Paul & Shark is a complete luxury lifestyle sportswear brand beloved by people from all over the world still appreciating the Made-in-Italy value and the high performance of the technical materials used.
Their collections; Men, Ladies, Cadets and Accessories, are distributed through a network of more than 250 stores all over the world. The brand represents the distinctive mark for a clothing synonymous with freedom and casual wear, taking its inspiration from yachting.
The first to be designed was a sweater for the sea which was immediately identifiable thanks to its fresh and original packaging, the blue metallic "can", i.e. a metal tube used on boats as multi-functional container. The success of this unique product was the first step towards the creation of an entire collection of knitwear in water-repellent virgin wool, ideal for wearing at sea or on the seaside, or indeed anywhere out in the open.
Over the years the target has expanded greatly up to include other sports such as skiing and golf, as well as non-sportswear clothing.
In 1872, a young man named Balage Porolis de Silva embarked on a journey into the world of luxury. He set up a jewellery boutique along High Street, Singapore, presenting not only the finest gems, but also serving the best Ceylon tea to his customers. Hailing from Sri Lanka where having tea is a daily ritual for relaxation and enjoyment, he wanted to enhance his customers’ appreciation of jewellery with tea.
Gradually, the B.P. de Silva brand name grew in reputation and became synonymous with artistry and craftsmanship. The family continues to extend the very same values and philosophy of fine jewellery into tea, elevating tea beyond a simple beverage to a premium gift. This led to the creation of The 1872 Clipper Tea Co., whose name pays tribute to the historic Clipper ships that raced to carry chests of the freshest teas to all corners of the world, at the same time acknowledging the year they planted their roots in Singapore.
The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. serves up its best-selling teas, brewed and prepared with an adventurous twist. Top off any iced-tea with its bespoke tea-infused ice cream, or go for a cup of hot tea served with a special something.
Tea lovers will get to sample and experience the flavours and freshness of The 1872 Clipper Teas at its "Tea Indulgence" corner. You can also find an interesting selection of gift teas and tea accessories.

Discover the Breitling Emergency version which contains a radio transmitter for civil aviation use which broadcasts on the 121.5 MHz distress frequency and serves as a back-up for ELT-type airborne beacons. (For military users, Breitling has equipped the Emergency with a miniaturized transmitter operating on the 243.0 MHz military frequency). Under normal conditions: flat terrain or calm seas, the signal can be picked up at a range of up to 90 nautical miles by search aircraft flying at 20,000 feet. The watch is available for customers who do not hold a pilot's licence.

Bvlgari, the Italian luxury maison re-opened its Takashimaya store after a major renovation.
The new store boasts an impressive 246 sq metres on one entire floor and is in excess of 57 sq metres from its previous store split over two floors. It's concept illustrates a strong and new contemporary design.
The façade was designed by replicating a squared pattern made by satiny metal leaves with the alternation of three different "nuance" of gold which creates a very peculiar effect that is helped by the singular leaf shape. The background is made of mirrored metal sheet and is used to reflect the light spread by the stars installed in the middle of each leaf module. The stars are shaped in the same pattern as the ones in the Via Condotti store to recall the Roman flagship as well as Bulgari’s heritage. They are lighted up by a small LED that makes the "star skin" of the façade glow with light.
The Veneziana flooring that decorates the main entrance of the shop is done by an ancient handmade technique used for the external terraces in the XIX century, but known since the Greek and Roman periods. The onyx star, which is linked to the first Bulgari shop in Via Condotti, lies in the middle of the flooring and has the same shape as the external LED star in the store. The wooden flooring comprises bronzed brass inserts and is used as a background for the jewellery and accessories counters. The walls are covered with an alternation of star skin and encausto finishing, while the private room has a new open concept with metal sliding panels that create seclusion from the main store when require. Original drawings of some of the jewellery necklaces are displayed on the external rolling blinds to add a touch of heritage and elegance during shop closure.
The new design and concept of the Bulgari Takashimaya store fuses both eternity and history while embracing you in a mood of pleasurable luxury.

