The Hainan Story, a 5-in-1 multi-brand Hainanese restaurant is now open at Hillion Mall. In tribute of the early Hainanese settlers who arrived on Singapore’s shores shortly after the British, The Hainan Story wants to preserve Singapore’s colourful food heritage while offering diners a wide range of delicious, traditional favourites.
Often affiliated with the F&B industry, the Hainanese community is widely known to brew the best coffee in town while cooking up a storm in the kitchen. At The Hainan Story, this legacy continues. Through its 5 different concepts, The Hainan Story features the work of numerous Hainanese chefs — both famous and up-and-coming — who work closely together to create comforting, nostalgia-invoking meals.
They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and at The Hainan Story, they think the same. There, you’ll find old-school breakfasts done just right, with traditional Hainanese toasts that boast thick, fluffy buns with a pillowy-soft centre and wonderfully crisp crust — unlike the thin, flat toasts commonly found elsewhere.
Much effort was put into the décor of The Hainan Story to replicate the look and feel of traditional shophouses located at the old Hainanese enclave. The Hainanese enclave consisted of Seah Street (Hainan First Street), Purvis Street (Hainan Second Street) and Middle Road (Hainan Third Street).
From the red wooden arched window louvres to wired pendant lamps and vibrantly coloured signages, design elements are evocative of that era.

What started as a playful game of word between Anne-Jean and Panagiotis, the owners of House of AnLi at Tanglin Mall, resulted in the name of their culinary adventure: Pano Kato.
Pano Kato means in Greek – Panagiotis’s mother tongue – upstairs downstairs. Thus referring to House of AnLi store & bistro upstairs and House of AnLi & Pano Kato downstairs in Tanglin Mall.
The Greek origin of the words Pano Kato refers to the Mediterranean cuisine that is served in all it’s simplicity.
Simple, unpretentious, pure are key words in Anne-Jean’s and Panagiotis’ taste for delicious home cooked style food using great ingredients from the Mediterranean.

The new Gold Class Express hall, with its 32 plush leatherette electronic recliner seats, is the gateway to a luxurious cinematic experience akin to GV’s iconic Gold Class cinemas. For its enticing price, Gold Class’s signature butler service is replaced with a F&B ordering feature on the revamped iGV mobile app which allows moviegoers to pre-order food and drinks prior to the film.
GV Funan will also feature two GEMINI halls. The ever-popular seating option for couples, with their unique spacious design, offers additional legroom and retractable armrests – ideal for date nights at the movies!
And testament to GV’s ‘more than a movie’ brand promise, the multiplex has also expanded its entertainment offerings by introducing four Virtual Reality pods in the GV Funan foyer. In anod to Funan Mall’s high-tech legacy, patrons will be able to enjoy immersive virtual reality gaming and cinematic content – a further example of how GV is seeking to redefine the movie- going experience.

Cineleisure, the destination mall managed by Cathay Organisation, is proud to unveil its refreshed look, while welcoming three new and exciting concepts.
Forming a striking visual interplay of colours and textures, the revamped Cineleisure reveals interiors fitted with concrete juxtaposed against rustic wood timber. The playful balance between gritty accents and polished design, with a purposeful blend of warm earthy hues and cool steel palettes, add a distinctively dynamic element to the popular youth-oriented mall.
The pairing of fun and playful elements also extends to its eclectic mix of food, fashion, and entertainment tenants. This April, Cineleisure welcomes the addition of three new and hotly anticipated concepts—Tenkaichi Japanese BBQ and Shabu Shabu, The Alley Luxe, and Amazing Castle, of which the latter two are making its debut in Singapore

Last September, the company announced that they plan to open a total of 10 stores in Singapore by 2020.
The chain is operating in Singapore as Don Don Donki instead of their original name, Don Quijote, because a Don Quijote restaurant already exists here in Dempsey Road.

A project jointly developed by JTC, Singapore Tourism Board and Enterprise Singapore, Design Orchard aims to nurture home-grown brands and profile local design talents. Slated to open in early 2019, the 2.5-storey development is one of the initiatives under the Retail Industry Transformation Map (ITM), launched in September 2016. The Retail ITM envisions a thriving retail industry comprising a mix of highly productive omni-channel retailers, and local brands with global footprints, supported by a skilled and professional workforce.
As nurturing Singapore's design talent is integral to a pipeline of strong local retail brands that have capacity to internationalise, Design Orchard will provide a suite of support programmes that Singapore design talent can tap on for growth. Specifically, designers will be able to connect with overseas production partners and fashion associations, as well as get support for tradeshows and market access trips, business mentoring, training and other services.

