In commitment to its new direction of using scents to heal, soothe and delight one’s mental wellness, homegrown fragrance brand, SIX, has launched a multi-sensorial boutique at 313@Somerset. Designed by local artists Clara Yee and Gerald Leow from In The Wild, the boutique is a representation of Founder, Jason Lee’s vision of creating a sanctuary for customers to take a break from their busy lives.
Covering a space of 550 square feet, the boutique is designed to enhance the customer’s journey through visual, audio and olfactory stimuli. The allure starts from the exterior façade of the boutique enhanced with SIX’s signature ambient scent to pique the interest of passers-by. As they step into the space, elements of the interiors emanate a gentle calming vibe, complemented with a curation of spa- esque music to lull them into a state of bliss. “We invite our guests to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy mall into our sanctuary; to take a breather, unwind and just be – in the moment,” says Jason.

Likening the interiors to that of a cave, Clara Yee, lead designer and Co-Founder of In The Wild, explains the design inspiration: “The space references the contours of a cave through a variety of textures and an earthy calming palette of natural materials. The ideas of wellness and care are displayed with the stucco walls of sandstone pink, pistachio greens and soft, rounded edges. The new SIX boutique is designed to be an intimate respite to soothe the senses.”
Zoned into areas of ‘consciousness’ and ‘memories’, the space is a hybrid of retail and homelike hosting experience, with art objects to discover throughout. Like a personal collection, each item within the space, from the textiles to the floating forms are like responses to memories and reflection. “To achieve harmony and bring positivity into our lives, we sometimes need to tap into our deeper senses. The artworks loosely reference Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, inviting us to be free from relying on just our five senses,” Clara expounds. The accomplished young designer and entrepreneur made waves when she was recognised by Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2016. Clara was also the artistic designer behind Singapore Tourism Board’s Singapore: Inside Out, an international multi-disciplinary showcase of Singaporean talents in the fields of design, music, literature, food and performing arts.

Since its inception in July 2016, SIX has been making strides within the scenting industry with an expanding collection of fine fragrances, DIY scent kits, and a home scenting range. From a humble collection of three scents (123 Tribeca, 1724 Puka and 27 ÌŠF Biei), SIX now boasts two product lines. They include the SIX home scenting collection of diffusers, nebulizers and pure essential oils, two additional scents (Eclat and 2065 UJONG), as well as a DIY scent kit.
On the commercial end, SIX has been undertaking ambient scenting, creating bespoke labels and conducting scenting workshops for luxury brand names such as Piaget, Lexus and Ritz Carlton. In 2019, SIX established its first standalone boutique at the newly revamped Funan Mall and was commissioned for its ambient scenting. The same year, the SIX product line was included in Singapore Airline’s Kris Shop catalogue. SIX was also commissioned by our national carrier to create a bespoke scent that was used on perfume tags boxed inside purchases. Later that year, SIX collaborated with Eu Yan Sang to create the world’s first Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perfume, using traditional herbs.

In 2020, SIX launched its second standalone boutique at Bugis Junction. In view of the work-from-home phenomenon following the Covid-19 outbreak, SIX created the uplifting, Awakening home diffusers, where ten percent of sales proceeds were donated to the Courage Fund by Community Chest. SIX also launched a new line of essential oils and disinfectant sprays. In November 2020, SIX partnered with the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) to raise awareness on mental health issues, with the creation of the Hikaru collection. Ten dollars from each product sold, with a total targeted amount of S$10,000, will be donated to the association in support of its ongoing efforts to help individuals with mental health issues.

Founded in 2017, Sugar Toast is famous for its artisanal breads made with only quality ingredients, natural colouring, and without preservatives. Each handmade loaf at Sugar Toast takes four hours to create, requiring skilful hand-pounding, folding and layering techniques.

