The 3.9-hectare Bendera Bay is nestled within St John’s Island, and comprises a lagoon with a variety of mangrove, coral, seagrass, sandy shore and rocky shore habitats. This variety of habitats thus provides unique opportunities for outreach and research. “Bendera Bay” was named as such by the Friends of the Marine Park (FMP), as the indigenous Malay name for St John’s Island is Pulau Sekijang Bendera.
Since securing Bendera Bay for outreach and education activities in late 2019, the Friends of the Marine Park (FMP) community, which includes kayakers, anglers, divers, boaters, and researchers, has been discussing ways to activate the area through education, outreach and research activities.
With the support of NParks, the FMP community will spearhead efforts to balance the different uses of the area, and scheduling the programmes that will take place there, to be planned around four domains – Research, Recreation, Heritage, and Education.
Currently, the area is not open for public access as it is closed for conservation and research. The FMP aims to carry out activities for the public from early 2021, subject to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden has doubled in size with a new two-hectare extension that includes new attractions and programmes geared towards youngsters up to 14 years old.
This will allow families with older children to immerse in nature as they explore the different eco-systems simulated in this new extension. It aims to expose children to and help them understand the ecology of plants through nature play and experiential learning. Prior to the extension, the Garden catered to children up to 12 years old.

Be an ‘Adventurer’, ‘Gardener’ or ‘Naturalist’ for a day at the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden by following these carefully curated trails.
Located in Woodlands, Admiralty Park is the largest park in the north. It is situated on hilly terrain with Sungei Cina river running through it, and houses the largest nature area within an urban park. The enhanced 7-ha urban area now features 26 slides – the most number of slides in any park in Singapore! The widest slide and the longest slide in a public park can be found here.
The playground capitalises on the undulating terrain to site the three main play areas – Junior Play, Adventure Play and the Family Terracing Play – catering to children of all ages and featuring diverse play equipment that encourage group and multi-generation interactions.
Admiralty Park also features an inclusive playground, as part of an initiative announced by NParks in 2015. Inclusive playgrounds provide the physical structure, or ‘hardware’, that supports play between children with and without special needs.
The 20-ha nature area encompasses a diverse mix of secondary forest, mangrove, riverine and open grassland habitats, and is home to more than 100 species of flora and fauna. With several trails within the 20-hectare nature area, visitors can discover the different species living in the forest, spot hordes of dragonflies and observe monkeys in their natural habitat. Alternatively, emerge from the secondary forest near the car park and admire the butterflies and different species of birds as you walk through the grassland. The walking trail also showcases interesting flora like the Putat Kampung Tree and climbers like Hedgehog Rattan, an increasingly rare plant in Singapore. The nature area will be open to public by December 2017.

The Bar & Billiard Room at Raffles Hotel marks a new era with its return to a storied and sophisticated, yet relaxed bar and lounge specialising in whisky, original and imaginative cocktails, craft beers and high quality cigars.
Noted as the oldest existing bar in its original location in Singapore, the Bar & Billiard Room will now present up to 400 curated whiskies alongside an entirely new cocktail list and bar menu.
With a beautiful room and outdoor covered terraces, the unique and historic setting at Bar & Billiard Room naturally lends itself to the new evolution. The Bar & Billiard Room will also serve as an everyday meeting place as well as for special occasions.
Christoph B. Nyfeler shares his 16 years of whisky experience as Raffles Singapore’s Resident Whisky Expert. Of the 400 hand selected whiskies, many are limited editions and directly imported for the bar. The whisky list boasts a strong Scottish presence with a good selection of American bourbons and Japanese whiskies rounding off the collection.
To add special interest, Christoph will host whisky events such as whisky appreciation masterclasses and whisky dinners regularly. He can also create exclusive whisky pairing menus for groups and corporate events of up to 20 people. You can share your individual taste preferences with Christoph who will then customise a dinner menu where courses are paired with different types of single malt whiskies.
Equal attention has been given to the new whisky-led cocktails created by Raffles Singapore Restaurant and Bar Operations Manager Randolph Velasco and his award-winning bartenders. With special skills and knowledge of infused liqueurs and house-made bitters, the team have based the bar’s new concoctions on classic cocktails with a modern twist in Menu highlights include the BBR 1896, a nod to the year the Bar & Billiard Room was established. The complex cocktail is a delight for the senses; the bourbon is first fat-washed in butter for a creamy mouth feel and savoury flavour, mixed with Angostura bitters, smoked with chamomile tea leaves for a subtle, floral aroma and finally garnished with a slice of orange peel.
The Old Nick was a favourite tipple for navy officers who needed some liquid courage before heading out to sea. The Bar & Billiard Room’s version is a combination of Scotch whisky, thyme liqueur, Dom Benedictine, orange and lemon bitters. The comprehensive cocktail menu encompasses other base spirits such as gin, tequila and vodka as well. Look forward to the Miss “H”, Randolph’s take on the ubiquitous martini featuring kiwi, Cointreau, lime, and muddled kiwi fruit.
Bar bites include a selection of sophisticated nibbles and more substantial sharing plates. An array of cold and hot dishes can either be enjoyed as an accompaniment to drinks or as full-fledged meal. Menu highlights include Crabmeat Cigars, shredded fresh crab meat wrapped in vine leaves.
For a sweet finish in keeping with the bar's theme, Chocolate Whisky Stones are available in three different flavours – dark, milk and white chocolate. The chocolate is first melted down and infused with whisky before being placed in moulds to resemble the whisky stones commonly used to chill the spirit without diluting the drink.
The Bar & Billiard Room also houses one of the five original billiard tables from the turn of the century and you are invited to have a game over drinks. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the bar will feature live jazz.

Today, the premium casual wear brand looks back to the great expeditions of the last century and the intrepid explorers who transformed their lives into unique journeys that inspired mankind. Napapijri is a variation of the Finnish word for the Arctic Circle and the logo, half positive and half negative, expresses the North and South Poles in graphic form. The Norwegian flag is closely linked to the brand's DNA, representing Europe’s northernmost country, the birthplace of some of the great explorers of the 20th century as well as a land of extreme conditions and magnificent landscapes.