The National Parks Board (NParks) launched Singapore’s first turtle hatchery at the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park in end-September. The hatchery is strategically located on Small Sister’s Island, a protected area zoned for conservation and research. There are two species of turtles that are native to Singapore – the Hawksbill Turtle and Green Sea Turtle – both of which are critically endangered.
Supported by HSBC’s 150th anniversary Community Fund through the Garden City Fund, the hatchery will also provide research opportunities for scientists to study local sea turtle populations. Outreach and education programmes will also be organised at the hatchery.
The turtle hatchery consists of two sections: A turtle field station and an incubation sand pit area. The turtle field station is a hub for hatchery-related activities, volunteer training, as well as curated educational and research programmes. The incubation sand pit area comprises three non-magnetic metal cages, where the turtle eggs will be kept. The cages will be partially buried in the sand and will protect the incubating eggs against predators, such as monitor lizards.

Hanbang Skin Solutions, the latest Korean facial service centre entrenched in Korean traditional massage technique, has opened its first centre at NEX Serangoon.
Established by KC Group, the same people behind the successful cluster of beauty and hair businesses, namely Yakson Singapore, Apgujeong Hair Studio, Myeongdong Hair Studio and Aoyama Hair Studio, the new centre features facial treatments that incorporate its key proprietary GeunmakTM Therapy – a Korean traditional skincare method, which enables customers to achieve firmer facial muscles, as well as a smoother and brighter skin appearance.
Spanning about 1,000 sq ft with eight private treatment rooms bathed in light beige and woody hues, the centre offers customers a calming and relaxing environment. More importantly, customers can expect attentiveness and professional service from the skilled beauticians.
Instead of focusing on the surface layer of the skin, Hanbang’s GeunmakTM Therapy concentrates on the deeper layers by stimulating the fascia; which is a layer of connective tissue made up of collagen that sits beneath the skin to enclose and stabilise the facial muscles. Using the Korean traditional massage technique, this facial therapy helps to relieve tensions between the muscles; boosts blood circulation, and activates the lymph nodes on the face concurrently.
One of the signature treatments at Hanbang Skin Solutions is the Hanbang Anti-Glycation Care. Glycation occurs when one consumes too much sugar, which can weaken the skin and internal organs, as well as retards the skin’s protein, elastin and collagen production. As a result, the skin starts to wrinkle, sag and become dull. In order to prevent premature aging of the skin, Hanbang Anti-Glycation Care treatment infuses essential nutrients into the skin to support the skin’s structure. The proprietary facial massage technique used in the treatment would promote skin elasticity and contour the face through detox and lymphatic drainage, which in turn, firm up the muscles.
Every facial treatment at Hanbang Skin Solutions is specially curated to target different common skin concerns among Singaporean women and men. Before extending any treatment, customers will undergo a skin analysis, which allows the beauty therapist to recommend the most suitable treatment and products for their skin condition in order to achieve optimal facial result. Besides Hanbang Anti-Glycation Care, other available treatments include Anti-Blemish Care, Deep Pore Cleansing Care and Hydro Boost Care, just to name a few.

Taking the phrase “it’s a bit of a stretch” quite literally is Say Chiizu – the irresistibly Instagrammable Hokkaido-style cheese toast that has taken Thailand by storm with its ‘pull-factor’, and is now set to ‘pull’ in the fans from Singapore as well.
Proudly owned by Say Chiizu Pte Ltd in Singapore, the brand will open its first outlet on 15 January at VivoCity and Singaporeans can expect more stores dotted throughout the island in shopping malls such as White Sands Shopping Centre, 313@Somerset and The Clementi Mall in the first quarter 2018. Aside from takeaway kiosks, the brand will also be opening a café in central Singapore in February, this year. There are plans to open 10 outlets by the end of 2018.
A cut above the rest, Say Chiizu’s famous cheese is made with specially imported Japanese milk, thus resulting in a deliciously premium flavour. It is then mixed with a blend of fresh cheeses such as mozzarella to create the optimum texture for that unmistakable ‘cheese-pull’, while staying true to the brand’s emphasis on using ingredients with no additives or preservatives.
The brand’s commitment to making ‘your smile their happiness’ is evident in its ultra-stretchy cheese pull and bright cutesy package, modelled after one of the co-founders’ nickname ‘Bear’. Snugly wrapped in a ‘kawaii' (Japanese for ‘cute’) sunny yellow ‘bear’ sleeve with a smile made up of the Japanese words for ‘Say Chiizu’ the cheese is served between crisp slices of pillowy homemade Hokkaido milk toast while remaining invitingly melty within. Customers can expect a subtle savoury-sweet flavour in every bite that will satisfy all dairy cravings.

