, and one bus-stop style boarding berth to accommodate boarding and alighting activities. It features a priority queue zone and barrier-free toilets to better cater to the needs of the elderly and less mobile. There will also be enhanced facilities for bus captains and staff, including dedicated staff toilets and a staff lounge.
All four bus services currently operating from the existing Tuas Bus Terminal, i.e. Services 192, 193, 247, and 248, will operate from the new Tuas Bus Terminal. With the new terminal, these four bus services will no longer call at Bus Stop 25411 along Tuas West Drive.
In addition to greater convenience for commuters with seamless transfers between the new air-conditioned bus interchange and the Bukit Panjang MRT and LRT stations, commuters using the new Bukit Panjang ITH can expect new features to enhance their overall journey experience. The new ITH will also feature several technological innovations to improve workplace safety, for example, a traffic management system to detect and increase bus captains’ visual awareness of bus movements within the bus parking area.
The Bukit Panjang ITH is the first integrated transport hub operated by SMRT Buses, who has invested significantly to ensure a positive travelling experience for commuters using the new ITH.
The Bukit Panjang ITH will take on a different look and feel, with its design and function planned around three key themes: Commuter Centricity, Workforce Oriented and Community Bonding. Please refer to the Annex for a summary of new features at Bukit Panjang ITH.
One of the few features unique to this hub is that commuters can soon borrow items such as portable USB charger, shopping trolley and an umbrella when they travel through the Bukit Panjang ITH. To borrow the items, commuters need to go to the WeCare Shop located near the bus interchange at the ground level of the connected Hillion Mall, also to provide an identity card (to be scanned) and a contact number. They may keep the items for up to three days, after which SMRT employees will contact them to return the things.
The Bukit Panjang ITH is fully equipped with barrier-free facilities which makes it convenient to take public transport, especially for commuters with mobility issues as well as commuters travelling with young children and prams. For example, graduated kerb edges are installed at all boarding berths to facilitate boarding and alighting of buses by passengers in wheelchairs. Bus berths and lifts have also been braille-equipped for the visually impaired.
Priority queues and accompanying seats will also be demarcated for seniors, less mobile and expectant mothers to rest and wait at, so that they can be accorded priority boarding for their buses.
All new and upcoming ITHs and Bus Interchanges developed from 2014 are also designed with standalone nursing rooms which comes with diaper changing amenities and a wash basin.
The Downtown Line 3 (DTL3) will open on 21 October 2017, making it the longest underground and driverless MRT line in Singapore, surpassing the 35.7km Circle Line (CCL). The completed DTL which will be 42km long will facilitate direct travel from the north-western and eastern areas of the island to the Central Business District (CBD) and Marina Bay areas, providing greater connectivity to residential, industrial and lifestyle enclaves.
DTL1 with six stations from Chinatown to Bugis opened on 22 December 2013 and DTL2 with 12 stations from Bukit Panjang to Rochor opened on 27 December 2015. The DTL3 Extension from Expo to Sungei Bedok, an additional 2.2km, will open in 2024.
The 21-kilometre long DTL3 comprises 16 stations and is the longest stretch of the Downtown Line to be opened. DTL3 includes three interchange stations at MacPherson, Tampines, and Expo. The MacPherson interchange station links DTL3 to the CCL, while the latter two stations connect the line to the East-West Line (EWL), providing commuters greater accessibility to the rest of the island and significantly shortening their travelling time. There are eight Civil Defence shelters on DTL3, namely Geylang Bahru, Bedok North, Bedok Reservoir, Tampines West, Tampines, Tampines East, Upper Changi and Expo.
The first 10 stations from Fort Canning to Bedok North have achieved their Temporary Occupation Permit status while final fitting out works are currently in progress at the last six stations.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the civil contract to Lum Chang Building Contractors Pte. Ltd. to build a new platform at Tanah Merah Station and viaducts for a contract sum of approximately S$325 million. This project is targeted to complete in 2024. Together with the construction of a new platform, existing East-West Line MRT tracks will also be extended to connect to the new four-in-one East Coast Integrated Depot at Changi. This four-in-one depot will house trains from the East-West, Downtown and Thomson-East Coast Lines, as well as buses.
The two middle tracks at Tanah Merah interchange station will be used for trains travelling both bounds between Tanah Merah and Changi Airport stations. With an additional platform, there will be one pair of dedicated tracks for East-West Line and Changi Airport Line respectively, allowing trains of the Changi Airport Line to arrive and depart at Tanah Merah station at shorter intervals as compared to today, thus enabling faster travel to Expo and Changi Airport.
A new bus interchange will be opening in Tampines on Dec 18, offering residents more bus services and improved connectivity. It will also have features that are elderly- and disabled-friendly. Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that the new interchange is part of the authority's efforts to create a more inclusive and family-friendly public transport system.
Connected via a 250m barrier-free sheltered walkway, the new bus interchange will complement the operations at the current Tampines Bus Interchange. In line with the Government's move to improve first-and-last-mile connectivity for public transport, Tampines Concourse Bus Interchange will also have 40 bicycle lots for commuters who cycle there.
