Wildseed Café at The Alkaff Mansion is an offshoot of the original that opened at The Summerhouse in 2017. This second Wildseed is a floral café offering all-day dining of pastries and cakes created by the accomplished 1-Group Executive Pastry Chef Jasmin Chew, with brunch on weekends.
Alfresco seats in the courtyard, amidst tall leafy trees, some as old as the mansion, imbues the café with outdoorsy vibes.
Wildseed is a social hub: a charming, instagrammably picturesque nexus where friends meet friends, families spend weekend outings, and strollers unwind on an exploration of the hill park.
There’s artisanal coffee by Avanti and a fine selection of teas; even a play area for kids. The café will organise regular family- and pet-friendly activities and events as well as kids’ workshops – it’s the perfect place to luxuriate in nature, and watch the day slowly unfold in the soft dappled sunlight under the shade of grand old trees.
UNA finds a new home on the second level of the newly-relaunched Alkaff Mansion. A rich patina of romance washes over the restaurant, from the lovingly restored ebony-hued timbers of the pitched ceiling and floors; to the gorgeous, contemporary lighting feature showering down like silver and crystal rain; to the extraordinary view like a tropical mirror of the rolling green hills of the Basque country.
The floor plan centres on a spacious dining hall, with 2 private rooms easily created through sliding glass panels if privacy calls. Adjacent to the main hall is the UNA bar and dining porch, where an aperitivo can be sipped while taking in the view before or after dinner.
UNA is a homage to the art of gastronomy and living well. Its Spanish roots are wedded to the dynamic individualism of Basque cuisine, resulting in a menu of Basque-inspired dishes and popular favourites from the former establishment crafted using the best produce sourced locally as well as from the Basque and Spanish regions.
Among the signatures are Fideua De Calamares (squid ink Spanish noodles paella with crispy calamari), Pulpo A La Parrilla Con Papas Arrugadas Y Mojo (tender octopus grilled over a charcoal fired parrilla grill accompanied with baby potatoes and a coriander and paprika sauce).
There is also the rich and comforting Paella De Chorizo Y Habitas (classic family-style paella slow cooked with savoury chorizo, fava beans and aromatic saffron), Paella de Mariscon (classic seafood paella with bomba rice, prawns, clams and mussels, enriched with generous touches of saffron) and the evergreen Cochinillo Asado (Spanish crispy roasted suckling pig).
The desserts present decadent Spanish sweets such as Chocolate & Olives, Arroz con Leche de la Abuela (a fragrant Spanish rice pudding served with sherry grapes and a sherry reduction) and Classic Churros, served with spicy pecan chocolate sauce.
At UNA Bar & Lounge, a selection of tea infusion cocktails complements the food.
Living life with gusto, UNA takes diners into the romantic heart of the Basque.
Nothing manifests Basque vibrance like pintxo culture with its air of hedonistic, after-hours revelry. Located on the ground level of newly-relaunched Alkaff Mansion, TXA Pintxo Bar is the first and only bar in Singapore singularly dedicated to this experience. The letter combination ‘Txa’ is unique to the Basque language, forming the sound ‘cha’ which incidentally occurs in Hokkien to mean ‘noisy’, and in Cuban inspiring the dance cha-cha.
Pintxos (pronounced pin-chos) are small snacks served in bars to accompany drinks; and the bar-hopping culture this engenders is also referred to as pintxos. To eat at TXA is to be immersed in the uninhibited buzz of a pintxo bar in the Basque country. It is loud, fun and authentic.
Drinks include Spanish beers, wines and ciders. At the bar is a selection of signature cocktails based on wine, designed to complement the flavours of the pintxos, such as the Tinto de Pintxos created with red wine, pisco, and sweet vermouth as well as The Mansion created with brandy, Grand Marnier, cherry liqueur, and angostura bitters.
The lure of the pintxo culture really gets under one’s skin at TXA; and a stream of Basque-related activities aims to get people even closer.
Free-wheeling TXA is the vibrant soul of the Basques.
A culture needs a home and a proper theatre. The house on the hill, with its beauty and mantle of history, was ideal. The Alkaff Mansion is today a multi-concept Food & Beverage destination housing the Basque-centred TXA Pintxo Bar and UNA, while also housing all-day floral café Wildseed Café – each distinct and embodying a different character.
Restored and relaunched, Alkaff Mansion has become the centre of Basque culture and lifestyle. The greenery and hills, the visible coastline, echo the Basque homeland; the history and architecture, the centrality of food and social life, further the parallels.
The Alkaff Mansion celebrates, indeed flaunts, all things Basque: capturing its verve and heart; showcasing its produce, cuisine and wine. It does this in truest authenticity through a profound partnership with Basqvium, keeper, curator and tireless advocate of Basque cuisine and culture both in and outside Spain. Hand-in-hand with Basqvium through the shared platform of Basque Culinary Institute, 1-Group unites key facets of the essential Basque to create The Alkaff Mansion.
The deep synergy reflects into the experience in multiple ways, seen and unseen: through the rare Basque wine and spirits served in-house, the exclusive Basque produce and authentic Basque flavours, all the way to the Basque members within the team. The cuisine especially benefits from the inclusion of Basque chefs, Marta Elvira Segalés and Silvana Pascual Romero, into 1-Group’s own Spanish Cuisine Development Team which also comprises 1-Group’s talents such as Head Chef Tom Kung of UNA. Day to day, these key members of this development team also take personal care of kitchen operations at The Alkaff Mansion, so that research and theory becomes real; materialising in plate after plate of Basque cuisine on the plate of The Alkaff Mansion diners.
Seated on its hilltop, the Alkaff Mansion has witnessed the passage of time for a hundred years. This 2-storey Tudor-style building was built in 1918 by a member of the prominent Arab family, the Alkaffs.
In 2005, the Alkaff Mansion was accorded conservation building status by the URA, ensuring its key architectural features would be preserved for posterity. Following a number of years when it was left vacant, the mansion was again restored in 2011 to become an Italian restaurant until 2016. The second makeover cost another S$5 million.

