Man Man Unagi will also offer an exclusive item: Kaisen x Hitsumabushi by Teppei and Man Man (S$32.50++). The restaurant is renowned for its unagi offerings – its success is in part due to its insistence on using only premium Japanese eel. Drenching the eel is a thick, rich and moreish unagi sauce. At the new restaurant, you can ask for refills of the sauce! The perfectly grilled eel, which has a wonderful smoky aroma, is paired with Nanatsuboshi white rice and fresh wasabi. There are three ways to enjoy hitsumabushi: on its own; with a mix of condiments, wasabi and green onions; and with soup added to the aforementioned mix. The unagi is served alongside an exquisite kaisen don with a secret-recipe sauce from Teppei Japanese restaurant.

The new venture promotes thoughtful living by challenging food norms that bring about unnecessary food wastage. Derived from the word “cosmos” – a system of thought, Kausmo is the brainchild of co-founders Lisa Tang, 24, and Kuah Chew Shian, 26.
Lisa, nominee for the Rising Female Chef award at the World Gourmet Summit 2019 and runner-up for the 2014 Les Amis Awards Culinary Competition, graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. It was her time in Primo, a restaurant on a farm that actively engages in zero-waste practices, that inspired her to start a thoughtful business back home. With Kausmo, Lisa hopes to creatively repurpose aesthetically filtered fruits and vegetables that are overstocked, over-ripened, and oddly-shaped and sized.
“Retailers are looking for produce that are of uniform shape and size, but nature doesn’t workthat way. We want to show that ingredients not ideal for retail can be perfect on our plates. AtKausmo, we celebrate imperfections,” shares Chew Shian, restaurant manager.
Every dish created at Kausmo incorporates thoughtfully sourced ingredients; seafood from small farming communities in the region, secondary cuts of meat which are often overlooked in favour of prime cuts, as well as forgotten native greens and florals.
Combining European techniques with Asian influences, Lisa, who has worked at Pollen, Jaan, and Les Amis, demonstrates how lesser-loved ingredients are no less delicious than their popular counterparts.
Kausmo will offer a 6-course Carte Blanche menu at $75++, with Kombucha tasting at an additional $20. Diners can expect flavourful dishes inspired by stories, as the team behind Kausmo takes supply volatility in their stride.
“We’ve learnt to embrace the volatility of our ingredients, because Mother Nature is just as beautifully unpredictable! Much more operational planning and preservation of produce has to be in place to better utilise our ingredients – a challenge that we willingly welcome. In a city known to be able to source almost anything at any time, perhaps it’s time to slow down; better appreciate and understand our food sources & produce,” comments Lisa.

Whilst the design of the workspaces was kept relatively simple, a heavier focus was placed on the key communal areas, where more impactful materials were used, with brass elements punctuating the social setting.

Diners can enjoy a wide range of delectable Japanese cuisine at the new venue, with four new-to-market Japanese brands making their local debut, namely conveyor-belt sushi chain Chojiro, Italian-Japanese fusion restaurant Pronto, unagi specialty restaurant Unaemon and frozen fruit bar Paletas.
The well-loved leading luxury Japanese confectionery and chocolatier, Morozoff, which has three other outlets in Singapore (Plaza Singapura, Westgate and Jewel Changi Airport), has also set up shop at Gochi, selling its range of fine chocolates, best-selling cookies and cream cheesecakes. Hokkaido’s No. 1 soup curry eatery, Suage, which has two restaurants located at Capitol Piazza and Jewel Changi Airport, has an express counter at Gochi to cater to the busy CBD lunch crowds.
The new Trehaus at City Hall is a Silicon Valley-inspired preschool and childcare that is changing early education, focuses on building character and future skills, and lets parents be present for their children’s learning journey.

Funan’s indoor cycling path runs 200 metres from the start of the trail to the Level 1 Bicycle Hub. The cycling path serves working professionals in and around Funan who cycle to office during the morning peak hours.
During the mall's operating hours from 10am to 10pm, cyclists are encouraged to dismount and push their bicycles in the mall. The Bicycle Hub houses a variety of end-to-trip amenities that include shower cabins, lockers, and a bicycle repair and pump station.
There are also bicycle counters that allow cyclists to take their meals while seated on their bicycles. Funan will have 166 bicycle bays – the most among any CapitaLand property in the Civic District and CBD.

Seated on its hilltop, the Alkaff Mansion has witnessed the passage of time for a hundred years. This 2-storey Tudor-style building was built in 1918 by a member of the prominent Arab family, the Alkaffs.
In 2005, the Alkaff Mansion was accorded conservation building status by the URA, ensuring its key architectural features would be preserved for posterity. Following a number of years when it was left vacant, the mansion was again restored in 2011 to become an Italian restaurant until 2016. The second makeover cost another S$5 million.

Uya Singapore at Wheelock Place is a 90-seater restaurant which specialises in grilled live unagi (freshwater eels). It’s opened by the people behind Koji restaurant at Pickering Street, which is known for its chirashi don.
Uya is a local collaboration with an experienced unagi distributor from Nagoya, Japan.
The eels are sourced from both Japan & Taiwan and transported live to Singapore, where they are prepared daily in the restaurant and grilled over binchotan charcoal.
There is a glass panel at the front of the restaurant where you can watch the chefs in action.
About one quarter of the retail space at the new Funan mall has been taken up and local theatre company W!LD RICE is among one of the latest tenants announced together with a few other familiar brands.
The retail mall will have 200 shops over six storeys, and is targeted for completion in the fourth quarter of 2019.
