It all started with a seed and then that was nurtured by their firmly-held belief in celebrating neighbourhoods, that blossomed into a space bourne out of love called Tiong Bahru Bakery on 43 Jalan Merah Saga in Chip Bee Gardens, surrounding the artsy bohemian enclave, Holland Village. After six years in the planning of this long-awaited fourth bakery (really, since the inception of this Singapore-French concept), finally the Home of the Handmade Croissant can embrace the unique culture of the locale and the creative melting pot of individuals that make up this quaint and tight-knitted community.
Sticking closely to homegrown Tiong Bahru Bakery's DNA, they bring fresh breads, viennoiserie and pastries to the people everyday. Debuted in May 2012 on Eng Hoon Street in charming Tiong Bahru, offering the neighbourhood a range of French pastries and artisanal breads made with the best French flour and butter. As one of the very first French bakeries in Singapore, Tiong Bahru Bakery revolutionised the way locals enjoy breads with topnotch bakes and sparked the French bakery trends. Their croissants have been voted by many as the best in Singapore and the Kouign Amanns are much raved about. All best enjoyed with an aromatic cuppa from the specialty coffee bar by Common Man Coffee Roasters.

District6, Singapore’s newest co-working space, has opened its doors.
Housed on the second floor of Odeon Towers, the chic and minimalist space is designed to flood the space with natural light in the day. The generous 10,000 square feet space is outfitted with comforting furnishings and a pleasing palette of wood and white – drawing from the belief that the art of a decluttered space leads to a decluttered mind. Furthermore, the founders have left it up to the discretion of its tenants to decorate their own office as they see fit such that it would feel more like their very own space.
The promising community that the District6 team have built so far include people who create and innovate the built environment like real estate tech and smart living start-up IglooHome and one of the most significant research and education non-profits in the real estate industry - Urban Land Institute.
The team at DISTRICT6 will host events relevant to the co-working community that inspire and inform, above the usual networking opportunities. Those include, the first real estate tech Hackathon in Singapore hosted in collaboration with IglooHome, keynote speeches and networking hosted by Urban Land Institute, and fundraisers for visionary hotel schools in Myanmar.
The unassuming but elegantly designed space at District6 is utilised to provide a range of flexi desks, dedicated desks, private studios (for teams of 2 to 4), private offices (for larger companies with 5 to 20 people); and four unique meeting rooms.
Amenities and facilities include small meetings rooms, dedicated phone booths, a large boardroom, and an event space that holds up to 100 people, complete with 8-metre high ceiling with a projectable wall. The communal ‘living room’ also houses specialty Coffee bar from Kyoto, Kurasu. Singapore will reclaim land through the development of a polder at the north-western tip of Pulau Tekong. This innovative, cost-saving method, to be used for the first time here, will be adopted by the Housing & Development Board (HDB) for the upcoming land reclamation project.
Construction will commence at the end of next year, and the reclamation is slated for completion around 2022. The plot of land to be added is equivalent to the size of two Toa Payoh towns and would be used for military training. Unlike the traditional method of infilling with sand, this new “empoldering” method involves creating a tract of reclaimed land from the sea or a surrounding water body, by constructing a dike and a network of drains, water pumping systems and canals. It will substantially reduce the amount of sand needed for land reclamation, and reap savings on upfront construction costs.

Just as in the case for Gessi Milano, Gessi has long sought for a very special location to open an inspirational place where the Gessi's world beauty, sophistication, wellness, creativity in designing the most intimate spaces of home dwelling could be represented. Charm, uniqueness, splendor, were the qualities Gessi was looking for, in establishing its house in Singapore.
The place is as unique as one of the very few remaining Victorian mansions in the city and even more one of a kind as it sits in the very heart of the city. Perfectly preserved, it dates back to the XIX century and it is a much protected conservation house.
The project involved the restoration of a two-storey Victorian building that sits on land which was once a nutmeg estate owned by Dr. Thomas Oxley, back in the Colonial era.
They called it Casa Gessi, the Gessi home, first because home interiors is what they propose. Indeed the Casa Gessi is the home to the different ideas and concepts Gessi developed for the home, from the minimalistic Rettangolo home concept, to the soothing roundness of the Ovale Home, to the organic enveloping Goccia and iSpa home, the charming Eleganza home, the artsy, verdant and architectural Cono home concept and so on.
The legendary steakhouse, Morton’s, has unveiled a refreshed and contemporary new look following a 3 month renovation.
16 years since the restaurant first opened its doors in Singapore, the time-honoured main dining room, three private dining rooms and Bar 12.21, have all been transformed to reveal a fresh, bright and contemporary space, which exudes sophistication.
The restaurant façade now features French windows which offer an inviting glimpse of the revamp through Bar 12.21 and on to the main dining room beyond. With its lighted bottle display and contemporary chandelier light feature, the chic bar makes an ideal place to rendezvous for aperitifs of signature MORtinis or sample a selection of over 60 whiskies, bourbon and premium spirits.
Over in the main dining room, the use of crisp white paint on the walls is elegantly contrasted against the use of dark wood accents seen in the cornices, window frames and the screen panel features. This is offset by the accents of warm colour tones in the vaulted ceilings; gold in the main dining room and pale blue in the private dining rooms, as well as the use of various textures throughout, such as the brickwork effect stone tiles which frames the showcase kitchen. With a distinct Art Deco feel to the overall design, the restaurant now benefits from a real sense of space - the accumulative result of the removal of the partition between Bar 12.21 and the main dining room; the new wall-to-wall windows that stretch the length of the main dining room; the creative use of mirrors and clean contrasting colour palate, all beneath the warm glow of the bright sparkling chandeliers.
The three private dining rooms, each space unique, follow the clean and contemporary look, and feature distinct pale-blue vaulted ceiling with a cloud mural. New cutlery and glassware completes the overall redesign, not to mention the cherished pig-shaped tabletop oil lamps which have been lovingly restored, and now utilise eco-friendly tealight effect lights.

The Chinese zodiac animal drawings on the wall are designed by Joseph Wong, a senior manger of a foreign Bank, specially commissioned and shaped like toast in line with the cafe's logo and face left or right in line with feng shui configurations. Its owner Elia Lim is a new kid in the business as well. Everything about the cafe mirrors her own life - bubbly, bright, honest and all heart. She takes the name "Le" from the Chinese character "kuai le" meaning happy. And "halo"? Well, she hopes you taste a bit of heaven in her food creations. It may be a 9-minute walk from Tiong Bahru MRT station but the walk will be worth it.
The Piggy Stew is Le Halo's best selling item so far. Slow cooked to full flavour with generous chunks of pork, it is served with fingers of crispy buttered toast, making them the perfect companion for this dish.