With an emphasis on recreating distinctive Peranakan flavours of old, the concept is a platform for the continuation of a family’s culinary legacy; where guests are invited to rediscover the flavours of a bygone era through recipes inspired by the matriarchs of old.
Helming the restaurant is 28 year-old chef, Chong Jun Xiang. He may not be Peranakan but benefits from the personal mentorship of Desmond Lim and his cousin, Gloria Teo who consults on the menu.
“Peranakan recipes are very personal as they differ from family to family. The recipes are not written out but passed down by taste and word of mouth; from one generation to the next. The cuisine is extremely labour intensive, intricate and precise. A lot of love goes into every process of preparation and cooking.” - Chong Jun Xiang, Head Chef - Indigo Blue Kitchen.

Get ready for the resurgence of The Dragon Chamber, now better than before. Hidden behind a fridge at a Circular Road local coffeeshop (kopitiam), this speakeasy restaurant and bar marks a new partnership between Ebb and Flow Group and Tung Lok Group. The 45-seater is helmed by Ebb and Flow Group Creative Director Norman Hartono and Operations Director Pio Subramaniam, who have spent a great amount of time finding a new location to house The Dragon Chamber. The Dragon Chamber was previously hidden within Lokkee at Plaza Singapura.
"Dragon Chamber is for people who are looking for an adventure around every corner and want to push the boundaries of traditions and Chinese food. We focus on embodying the rebellious spirit of creation rather than just making food that sells," said Norman Hartono, Creative Director of Ebb and Flow Group.
The Dragon Chamber is more than just a Chinese restaurant where guests come to dine and then leave. Right off the bat, it offers an immersive experience; one that’s filled with intrigue. Arrive at the unassuming kopitiam and enter The Dragon Chamber through the glass fridge door; you must decide if you dare to make the perilous journey into an otherworldly realm.
Once you have made the bold decision to do so, you will be plunged into a world that is reminiscent of Chinatown gambling dens and secret society hangouts. The walls are covered with artworks from local and regional artists such as Sabotage, Mister Tucks and Riandy Karuniawan, referencing past and recent Chinese traditions.
The Dragon Chamber is for diners who are looking for a culinary adventure at every turn. Dare to step into a restaurant that pushes the boundaries and traditions of Chinese cuisine. Overseeing the kitchen team is Chef Wong Meng Ooi. The 36 -year-old started his love affair with the culinary arts from an early age, and has over 20 years of experience under his belt.
Slated to open on 1st April at this new location, the “secret society” restaurant will offer access to a 32-seater kopitiam as well as a full-fledged 12-seater bar that opens till late. The kopitiam will serve breakfast and lunch, offering classics such as wanton mee, toast and the aromatic kopi.
A must-try from the kopitiam is the Singaporean classic wanton mee, which comes in two versions, dry or soup. Flavourful minced pork meat is wrapped within silky smooth dumpling skin before being poached to plumpness and served with springy thin noodles. To complete the dish, diners may choose to add on their noodles with char siew or roasted chicken.
Drawing inspiration from the multi-faceted flavours of Asia, the fresh and innovative bar is giving classic concoctions an Asian makeover. The intoxicatingly imaginative oriental cocktails served pay nostalgic homage to traditional ingredients used in Asian cooking such as tea, Chinese five spice and gula melaka. All syrups and infused liqueur are thoughtfully curated and made in house.