Offering 15 unique flavours that include two savoury versions, Sugar Toast is set to take the bakery world by storm with its picture-perfect and oh-so-tasty masterpieces. Each 300g loaf comes pre-sliced into five 2cm-thick pieces that are best enjoyed on its own.
An average day at Sugar Toast entails the kneading of dough and firing up the ovens as early as 6am to prepare fresh breads daily by 10am.
The dough is made with high-protein flour specially imported from Japan, a secret ratio milk to water mix, then enhanced with condensed milk for an unmistakable fragrance, before being individually flavoured. LREIT is collaborating with Live Nation, the world’s leading live entertainment company, to create an exciting calendar of concerts, film and events ensuring that the site is active all year round.
LREIT will also collaborate with The Projector, Singapore’s much-loved independent cinema operator, and Museum of Food. Shake Shack sprouted from a hot dog cart in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park created by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation. The cart was quite the success, with lines snaking out daily for three summers.
In 2004 USHG won the bid to open a permanent kiosk in the Park: Shake Shack was born. This modern day “roadside” burger stand serves up the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes, beer, wine and more. An instant neighborhood fixture, Shake Shack welcomed people from all over the city, country and world who gathered together to enjoy fresh, simple, high-quality versions of the classics in a majestic setting.

Asset enhancement works to add new meeting facilities as well as refreshed food & beverage offerings to cater to the growing demand for regional and global meetings, incentives, conference and exhibition (“MICE”) events have also been planned. The planned refurbishment will be conducted in phases and will commence in 2Q 2020 to capitalise on the current challenges facing the hospitality industry due to COVID-19. The refurbishment is scheduled to be completed by end-2021. During the refurbishment period, Mandarin Orchard Singapore will continue to operate under the management of Meritus Hotels & Resorts, the hotel management company under the Hospitality Division of OUE.
Upon its relaunch in 2022, the hotel will feature 1,080 well-appointed rooms and five restaurants and bars including an all-day dining restaurant. The hotel will also boast meeting and function spaces spanning a total of 3,765 sqm, including three ballrooms.

Attention all burger-lovers, cult-favourite American burger joint, Five Guys has opened its first Singapore store at Plaza Singapura.
Occupying a space of over 460 sqm, the outlet at Plaza Singapura is located along a prime stretch on the ground floor of the mall overlooking the Orchard Road belt. Currently comprising an indoor area that seats up to 52 patrons, the store will eventually also house an outdoor seating area that will increase the outlet’s capacity to accommodate up to over 160 patrons.
The Singapore store is the global burgers and fries joint’s first franchise in Asia, and the latest addition to Zouk Group’s growing food and beverage portfolio as part of its lifestyle expansion plans.
“After many months of planning, we’re thrilled to finally unveil the very first Five Guys store in Singapore. Five Guys is an exciting addition to our portfolio, and we were fortunate to be presented with an opportune space in the city that is highly accessible, so that fans of Five Guyscan come together to enjoy their favourite burgers with ease. Five Guys is a family run burgers & fries joint offering a mouth-watering menu made from scratch. Five Guys has been a Washington, D.C. area favorite since 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell offered sage advice to three of the Murrell brothers: “Start a business or go to college.” The business route won and the Murrells opened a carry-out burger joint in Arlington, Virginia, USA. Under the guidance of Jerry and Janie, the little burger joint quickly developed a cult-like following. Customers voted the burger “#1” in the D.C. metro area.
During the 1980s and 1990s, the Murrells perfected their simple concept. Five Guys became The Place to get a fresh, juicy burger with all the toppings you could stuff between two fresh-baked buns. Two more brothers joined the team and as the family grew, so did the business. Early in 2003, Jerry and Janie, together with the “Five Guys”, began offering franchise opportunities. In just under 18 months, more than 300 units had been sold.
Now, decades after FIVE GUYS first opened, there are locations across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, with planned expansion into Australia, Africa, Central and South America. Five Guys’ mission is to redefine the global burger landscape by focusing on freshness and quality. With no freezers and no microwaves, it is built on the premise that all burgers and fries are made fresh every day. The meat is a perfected 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio. Patties are hand-made seven days a week on site. The bread, which is Five Guys’ only proprietary item, is baked fresh five days a week in a locally contracted bakery. The same unique recipe is used globally. Potatoes are cut fresh daily, soaked to remove the starch and double-fried in pure, no cholesterol peanut oil to create the firm exterior and fluffy ‘mashed-potato’ interior that Five Guys fries are known for.
