The gallery connects broad audiences to high-quality art by diverse talents that speaks to the heart and tells the story of an undiscovered generation of aspiring artists that will have the art world aching for more. Diminishing aristocratic traditions and providing transparency in an art world that is at times daunting, Cuturi Gallery presents an inclusive and democratised art ecosystem which fosters greater collaboration, understanding and appreciation of art amongst artists, collectors and the industry at large.

The founder of Cuturi Gallery, Kevin Troyano Cuturi is an art advocate with an unconventional background that belies his passion for the art world and devotion to nurturing Singapore’s art scene. Before launching the gallery, Kevin was an entrepreneur who had previously also worked at Amazon. Unfettered by conventions of the traditional art gallery model, the ‘art outsider’ unites his love for art with a disruptive entrepreneurial passion to challenge norms and bring fresh perspectives to invigorate the industry.
To do this, he is leading the way towards greater pricing transparency and supporting under-represented and aspiring artists to balance creative freedom with works that sell to ensure the survival of Singapore’s next generation artists.

The Ministry of National Development (MND) and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) have recently announced the award of the design consultancy tender for the redevelopment of The Float @ Marina Bay. The Float @ Marina Bay will be renamed as NS Square.
The completed space will be a distinctive, attractive and flexible events venue. NS Square will also feature an NS-themed gallery, community sports facilities and a new public waterfront promenade.
A new permanent stage deck will replace the existing floating platform, with a new grandstand of increased seating capacity of around 30,000 seats. The tiered curved seating stacks will wrap around the stage to provide an uninterrupted line-of-sight to the stage from all angles as well as bring spectators closer to the 'action'. In addition to hosting the National Day Parade, the space can also be configured for events of different scales and types, such as concerts, performances, sporting activities and competitions.
When not in use for events, the stage area will be a multi-purpose space for community activities. The public can also enjoy a new waterfront promenade around the stage that will form part of the continuous loop around Marina Bay and improve pedestrian connectivity in the area. This lower promenade area will be opened all year round; supporting F&B and retail options are also being considered within the new development.
To leverage the site's unique waterfront location, the development will feature a water sports facility to support activities such as dragon boating, canoeing and kayaking. This facility, part of a larger network of water sports facilities around Marina Reservoir, will provide the community with greater access to water-based recreational options in central Singapore. There will also be a swimming pool and water play areas for the public to enjoy.
With a mix of open and enclosed spaces, the planned NS-themed Gallery will showcase our nation's defence and NS story, and acknowledge the contributions of our national servicemen past and present. Stories of servicemen from the Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team will be told through various multimedia platforms and hardware displays.

Japanese streetwear brand Íxi:z, makes a comeback 40 years in the making.
INDIVIDUALLY BASIC – a tagline not seen in Singapore since the early 1980s, where it was closely affiliated with Japanese streetwear brand Íxi: z (pronounced ick-sees). Four decades on, Íxi:z is making an unprecedented comeback with a retail store now open at Mandarin Gallery, and an official launch to be announced in early 2020.
Those who grew up in the 80s will fondly remember Íxi:z as an iconic brand which once encompassed everything from bomber jackets to wallets and pencil cases.Revitalizing a brand and reshaping it for the consumers of today is no small task. But as the saying goes, class never goes out of style, and by keeping the familiar elements of the brand intact, the team behind Íxi:z are confident it will once again capture the imagination of a whole new generation of streetwear enthusiasts. Manufactured in Japan to ensure quality, Íxi:z prides itself on a bold, measured approach to high-end streetwear. Understated, minimalist, and highly individualistic, their core values still fit neatly in today’s world 40 years after their inception.