Need somewhere quiet and spacious for group gatherings? Rendezvous at their private dining area, which seats 24 guests, or the VVIP area, which holds up to 12 guests.
Tucked along Zion Road is Yujin Izakaya, a lively hang out where one and all are received as friends. Spotting an industrial-chic look, the unassuming modern 50-seater izakaya features a bar that opens to the five-foot way and main street, beckoning with the glow of display fridges showcasing an enticing range of sake. Step past the metal mesh doors at the entrance and you will find yourself being welcomed into a space humming with positive energy.
An open kitchen anchors the room dressed in a palette of black and copper, and this is where chef-owner Freddie Lee fires up a curated repertoire of creative bites that take its inspiration from the traditional Japanese izakaya. The menu spans inspired cold and hot appetisers, smokey grilled vegetable, meat and seafood dishes, beautifully singed skewered items, warming items served in small bowls and light desserts.

Friends and families looking for an escape from the city will certainly delight in this hilltop sanctuary located 100m above sea level at Faber Peak Singapore, where they can relax over Western fare, cocktails and curated beverages.
The restaurant name "Arbora" is an eponym for Latin word "Arbor", which refers to trees. Guests can look forward to a (re)treat at Arbora, which offers an all-day dining menu with 35 selections that includes delectable starters, entrees and desserts created by Executive Chef Kenny Yeo. Arbora's menu caters to all-day casual dining with a selection of Western favourites. Guests can expectsome twists in Chef Kenny’s creations: the Rack of Lamb (S$36++) is served with homemade prune sauce instead of mint jelly, and the Fisherman's Stew (S$42++), a tomato-based seafood broth, includes slow-cooked tender baby abalones that whet the appetite of Asian palates.
Arbora offers a variety of refreshing drinks that will surely spoil the guests with choices. From fresh-pressed juices, craft beers to botanical-inspired cocktails, Arbora is an ideal place to hang out for the health-conscious, as well as craft beer lovers and cocktail connoisseurs.

It all started with a seed and then that was nurtured by their firmly-held belief in celebrating neighbourhoods, that blossomed into a space bourne out of love called Tiong Bahru Bakery on 43 Jalan Merah Saga in Chip Bee Gardens, surrounding the artsy bohemian enclave, Holland Village. After six years in the planning of this long-awaited fourth bakery (really, since the inception of this Singapore-French concept), finally the Home of the Handmade Croissant can embrace the unique culture of the locale and the creative melting pot of individuals that make up this quaint and tight-knitted community.
Sticking closely to homegrown Tiong Bahru Bakery's DNA, they bring fresh breads, viennoiserie and pastries to the people everyday. Expect the full menu of well-loved and familiar all-French butter and flour only treats such as their signature butter croissants which are baked fresh every two hours priced at $3.20 each and the grand list of iced and hot beverage from 8am – 8pm daily at the neighbourhood's doorstep.
Debuted in May 2012 on Eng Hoon Street in charming Tiong Bahru, offering the neighbourhood a range of French pastries and artisanal breads made with the best French flour and butter. As one of the very first French bakeries in Singapore, Tiong Bahru Bakery revolutionised the way locals enjoy breads with topnotch bakes and sparked the French bakery trends. Their croissants have been voted by many as the best in Singapore and the Kouign Amanns are much raved about. All best enjoyed with an aromatic cuppa from the specialty coffee bar by Common Man Coffee Roasters.

