The Shangri-La Group is delighted to announce the launch of their first standalone dining establishment – Shang Social – at Jewel Changi Airport this April.
Shang Social marks the group’s first venture into standalone food and beverage (F&B) outlets outside of a hotel setting and pays tribute to three distinctive Chinese cuisines – Cantonese, Huaiyang and Sichuan.
Diners at the 220-seater Shang Social will be brought on a culinary journey conceptualised by three of Shangri-La’s highly acclaimed master chefs. The extensive menu features traditionaland contemporary interpretations of classic Chinese cuisine while staying true to their authentic flavours and roots. Between the formal dining space, the casual MRKT and Bar, Shang Social is specially designed to cater to everyone and for every dining occasion.
The Shang Social menu is carefully curated with inputs from three of Shangri-La’s highlyacclaimed master chefs, each a master in either Cantonese, Huaiyang, or Sichuan cuisine.
Michelin-starred Cantonese Chef Mok Kit Keung, also the executive Chinese chef at Shangri- La Hotel, Singapore, will have two of his signature dishes – Bamboo Noodles with Dark Soya Sauce and Lard, and Deep-fried Whole Boneless Chicken filled with Fried Glutinous Rice –featured in the Cantonese selection.
Chef Joe Hou, a protégé of Huaiyang master Zhou Xiaoyan and recognised as China’sHuaiyang cuisine global ambassador, will bring his personal Huaiyang favourites to the table. Chef Hou is also the area Chinese executive chef of Jiangnan Wok at Shangri-La Hotel, Nanjing.
Chef Rick Du, executive Chinese chef at Summer Palace, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang, completes the Shang Social culinary journey with his Sichuan specialties.
This co-working space, supported by Enterprise Singapore, will provide an interactive environment for both local and international, cross-disciplinary designers to congregate, exchange ideas and connect with potential partners and talents. It intends to bring together industry players who are relevant to the fashion and design ecosystem such as value chain suppliers like fibre producers and textile manufacturers, beauty & lifestyle service providers such as photographers and make-up artists.
Housed at the top two levels of the newly-opened Design Orchard, The Cocoon Space is designed to provide the community with networking and interaction opportunities, whilst also offering quiet corners and workstations to foster creativity and innovation. The open work area on level two, which includes, adaptable desk spaces at the Gallery, the Co-Lab, the Incubation Room and theatre space - The Cave is thoughtfully designed to cater to a variety of business needs by providing web-meeting and other high-tech facilities.
TCS also caters to special fashion-centric requirements with The Makers Studio which is well equipped with industrial grade sewing machines and by providing a dedicated space which allows designers to exhibit their work. Adjacent to The Makers Studio is a Resource Wall that will feature different types of fabric and materials and a 3D Printer. On the top level, TENCELTM Studio (the event hall) is set against a lush, green outdoor amphitheatre overlooking Orchard Road – a perfect space for designers to launch their collections, or for companies who intend to run workshops or fashion shows.
“The Cocoon Space has been designed with much support from TaFF’s partners; this includes colleagues from Singapore Furniture Industries Council who have provided advisory on suitable furniture and SGTech on tech infrastructure. TCS is indeed a project of shared effort and collaborations”, says Mr Wilson Teo, Vice-President, Executive Committee, TaFF.
In addition, TaFF is working with international partners such as The Mills Fabrica of Hong Kong to provide members of TCS with the use of their state-of-the-art prototyping lab and tech style-focused (intersection of technology and style) workspace in Hong Kong. Such efforts will help TCS’s community to venture into international markets and to provide tangible benefits for those who have plans to take flight beyond the domestic market.
TaFF is also launching a programme called The Bridge Fashion Incubator (TBFI), supported by Enterprise Singapore, which will run at TCS.
TBFI is a 30-week long programme that equips and enables aspiring firms who are keen to launch and/or scale their business in the fashion industry. Applicants may include firms with fashion or accessories collections, fashion technology and textile-related products or solutions. Applicants for the program will be curated by a panel of distinguished business veterans from both the fashion & textile and technology industry. Successful applicants will undergo mentorship in product portfolio development, business model structuring, pitching, and relevant exposure totechnological innovations and sustainability.
Food delivery giant Deliveroo has launched its biggest and most innovative Editions site in Singapore, located at Alice@Mediapolis. The site, called Deliveroo Food Market features 10 kitchens and a 40-seater dine-in space powered by a futuristic fully-automated ordering experience in collaboration with eatsa, a San Francisco-based technology automation company. Famed Japanese discount store Don Quijote has opened its first store in Singapore at Orchard Central.
The double-storey 1,397 sq m discount store is operating with its name as Don Don Donki instead of Don Quijote because a Don Quijote restaurant already exists here in Dempsey Road. The 24-hour store has the same range and eclectic mix of products as its outlets in Japan.
Founded in 1978 by Takao Yasuda, the brand now has over 368 stores in Japan, Hawaii and the United States.
The second Singapore outlet is set to open middle of June 2018 and will be located in Tanjong Pagar.