Taiwan's most instagrammable bubble tea has arrived in Singapore! Bobii Frutii epitomises beauty in a cup.
Standing out like a beacon among a sea of bubble tea brands is Bobii Frutii, the latest entrant from Taiwan set to take Singapore by storm with its catchy moniker, gorgeous Insta-worthy drinks concocted with tremendous attention to detail, use of top quality ingredients and of course, Singapore Brand Ambassador as well as Creative Director, Nat Ho 鶴天賜.
Nat is also known for his long-standing role in Mediacorp's Channel 5 drama, Tanglin.
The creative drinks and affectionately-termed bobii (tapioca pearls in colloquial Taiwanese) are made with natural ingredients such as butterfly pea extract, fresh milk and fruit juice. In addition, the brand eschews high-fructose corn syrup, and uses only premium brown cane sugar from Taiwan. Customers are also able to choose the level of sweetness for the tea-based drinks at Bobii Frutti.
Bobii Frutii also gets its red tea from Sri Lanka and green tea from Vietnam. The oolong tea leaves and mochi-like bobii are specially imported from the brand’s own farm and factory in Taiwan respectively, for optimum freshness. These high quality bobiis contain no preservatives, additives and artificial colouring.
Combining the industrial style of hipster cafés with the refinement of wood finishing, Bobii Frutii’s standalone kiosk at The Clementi Mall evokes a modern feel.
This takeaway-only outlet's menu in Singapore features 37 different drinks under five categories– a number that makes up almost 80 percent of the selection in Taiwan.
Bobii Frutii was established in Taipei, Taiwan in 2015 by two students with a fondness for bubble tea and hipster café culture. It currently has five outlets, three in Taiwan, one in Shenzhen and one in Singapore. There are plans to open more outlets in across the island in 2018. Bobii Frutii Pte Ltd in Singapore works closely with the Taiwanese team that includes undergoing strict tea-making training to ensure the best customer experience.
Brand Ambassador & Creative Director, Nat has also undergone rigorous training to learn the intricacies of creating the drinks and personally visited the tea plantation in Miaoli, Taiwan – where Bobii Frutii obtains their oolong tea – to understand the full process from farm to cup.

Singapore’s leading cinema exhibitor, Golden Village Multiplex (GV), is upping the ante in the entertainment scene in the east of the city, with the opening of Singapore’s first all-new laser projection multiplex at the new Singpost Centre retail mall, located at the heart of Paya Lebar.
Laser projection made its debut on the screens in all eight auditoriums at the 756-seat GV Paya Lebar, which officially opened to the public last month.
With a brightness of 20,000 lumens, the Barco Smart Laser Projection delivers unprecedented picture quality, far outperforming traditional digital projections. The new system creates higher contrast, clearer, crisper imagery and higher colour saturation, providing viewers with a far superior visual effect.
Similarly, auditorium seating has undergone a radical re-think from conventional cinema row-seating. Fusing contemporary design with essential modern-day comfort, GV Paya Lebar’s latest seating concept in its DUO DELUXE hall, gives movie goers the option of enhanced privacy and comfort. With its opulent twin leatherette seats, specially designed with lumbar cushion for superior support, the exclusive 58-seat cinema is further testament to GV’s uncompromising approach to creating the ultimate cinema experience.
And while the in-cinema enhancements might be the main talking point, the multiplex’ aesthetics is far from an afterthought. GV’s grab & Gold® café frames the entrance of the multiplex, lending the foyer both purpose and an aesthetic harmony, rarely seen in modern- day cinema design. grab & Gold® diners can enjoy a variety of local favourites and western dishes all of which can be enjoyed in the 35-seater café or in auditoriums during film screenings.

The Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) will open on Monday, 4 September and will be the ninth completed integrated transport hub in Singapore.
In addition to greater convenience for commuters with seamless transfers between the new air-conditioned bus interchange and the Bukit Panjang MRT and LRT stations, commuters using the new Bukit Panjang ITH can expect new features to enhance their overall journey experience. The new ITH will also feature several technological innovations to improve workplace safety, for example, a traffic management system to detect and increase bus captains’ visual awareness of bus movements within the bus parking area.
The Bukit Panjang ITH is the first integrated transport hub operated by SMRT Buses, who has invested significantly to ensure a positive travelling experience for commuters using the new ITH.
The Bukit Panjang ITH will take on a different look and feel, with its design and function planned around three key themes: Commuter Centricity, Workforce Oriented and Community Bonding. Please refer to the Annex for a summary of new features at Bukit Panjang ITH.
One of the few features unique to this hub is that commuters can soon borrow items such as portable USB charger, shopping trolley and an umbrella when they travel through the Bukit Panjang ITH. To borrow the items, commuters need to go to the WeCare Shop located near the bus interchange at the ground level of the connected Hillion Mall, also to provide an identity card (to be scanned) and a contact number. They may keep the items for up to three days, after which SMRT employees will contact them to return the things.