National Gallery Singapore was established in 2015 as a leading visual arts institution overseeing the world’s largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian modern and contemporary art. Guided by its curatorial vision to present the art histories of Singapore and Southeast Asia; reflexively (re)write the art histories of Singapore and Southeast Asia; and examine these art histories in relation to the global history of art, the Gallery has developed a significant collection of artists’ archives and a reference library focusing on Singapore and Southeast Asian art.
The Gallery’s Rotunda, located at the heart of the UOB Southeast Asia Gallery (Level 3, Supreme Court Wing), is a site of historical importance. During the building’s former life as the Supreme Court of Singapore, the Rotunda served as the Law Library. Housed in this historical space, the Rotunda Library & Archive extends the memory of this site while serving a new function as a research hub for the study of art history in Southeast Asia.
The Rotunda Library & Archive aims to be a leading library housing one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of Singapore and Southeast Asian art-historical resources from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
Their collection currently holds over 20,000 physical and digital items, including rare publications, exhibition catalogues, ephemera and digital archives, made possible through generous donations, publication exchanges with various art institutions in the region, and partnerships with the estates of Southeast Asian modern art pioneers, such as Georgette Chen and Lim Hak Tai (Singapore), S. Sudjojono (Indonesia) and Kalaw Ledesma Foundation (the Philippines).
Most archival acquisitions are conducted through loans or donations from the archives’ owners (artists, artists’ families, estates and art communities). The Library & Archive preserves the donated physical archives and digitises loaned archives.
A large selection of materials in their Library & Archive collection is searchable here (You will be redirected to their Collections Search Portal). Due to copyright restrictions and levels of permission from the archive owners, some items are only available for viewing onsite. You can view these items in the Collections Search Portal with our digital viewing facility at the Gallery’s Rotunda Library & Archive.

St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI) has opened a new heritage gallery, in commemoration of Singapore's bicentennial year and the Tercentenary1 of the Founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools – St. John Baptist de La Salle. Named Missio 1852, the gallery showcases 167 years of Josephian history and Lasallian heritage, tradition and community in Singapore. This project is supported by the National Heritage Board and the Singapore Bicentennial Office.
Founded by the De La Salle Brothers in 1852, St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI) is an independent Catholic school, whose mission is to nurture students to learn how to learn and to learn how to live, so that they can be empowered to grow into men and women of integrity and men and women for others. For over 167 years, SJI has nurtured thousands of men and women who have served the society locally and globally. Missio 1852 celebrates the contributions and achievements of the school and of these alumni who have served the society in different ways throughout the century.
The highlights of Missio 1852 include:
-
Profiles of distinguished Josephians – Thousands of illustrious Josephians have graduated from the gates and halls of SJI since 1852. Amongst them include Former 7th President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, DPM Teo Chee Hean, Mr Philip Yeo, Prof Leo Tan Wee Hin, Prof Jeremy Monteiro, Justice Chan Seng Onn, whose profiles are featured in Missio 1852.
-
The Brothers’ Logbook – The La Salle Brothers meticulously kept annual logbooks such as these, detailing notable events like inter-school competitions, important visitors to the school, spiritual bouquets and civics group meetings. It was the practice for the Brother Director to keep a diary/logbook to record key events throughout the school year, to help him when he prepares the annual report to be sent to Rome.
-
The Founder’s Banner – As part of the school’s emphasis on rituals and symbolism, this Founder’s banner was frequently used in events like the celebration of the apparition ofour Lady of Fatimah in the 1950s. Out of the traditional three banners used, only this one remains. These banners were originally stored away in a camphor wood chest in the Brothers’ Quarters.
-
The Grandfather Clock that has survived the Japanese Occupation – This clock once stood on the verandah of the Brothers' House and called all therein to prayers and class. During WWII, shrapnel damaged the clock and the marks have been preserved in its restoration. Holes on both sides indicated where shrapnel entered the clock, hit the back of the pendulum and exited on the opposite side.
Missio 1852 is open to SJI students and staff members during school hours during term time. Visit www.sji.edu.sg for details.