One of the few features unique to this hub is that commuters can soon borrow items such as portable USB charger, shopping trolley and an umbrella when they travel through the Bukit Panjang ITH. To borrow the items, commuters need to go to the WeCare Shop located near the bus interchange at the ground level of the connected Hillion Mall, also to provide an identity card (to be scanned) and a contact number. They may keep the items for up to three days, after which SMRT employees will contact them to return the things.
The Bukit Panjang ITH is fully equipped with barrier-free facilities which makes it convenient to take public transport, especially for commuters with mobility issues as well as commuters travelling with young children and prams. For example, graduated kerb edges are installed at all boarding berths to facilitate boarding and alighting of buses by passengers in wheelchairs. Bus berths and lifts have also been braille-equipped for the visually impaired.
Priority queues and accompanying seats will also be demarcated for seniors, less mobile and expectant mothers to rest and wait at, so that they can be accorded priority boarding for their buses.
All new and upcoming ITHs and Bus Interchanges developed from 2014 are also designed with standalone nursing rooms which comes with diaper changing amenities and a wash basin.

The oldest of three malls in Tampines central, this facelift project will be the mall's first major renovation since it opened in 1995.
The 216,055 sqft mall will have 218 shop units. One of its anchor tenants is lifestyle grocer Mahota Market. It will take up about a third of Basement 1 and will feature a booth for freshly bought items to be cooked into meals such as steaks and pastas.
Another anchor tenant, cinema operator Filmgarde will introduce a new “3D immersive sound technology” across its six new movie halls, which will seat nearly 1,000 people in all.

The largest mall in Northern Singapore will open to shoppers in the fourth quarter this year. Developed by Frasers Centrepoint Singapore, the mall is part of Northpoint City, the largest integrated development in the North, housing over 400 retail and dining outlets across two retail wings.
When completed, the 1.33 million square feet Northpoint City will also include the 920-unit North Park Residences, community spaces, an air-conditioned bus interchange and an underground retail link with direct access to Yishun MRT Station.
Northpoint City is expected to serve as a lifestyle, recreation and integrated transportation hub for over half a million residents from Singapore’s northern region.
With a community club, a rooftop community garden, a public library, a town plaza which is the size of 10 basketball courts and a line-up of lifestyle and retail offerings curated to serve the community, Northpoint City will be the key venue of community interaction and activities.
The Nee Soon Central Community Club will move into the South Wing of the mall by 2018 and will be the first Community Club in Singapore to be housed in a shopping mall. The Yishun Public Library will also be re-opening in the mall by the first quarter of next year.
Pursuant to the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Community and Sports Facilities Scheme (CSFS)1, Frasers Centrepoint Singapore created additional space for community-focused services. Such community-centric tenants include The RICE Company, a performing arts non-profit organisation, as well as a childcare centre The Orange Academy.
Shoppers can expect a new, exciting and vibrant shopping experience at both the North and South wings, which will form the mall at Northpoint City. With the expected completion of its Asset Enhancement Initiative (AEI) in September 2017, Northpoint Shopping Centre will be integrated into Northpoint City and renamed as its North Wing.
In addition to a diverse range of retail offerings, the North Wing will feature over 50 food and beverage concepts, including family favourites Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Tenderfresh. Drawn by the potential and scale of Northpoint City, the mall is on track to having close to 90% of its retail space leased when it opens in the fourth quarter of this year. Harvey Norman will move into a brand-new 34,000 square feet store to offer even more selections for its shoppers, while retail stalwart FairPrice will open a supermarket spanning 33,000 square feet. This will be the second supermarket in Northpoint City in addition to the existing Cold Storage supermarket, giving even more options for shoppers.
Linking the two wings of Northpoint City’s retail space will be The Courtyard at Basement 1. It will be a community space designed to allow natural light into the mall, while offering an unobstructed view of shopfronts in that area.
In November 2017, Lumine from Japan will open Lumine Singapore which will become the company’s first overseas operation. Lumine will bring its fashion and retail experience from Japan to Singapore; a global city and one of the most multi-cultural places in South East Asia.
