The Blue Ginger has come a long way and has finally established their 2nd branch at the newly-revamped Great World City.
The inspiration behind their starting “blue ginger” cannot be fully explained without first sharing with you the aspects of peranakan culture. As a peranakan, the signature of a well-bred “Nonya”, or Straits Chinese lady, was how well one could cook. It was often the matriarch of the family who would bring the entire family together, over a mouth-watering spread of spicy and aromatic dishes.
Their journey of rediscovery was prompted by the fond memories of hearty feasts at grandma’s. The Blue Ginger was created simply through their desire to share their unique culture with others.
Today, the restaurant is run by a team of people who are passionate towards this end.

From your bedroom to the bathroom, from the dining room to the living room, from the knick knacks to the occasional furniture. Be spoilt for choices when you shop at Hooga for your home.
Hooga (pronounced hue-guh) is a concept of living derived from the Danish word “hygge”. But what is the meaning of hygge? The hygge concept cannot be translated to one single word but it encompasses a feeling of cosy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life. With so many cold, dark days during the winter month, the Danes incorporate hygge into their daily life to create a wonderfully warm and cosy atmosphere.
Hygge is the art form of creating intimacy in any given moment. It’s about sitting by the fire with a mug of cocoa, enjoying the company of your loved ones or waking up on a chilly morning, reading a book while you’re all wrapped up in a blanket.
When it comes to embracing the concept, it’s always about creating a warm and cosy atmosphere. Candles, lamps, and fireplaces are among the common uses of lighting. It is common in Scandinavian decor to find candles scattered throughout the space or fairy lights draped across the mantle. Colour palette that is neutral contributes to an atmosphere of harmony and peace. Soft and fluffy textures are some of the key elements in the hygge concept. Think: fluffy pillows and soft rugs. There’s nothing better than snuggling up on the couch with layers of blankets and pillows.
The Danish concept of hygge has spread its warmth across the world and has inspired and influenced their brand – Hooga.

The Cantonese have a saying that “a meal is not complete without having chicken”. The chicken symbolises not only prosperity, but also good fortune (“ho fook hei” in Cantonese), and is a must-have especially during festive occasions and celebrations. “Soy Sauce Chicken” was said to have been created over a hundred years ago in Guangdong Province, when a master chef from out of town sought to spice up the way the Cantonese traditionally poached chicken at a famous local restaurant, substituting bland water with a fragrant soy sauce based braising liquid, resulting in a flavourful dish that has become synonymous with Cantonese cuisine.

This makes them a healthier dessert choice, as frozen custards are lower in calories and sugar and uses natural ingredients such as milk and egg yolks.