Featured in the listing picture here is a piece from artist Liu Yujun 刘玉å›.
In Liu Yujun's painting series entitled Unidentified Liquid, he has created paintings of Chinese beautiful women. Liu Yujun carefully includes images of blue liquid in a various form in his works. The images of the blue liquid seems to be mysterious and ambiguous as it has no connection with the images of beautiful women. The blue liquid symbolises a sense of insecurity.

Embracing Orchard Road’s heritage as one of the original Straits Chinese enclaves in Singapore (circa 1800s), The Peranakan Gallery at Claymore Connect brings to life a rich tapestry of traditions that were once prevalent in the district — long before Orchard Road gained fame as the island’s most-visited tourist destination.
This newly-launched Place of Interest is a must-visit experience depicting the timeline and evolution of Straits Chinese culture in Singapore and South East Asia. Visually immersive and enriching, The Peranakan Gallery promises to be the Orchard precinct’s eminent ode to authentic Peranakan culture.

The officially-opened Wisma Geylang Serai (WGS) is the community civic and cultural centre in the heart of Geylang Serai precinct. It is a multi-agency development that celebrates the heritage of Geylang Serai communities and encourages social interactions and community bonding among different communities of all ages and races.
It houses the Geylang Serai Community Club, the South East Community Development Council, the Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery Family Service and Child Care Centre, Senior Care Centre, and cultural arts group and social/community-related facilities.
Within WGS, there are public spaces, community plaza and a comprehensive pedestrian network that will enhance accessibility and connectivity to other developments in the precinct, bringing the wide range of facilities and services in WGS to the community. This development is a collaboration between the People’s Association, Ministry of Social and Family Development, Ministry of Health, National Arts Council, National Heritage Board and Ministry of National Development.
Geylang Serai was the origin of the Malay Settlement back in pre-modern Singapore. The word ‘Wisma’ can be translated as a building, complex or house. Wisma Geylang Serai was hence named to reflect the nature and functions of the civic centre.
The development’s double-pitched roof is influenced by traditional Malay houses and complements the adjacent Geylang Serai Market. At the same time, the design demonstrates a contemporary feel in its spatial planning, drawing inspiration from the “serai” plant to “ketupat” and “serambi” on stilts. It weaves and integrates multi-functional spaces and facilities into a cohesive overall design. This winning design amplifies the distinctive identity of Geylang Serai and strengthen its urban character.

Roche Bobois, the French worldwide leading brand in design and distribution of high-end furniture has proudly announced the grand opening of its Singapore showroom with a brand-new design concept. The new showroom spans over 5,300 square-feet and features an expansive floor-to-ceiling window to frame the beautiful selection of Roche Bobois’s best collections in a dynamic space; this elegant showroom opening also marks another milestone in the brand's significant expansion in the Asia-Pacific region.
Located at ground level of Boon Siew Building along Bukit Timah Road, the Roche Bobois Singapore Showroom possesses a wide store front to entice passers-by to peek into its luxe interior, which from a distance resembles a jewel box.
The new showroom of Singapore enjoys an incredibly large window that brings visibility and light to the showroom. The focus is indeed to highlight that advantage, and thanks to a mirror illusion, they have created a double exposure that makes the showroom look bigger. Inspiration has been found in the green space in the surroundings. The illusion of an outdoor space within the showroom has been created, giving the impression that indoor and outdoor spaces are a single and same place. The light wood flooring is chosen to go with that peaceful indoor garden ambiance and highlight the gorgeous green wall. While the geometric indoor partition creates an open space, the dark walls disappear to leave the eye attracted by the light, creating depth in the showroom.
Roche Bobois is a ‘story of people’, a ‘family saga’ which is still continuing with descendants of the founders acting as today’scompany directors. It all began with the fateful meeting of two families, the Roches, a family from France with a successful family furniture business since the 1800s, and the Chouchans, immigrants from Russia who in 1950 opened their own furniture showroom in Paris called ‘Au Beau Bois’ (‘beautiful wood’) - a brand name which would later evolve into ‘Bobois’.
Together, they formed a bond with a mission to offer customers high-quality and innovative designs relevant to the time. By theearly 60’s, they had already designed their first collection together. The first Roche Bobois showroom, designed by the visionary architect and designer Pierre Paulin, was opened at the same time on the Boulevard Saint-Germain.
Today, Roche Bobois has more than 265 showrooms in over 55 countries, a true mark of its ambitious, accelerated programme of international growth. After 17 new stores opened in 2017, this growth has continued in 2018 in vibrant cities such as Hanoï, Washington, Tokyo and San Diego among others.
With a growing presence all over the world, Roche Bobois embodies the full diversity of French design. Thanks to its long-established network of European manufacturers and fruitful relationships with talented designers (such as Marcel Wanders, Kenzo Takada, Ora Ito among others) and also with prestigious fashion houses (e.g. Jean Paul Gaultier, Missoni Home), the brand has risen to the challenge of achieving an international presence by offering every client a personalised approach to home design and decor.