The Parisian luxury patisserie chain Ladurée, famous for its dainty macarons and elegant confections, will be opening it's very first store in Singapore, next year. It will open at the Ocean Financial Centre at Collyer Quay. And while the location for future outlets has not been confirmed yet, they are already looking to open 12 to 15 shops in Singapore over the next five years.
Ladurée's history all began in 1862, when Louis Ernest Ladurée, a miller from France’s southwest, created a bakery at 16 Rue Royale in Paris. During the same year, the first stone of the Garnier Opera was laid, and the area surrounding The Madeleine was rapidly developing into one of the capital’s most important and elegant business districts. The most prestigious names in French luxury goods had already taken up residence in this neighbourhood. In 1871, while Baron Haussmann was giving Paris a ‘‘new face’’, a fire made possible the transformation of the bakery into a pastry shop.
Both Ladurée and it's sister company Paul bakery are owned by the Holder Group which is managed by the three children of 72-year-old owner Francis Holder.
They will be introducing more than 20 new menu items which feature local flavours, such as pandan eclair and pandan millefeuille. These will be exclusive to Singapore and created by their local team.
Ladurée takes a very straightforward approach. Most of their macarons are single-flavor, with a few being a combination of two, at most. This emphasis on simplicity allows Ladurée to completely focus on ingredient quality and taste, ensuring each macaron is the best of its kind. Not only does Ladurée have the most true-to-life flavors, but the texture of their macarons is also the lightest and most delicate.

Tamarind Hill, renowned in the Malaysian dining scene for over 12 years, has now made its way to Singapore. Perched a top Labrador Nature Reserve, the restaurant is reminiscent of the original Tamarind Hill in Kuala Lumpur, preserving the milieu of being in a stand-alone restored historical bungalow amid vast, lush surroundings.
The colonial bungalow, now fashioned with Tamarind's unmistakable neo- rustic charm, exudes a nostalgic and cosy ambiance. In a contemporary setting which preserves the old charm of the original house. You'll be lured into a domain of high ceilings decorated with 4-meter long chandeliers, candle lit wall lamps, modern Asian furniture and exquisite antiques. Enter a opulent mood, yet unpretentious that synchronizes in perfect harmony with the classic Thai flavours Tamarind Hill is best known for.
The restaurant's original layout spans 3 distinct dining areas over 12,000 square feet of space. Diners have much luxury of privacy, whether indoor in private corners or outdoor on the lanai which looks out to the sea. A unique feature of the restaurant is its colossal colonial-syle long bar that feeds the eyes as soon as one steps through the entrance. Where aperitifs and cocktails are served before or after dinner. You will dispose of an extensive wine list and creative concoctions.
Helmed by executive chef, Thiti Thammanatr, the restaurant offers a balance of simple and straightforward, unadorned traditional Siamese specialties along with a refined selection on the classics. One of the signature main courses not to be missed is the grilled Wagyu sirloin and foie gras topped with green curry reduction.
Chef Thiti, a culinary expert who's professionalism and experience span to 27 years, takes anecdotes of regional Thai cuisine and recreates it. You can expect on the menu the duck and lychee salad, a delicious salad that will whet your appetite. And an all-time favourite is the deep-fried river lobster served with Tamarind sauce. There is also an array of soup choices, crustaceans, meats and vegetables, all cooked with fresh and true ingredients to retain all authenticity, flavors and level of spiciness.
Tamarind Hill offers a unique venue for any occasion minutes from the city.
Wisma Atria, one of the most established shopping malls in Singapore, officially launched its new facade, marking a new era in Orchard Road’s history and skyline as the latest scintillating beacon of a shopping haven.
Costing S$31 million and taking about 1 year to construct, the crystallised form of the revamped Wisma Atria façade conjures up the raw beauty of precious stones. Juxtaposed against the smooth, defined forms within the Orchard district, the contrasting geometric surface of the new exterior symbolises the dynamism and energy of the retail concept within the mall.
Directly facing the bustling Orchard Road are duplex storefronts of flagship stores and international retailers that lined the stretch of the new exterior. At dusk, a visual spectacle awaits as the new flight of steps, spanning the entire 123m façade, glow in a symphony of pulsing downlights.
Moving away from a traditional shop front barrier, this open retail concept raises the visibility of tenants, such that you are able to gaze right into the back of the store. This creates a “jewellery box” effect for you to discover the “gems” displayed in the boutiques, while the inviting storefront conveys a sense of attainable luxury to entice you to step in.
Wisma Atria’s new façade is designed to host a stronger set of tenants within the mall to cater for new experiences, while at the same time transforming the scenery of Orchard Road with its distinct architecture. This evocative aesthetic is further complemented by their strong line up of brands, some of which had chosen Wisma Atria to helm their first flagship stores in Singapore.
A pioneering mall that started in 1986 when conceptual shopping centres were at its infancy, Wisma Atria has become the leader in offering an experiential and allâ€encompassing shopping destination with newâ€toâ€market brands, vibrant retail tenant mix and dining concepts.
Wisma Atria’s relaunch is a natural progression in the face of Singapore’s everâ€changing retail scene, this milestone will take Orchard Road to the next level.

