They offer a casual luxury starting at the front door permeating into a great ambience when you cross the threshold. Qantas has officially opened its newest First Lounge, a luxury space spread over 1,000 sqm at Singapore’s Changi Airport.
The new First Lounge will operate in tandem alongside the airline’s existing International Business Lounge, providing capacity for 240 customers and a bespoke offering for Qantas’ First Class passengers and top tier frequent flyers.
The new build was designed by Australian designer David Caon in collaboration with Kelvin Ho of architecture and design firm Akin Atelie and features a number of Singaporean influences across the look and feel of the lounge as well as the food and beverage offering.
Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said the opening of the new lounge is a reflection of the airline’s extensive premium investment in the region.
“Since our A380 flights have returned to Singapore, we’ve seen an increase in demand for premium travel which has also translated to an increase in the number of travellers enjoying our lounge hospitality.
“This is our fourth Qantas First Lounge, and each time we build an entire new lounge facility from scratch, we speak to our frequent flyers to get a better understanding of how customers like to spend their time in the lounge and tailor it accordingly. Our customers told us their key priorities when travelling through or from Singapore is space to relax and do some last-minute work, a quick shower, and a meal before departure so they can maximise their sleep onboard.”
An open kitchen will serve up a Rockpool a la carte seasonal menu designed with Singapore’s vibrant dining culture in mind.
The lounge also features a cocktail bar with lounge seating, serving French champagne, seasonal spritzes, unique cocktails inspired by Singapore, like a Calamansi Mojito – made from the local Calamansi fruit, Singaporean and Australian beer – and a variety of Australian wine. View Singapore First Lounge Menu here.
Non-alcoholic healthy beverages such as kefir and kombucha, barley water and a Rockpool ‘House Lemonade’ are available, along with all day barista service with Vittoria coffee and a selection of savoury bar snacks and fruit.
Wellness continues to be a major inspiration and the new Qantas First Lounge brings the outside in. Live greenery features throughout the lounge to soften the space and bolster the atmosphere, while the use of natural materials and colour palettes is designed to help relax customers.
A unique faux ‘skylight’ in the shower suites and lounge area will replicate natural daylight and help adjust the body clock as customers transition through multiple time zones.
Business travellers have the choice to work in an open, communal setting or individual lounge chairs with high dividers. USB and charging ports are located throughout the lounge, with wireless printing, Wi-Fi and TV screens for customers to stay charged and connected.
The new premium space is Qantas’ fourth First Lounge across its global network, joining Sydney, Melbourne, and Los Angeles. The opening is part of the multi-million-dollar investment for customers on its Singapore services and complements the expanded Qantas International Business lounge at Changi, which combined now offers seating for more than 800 customers.

In partnership with CO&CO, a leading co-working solutions provider from Hokkaido, Japan, One&Co is now open and is fully equipped with 34 private offices and 110 co-working desks, spanning the entire 11th floor of Twenty Anson in the vibrant business district of Tanjong Pagar.
Cathay Organisation has unveiled a new space designed to reinvigorate the coworking scene in Singapore. Situated in the vibrant Robertson Quay neighbourhood, in close proximity to the Central Business District and surrounded by a host of fitness and lifestyle establishments, Gather aims to create a community of like-minded individuals and bring renewed inspiration to their work. As well as being conducive to a focused and productive work day, the pet-friendly space prioritises the wellbeing of their members through a unique and engaging programme of lifestyle offerings.
Designed by Takenouchi Webb – the name behind a slew of establishments across the city, including The Straits Clan, Esora, and The Tippling Club – Gather is warm, bright and inviting. The design brief for GATHER was to create a softer workplace; this was achieved through opening up the space and maximising ceiling heights and natural light, using full-length windows to allow natural light to shine in and welcome the surrounding greenery.
The colour palette uses a selection of earthy pinks, whites, and light wood colours to complement the use of natural marbles and stronger terrazzo tones to create a relaxed atmosphere which differentiates it from other coworking options in the city. Whilst the design of the workspaces was kept relatively simple, a heavier focus was placed on the key communal areas, where more impactful materials were used, with brass elements punctuating the social setting.
A coworking space designed with the modern- day business in mind, Gather offers a host of workplace options, from fully-furnished offices to bespoke suites and event spaces, workshops, sessions and activities.
A total of 12 offices range in occupancy from 6 to 40 people. On level 3, all spaces are fully furnished, with private offices suitable for up to 8 people. On levels 4 and 5, bespoke options offer freedom and flexibility for individuals to customise their own office space and layout, whilst still benefitting from the various perks of a Gather membership. Larger office spaces on these floors are able to accommodate businesses of up to 40 employees.
Situated on the outskirts of the iconic Orchard Road shopping district and easily accessible from the Central Business District, Robertson Quay makes for a more relaxed office location; the urbanised area is home to an eclectic mix of restaurants and cafes, with al fresco dining options aplenty and a focus on community and neighbourhood. Holding the wellbeing of their members in high regard, Gather has partnered with several establishments in and around Robertson Quay, offering exclusive benefits for members with Orange Theory Fitness, Absolute You and F45, amongst others. The new coworking space will also play host to regular networking and community-based events, offering members the opportunity to expand their network, learn new skills, and embrace a more social work life.

The much-anticipated 1880 has announced its official opening for end-September 2017. The born-in-Singapore members’ club hopes to inspire conversations that impact society in a positive way. It does this by creating a diverse community of members who represent the collective brains of creativity, drive and passion.
Its home will occupy the third floor of the city’s latest waterfront lifestyle destination, Quayside@Robertson Quay, situated in the eponymous enclave along the Singapore River.
1880 is named for the era that Robertson Quay was built. It is the antidote to the traditional members’ club, shunning homogeneity, while championing diversity, ingenuity and global citizenry. The four pillars of the club are membership, design, events and hospitality.
Further setting it apart is its unique formula of combining a social club and co-working space. The latter is named Bardo, the Tibetan word for “an intermediate state”, implying a clean slate and clarity of mind free of external influence. The intent is to blur the line between work and life – perhaps even redefine the somewhat antiquated notion of work- life balance – by seamlessly integrating both concepts within 1880.
In particular, 1880 is designed to be the golf course for women, embracing their lifestyles. It is intended that the club eventually be replicated in major cities across Asia. In doing so, it will offer women who travel extensively for work and play an inspiring space to drop in to. While there, they might have the opportunity to meet like-minded people through an event, or even catch a film about social justice.
1880's design is conceptualised by Timothy Oulton Studio and includes an outdoor dining deck, members’ lounge, dining room, spa, grooming facilities, café, bar, cinema and library.
On one hand, members can go to the club and find a space to decompress and have fun. On the other hand, they can use it to expand their social and business network.
Based on the well-loved TV series F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Central Perk Cafe will have their soft launch this weekend and would make a nice new place to hang-out near Clarke Quay.