The revamped Sustainable Singapore Gallery at Marina Barrage presents an overview of Singapore’s commitment to sustainable development. While there are exhibits that chart the milestones which brought about the high quality living environment Singaporeans enjoy today, the focus in many parts of the Gallery is on the challenges ahead and the steps people in Singapore need to take together as a nation to keep the country smart and green.

Richard Orlinski is the best-selling French contemporary artist in the world. The newly-opened Richard Orlinski Gallery at Marina Bay Sands is a pop art concept store where you can find his statement art pieces.
Richard Orlinski's sculptures are inspired by the « Born Wild » concept and are a reflection of a profound contemplation on animal instincts and human nature. His style is modern and never gives way to trash, extravagance or passing trends.
His leitmotiv is to make art accessible to the greatest number of people possible. While his work is exhibited in more than 90 galleries across the globe, he doesn’t hesitate to break codes by exposing for free and in the open-air in places such as the French Alps or cities like Paris or Cannes. He also enjoys displaying his work in atypical places and meeting with his fans.
Curious by nature and eager to express his creativity through other disciplines he also has a passion for music, cinema and theater. His electro-pop singles have been on top of the charts in France as well as abroad.
His autobiography has just been published by the number one French publishing company Michel Lafon.

Shiseido Group’s high prestige brand “Clé de Peau Beauté” is excited to announce the opening of its first free-standing boutique in Singapore.
Located in the heart of Orchard Road – at Mandarin Gallery, the 1,012 square ft boutique features a concept and design that is the first of its kind in the world.
The store concept was conceived and inspired by the “Limitless Radiance” that every woman can unlock with Clé de Peau Beauté’s products and services. ‘Limitless Radiance’ is exemplified from the facade with specially-crafted architectural lighting that gives the storefront (facing Orchard Road) dimension akin to a multi-faceted jewel.
Also unique to the store, “Limitless Radiance” is epitomized with 12,000 suspended Swarovski crystals that represent Brilliant Cells exquisitely reflecting light from within.
In line with the brand’s mission – to provide service that is “Beyond Expectations”, areas within the store are designed with the modern woman’s comfort in mind.
Featured areas include:
â— A warm, welcoming entrance to a product “Degustation Area”. Similar to the tasting of a chef’s most premium and signature dishes, customers are invited to fill their senses with free and open access to testers. This free area is intended to stimulate curiosity and interest in the products.
â— A place where customers can receive an intimate consultation for top-of-the-line products like Synactif and La Crème, or enjoy the luxurious textures of Clé de Peau Beauté’s makeup away from prying eyes in the Private Zone Area.
â— The world’s first area designated for gift – giving. Present a gift of radiance wrapped with finesse for a lasting impression. Pamper yourself or that someone special.
â— Two facial cabins that inspire quiet relaxation and replenishment. Available only at Clé de Peau Beauté Mandarin Gallery, each service includes an original hand and arm massage to relieve fatigue as it comforts the mind.