Olivia Burton take inspiration from vintage and catwalk trends to create a range of stylish and covetable accessories. Olivia Burton pieces are feminine, fun and collectable.â Its concept store is now open at ION Orchard.
The British accessories brand was founded by best friends and ex-fashion buyers Jemma and Lesa, who met on their first day at the London College of Fashion. They bonded over a love of design, a passion to start their own business and a mutual struggle to find a watch that they wanted to wear.
Lovers of vintage, the pair would trawl through antique markets to find timepieces, but, whilst beautiful, the cogs would often stop and start. After graduation, the girls went on to pursue successful careers in fashion buying, clocking up time at diverse fashion brands such as Topshop, ASOS and Selfridges. All the while, the idea of going it alone was gathering momentum until the day in 2011 when Jemma and Lesa made the leap, quit their jobs and set about creating their own beautiful, unique watches from the kitchen table.
Named after Lesa’s great aunt whose spirited approach and energy was a huge inspiration to the girls, Olivia Burton debuted its first collection in September 2012. Its covetable, collectable styles, which now include a striking jewellery line-up, are inspired by vintage finds and the latest catwalk trends.
Designs are brought to life at the brand’s pretty East London studio, where Jemma and Lesa work closely with their small team to ensure every piece is tweaked to perfection. Think intricate hand-illustrations, beautiful references to nature and must-have colour palettes.â

Two Cognita schools in Singapore – Australian International School (AIS) and Stamford American International School (SAIS) have collaborated and their world-class Early Learning Village boasting a 50,000 sqm campus is now open. Located at Kim Chuan Lane, the innovative new shared campus has been designed specifically for children aged 18 months to six years old and is the first in the world on this scale for Early Years education.
Among the shared facilities between the two schools in the Village are various multifunctional spaces thoughtfully designed with young children in mind, such as a 20-metre swimming pool which adapts to the competencies of the little swimmers – 10 short horizontal lanes for beginners, and four longer lanes lengthwise for more confident swimmers, and an indoor, air-conditioned gymnasium for their acclaimed SMART Steps specialist physical education classes and after-school enrichment.
Inspired by the world-famous Reggio Emilia philosophy incorporating the environment as a third teacher in its architecture, interior design and curriculum, the Village represents a revolutionary step in early childhood education where this age group is the first and only thought. The campus is designed by award-winning Bogle Architects in collaboration with Gary Moore, Professor of Environmental Behavioural studies at Sydney University, and Rosie Long, a Reggio Emilia Early Years Education specialist, to include specific architectural and design elements that elevate the early learning experience.
Each corner of the Village caters to the growing and developing child, with changing discovery spaces attached to every classroom which empower young learners to play to their strengths and interests. Their learning experience also extends beyond the classroom where they can choose from specialty co-curricular activities such as gymnastics, ballet, sports, drama and language-learning, amongst many others.

Changi Airport Group (CAG) has announced the completion of construction for its new passenger terminal building, Terminal 4 (T4). The next stage of development will be focused on its interior fittings, as well as preparing it for operations as the terminal will open in the second half of the year.
Construction work on the new terminal, located at the southern end of Changi Airport, commenced in early 2014. In addition to the two-storey passenger terminal building, the construction involved the development of two multi-storey car parks providing 1,700 parking spaces, a two-storey taxi holding area, as well as three vehicular and pedestrian bridges spanning across Airport Boulevard to create new channels of access to T4.
A 68-metre high ramp control tower has also been constructed to enhance air traffic controllers’ management of aircraft movements in the apron and taxiways around the terminal. Completed in under three years, the T4 project involved over 4,000 workers at the peak of its construction works.
For the first time at Changi Airport, T4 will see a terminal-wide implementation of fast and seamless travel (FAST) initiatives to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency. The preparatory works in the lead-up to its opening will involve the installation and testing of key airport systems and processes including the new FAST self-service and automated options covering check-in, bag-drop, immigration clearance and boarding.
There will also be training and familiarisation programmes organised for airport staff and partners, to prepare them for operations in the new terminal.