The Bukit Panjang ITH is fully equipped with barrier-free facilities which makes it convenient to take public transport, especially for commuters with mobility issues as well as commuters travelling with young children and prams. For example, graduated kerb edges are installed at all boarding berths to facilitate boarding and alighting of buses by passengers in wheelchairs. Bus berths and lifts have also been braille-equipped for the visually impaired.
Priority queues and accompanying seats will also be demarcated for seniors, less mobile and expectant mothers to rest and wait at, so that they can be accorded priority boarding for their buses.
All new and upcoming ITHs and Bus Interchanges developed from 2014 are also designed with standalone nursing rooms which comes with diaper changing amenities and a wash basin.

Their educators believe young children have an innate curiosity about their environment and a spontaneous desire to explore, imagine, construct and question. To support and develop this natural desire, their S.T.E.A.M. Approach (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) enables children to explore, experiment and engage all their senses.
The centre's curriculum will follow that of other PCF Sparkletots pre-schools, which is regularly reviewed, and focuses on areas like numeracy, creative expression and motor skills development.

The largest mall in Northern Singapore will open to shoppers in the fourth quarter this year. Developed by Frasers Centrepoint Singapore, the mall is part of Northpoint City, the largest integrated development in the North, housing over 400 retail and dining outlets across two retail wings.
When completed, the 1.33 million square feet Northpoint City will also include the 920-unit North Park Residences, community spaces, an air-conditioned bus interchange and an underground retail link with direct access to Yishun MRT Station.
Northpoint City is expected to serve as a lifestyle, recreation and integrated transportation hub for over half a million residents from Singapore’s northern region.

With a community club, a rooftop community garden, a public library, a town plaza which is the size of 10 basketball courts and a line-up of lifestyle and retail offerings curated to serve the community, Northpoint City will be the key venue of community interaction and activities.
The Nee Soon Central Community Club will move into the South Wing of the mall by 2018 and will be the first Community Club in Singapore to be housed in a shopping mall. The Yishun Public Library will also be re-opening in the mall by the first quarter of next year.
Pursuant to the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Community and Sports Facilities Scheme (CSFS)1, Frasers Centrepoint Singapore created additional space for community-focused services. Such community-centric tenants include The RICE Company, a performing arts non-profit organisation, as well as a childcare centre The Orange Academy.

Shoppers can expect a new, exciting and vibrant shopping experience at both the North and South wings, which will form the mall at Northpoint City. With the expected completion of its Asset Enhancement Initiative (AEI) in September 2017, Northpoint Shopping Centre will be integrated into Northpoint City and renamed as its North Wing.
In addition to a diverse range of retail offerings, the North Wing will feature over 50 food and beverage concepts, including family favourites Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Tenderfresh. The South Wing will have a second food court in addition to a speciality food precinct named "The Makan Town”, an education cluster, as well as other thematic shopping zones.

Drawn by the potential and scale of Northpoint City, the mall is on track to having close to 90% of its retail space leased when it opens in the fourth quarter of this year. Harvey Norman will move into a brand-new 34,000 square feet store to offer even more selections for its shoppers, while retail stalwart FairPrice will open a supermarket spanning 33,000 square feet. This will be the second supermarket in Northpoint City in addition to the existing Cold Storage supermarket, giving even more options for shoppers.
Linking the two wings of Northpoint City’s retail space will be The Courtyard at Basement 1. It will be a community space designed to allow natural light into the mall, while offering an unobstructed view of shopfronts in that area.

Acqua E Farina's co-founders and executive chefs, Roberto Galbiati and Antonio Manetto, bring their warm smiles and tried-and-tested recipes from their hometowns to their newly opened Italian restaurant at The Rail Mall.
The pizzas are mainly Neapolitan-style with a small section for Sicilian-style barca or boat pizzas, perhaps not surprising as they are under the charge of chef Antonio who was born and bred in a small town near Naples and who grew up eating the pizza he later trained to make.

Pastas at Acqua e Farina are an exploration of the different gastronomic expressions of North and South Italy. For example, the Linguine ai Frutti di Mare is a very typical Southern-style seafood pasta: the tomato base is gently simmered with seafood such as prawns and squid so that it takes on the flavours of the sea while retaining the tangy fruitiness of the tomatoes. The Spaghetti al Nero di Seppia takes a very different approach. It is a typical Northern-style seafood pasta which looks rich and almost intimidating on the plate but draws out hearty flavours that feels almost earthy if it weren’t for the scent of the ocean that lingers on the palate.

Yellow Cab serves New York-style pizza with premium ingredients and generous toppings. But wait, what is New York-style pizza anyway? Unlike the pizza you’re used to, New York-style pizza is crisp and slightly charred in the bottom, dense and chewy in the middle, and slightly gooey on top. And that’s just the crust. Top it off with a generous serving of the freshest, highest-quality ingredients, and you get—simply put—great New York-style pizza.