The Istana Heritage Gallery, located at the Istana Park along Orchard Road and opposite the Istana, offers visitors the opportunity to understand the historical background of the Istana.
Gazetted in 1992 as a National Monument along with Sri Temasek, the Istana mirrored the development of Singapore in its nationhood through time. The exhibition in the Gallery captures the Istana’s transition from being the Colonial Governor’s House to its current role as the Official Residence of the President.
The Istana Heritage Gallery will provide visitors with a glimpse into the Istana’s rich history through a specially curated range of heritage displays including state artefacts, artworks and collection of state gifts received from foreign dignitaries by our past and present Presidents and Prime Ministers. The Gallery will complement the guided tour programmes at the Istana Open House in providing the public greater access to Istana’s rich heritage. It will also showcase the President’s constitutional, ceremonial and community roles and the Istana’s special place in these aspects of the Singapore story.

ARTS & CULTURE |

An ethical vision with a social conscience. Art must be socially responsible and contribute to our understanding of the world and other people. Originality and difference. The task of the artist is to work hard at perfecting a unique artistic vision.
A belief in truth and beauty. Art must strive for beauty with a strong aesthetic vision. Visionairs Gallery wants to return to the essential values of art and support those artists who accept the founding principles of artistic creation.
Visionairs Gallery also wants to extend the pleasure of creation to the widest possible public, providing education and inspiration through the art we exhibit.
One of our founding principles at Visionairs Gallery is to reach people’s heart and mind through art. We believe that art is not a commodity just for sale
or speculation. Art is creative joy and a medium for thought and reflection.
Visionairs Gallery wants to contribute to the rebirth of a genuine human art that reflects our societies and gives us a sense of our challenging times. The mission statement of Visionairs Gallery can be summarized in three words: humanity, humanism and Human Art. Their aim is to produce a Factory for the 21st Century, taking inspiration from Andy Warhol’s unique gallery/studio of the 1960s, in New York.
They want to create a space open to everyone, where artists and art students, ordinary people and celebrities can meet, mix and inspire each other. Founder Lydie Geoffroy considers herself the spiritual daughter of Peggy Guggenheim, who took real risks for the artists in whom she believed.
Visionairs Gallery wants to be at the center of new artistic movements, driven
by a fresh wind of creativity.

Violet Oon’s unabashed love for and knowledge of the Peranakan culinary delights and culture of Singapore has manifested into cookbooks, Violet Oon Singapore, and, more recently, National Kitchen at the National Gallery.
Peranakans didn’t shy away from colour and were known for their intricate or opulent decorations and you’ll definitely see hints of this philosophy in National Kitchen. Decadent dark panels and mirrored walls are lit up by elegant wall sconces whilst references to the Peranakan way of life are peppered throughout the space. Rattan ceiling fans, distinctive tiles, and typical Singaporean foliage like palm leaves and orchids are just a few of the touches that make National Kitchen special.
The food is an excellent introduction into some of the more famous Peranakan dishes like Sambal Timun Nanas (pineapple and cucumber with chillies, onions and lightly sweet rice vinegar), Kiam Chye Ark Thng (soup of duck with salted mustard greens and a hint of spice chillies), and Buah Keluak Ayam (a stew of tangy chicken and the traditional buah keluak nuts). National Kitchen has also opened its menu’s borders a little, offering other cultural favourites like Eurasian Beef Brisket Semor and Hakka Abacus Beads.

Smoke & Mirrors is a destination rooftop bar atop one of Singapore’s most historically and culturally significant icons. The unblocked panoramic view of the Padang and Marina Bay is reason enough to visit.

Upon entering, one will be floored by the stunning sculptural bar, anchoring the space which is designed to allow for the seamless transition between the indoors and outdoors.

With plenty of woods, copper tones and warm lighting, the bar exudes a magnetic intimacy. The service reflects this persona too; discreet and engaging.