UOL Edge Gallery explores and redefines the typology of the Singaporean condominium show gallery on several fronts. Commissioned by reputed developer United Overseas Land, the project for the design of a sales gallery and two show flats of a 244 unit residential development is located at a major intersection along Singapore's eastern city fringe.
Situated on the northern tip of the actual development, the site is uniquely shaped, curved on one end and flat on the other, forming a half circle. The site is also fronted by a busy intersection and lined with stately 15m tall Tembusu trees along its curved frontage.
Design wise, the building can essentially be understood as a series of white L-shaped walls paired with interstitial vertical glass strips. The alternating rhythm of L-shaped wall and glass strip create multiple orthogonal edges that contour in harmony with the shape of the site to form the overall building. The glass strips are intentionally turned away from the oncoming traffic flow but still allow for views ports and entry portals to be introduced.
The alternating rhythm of wall and glass is continued in the building's section, peaking at over 7m to allow for a double-height internal space into which the show flats and balconies face, simulating high-rise living. Elevation-wise, the rhythm also continues and reaches out towards the vehicular drop off, tying it with the building visually and experientially.
Spatially, the design continues to take its cues from the overarching design language, suitably applying it to floor and wall patterns or finishes, furniture and signage. Of the two show flats on display, one is styled and designed to appeal to the lifestyle of a contemporary young family whilst the other is tailored for a single professional in the design industry.
Both the units explore the notion of contemporary luxury and eschew the typical elements of ostentation and ornamentation.

Paul & Joe is named after store creator Sophie Albou's two sons.
After graduating from the French Fashion Institute, she went on to join the team at Azzédine Alaia, where she developed her talent and her generous style. After the first successful working experience, she became a stylist for Le Garage Shirts and after six years decided to create her own brand.
In 1995 she launched her first menswear collection, contrasting strongly with men's fashion around at the time; young, fresh, retro and colourful. This was a resounding success; her first customers adored the collections, spurring her on to create a womenswear collection, which she did a year later. The collection was made up of shirts and trousers to begin with, but rapidly evolved, bearing more and more of the hallmarks of her unique style: fresh, highly colourful, with flamboyant prints and very feminine fabrics.
The Paul & Joe woman resembles its creator, active, bubbly; she loves to travel and loves the luxury of being able to mix and match her own wardrobe, and to accessorise it according to her mods or her timetable. She is a resolute anti-conformist.
Sophie is now developing a specific universe in all her boutiques, bringing back her unique and original finds from the far flung corners of the world, giving each of her stores its own very special charm.
The womenswear boutique in Rue Des Saints Péres opened its doors in September 2001 and is today the finest example of this. Almost simultaneously he opened a boutique in Rue Du Four dedicated exclusively to menswear.
Paul & Joe has never stopped changing. The brand has over thirty boutiques throughout the world, from Paris to London via Seoul to Jakarta and now the luxury Italian brand has arrived in Singapore. Paul & Jo is also distributed in the most prestigious multi-brand department stores in the world: Barney's, Harvey Nichols, Isetan, Le Printemps and Harrods to name but a few.

British label Mulberry’s romantic and inspired take on the heritage and craft found in the English countryside established it as a champion of that look in the market. Heritage and English charm are one of the primary facets of the brand, yet today this has been combined with European sensibility and modern, innovative new designs for the new century.
The bag collections take in a whole range of personalities, from the timeless understated Bayswater, the slouchy casual Mitzy, ultra-glam Daria and the Brit-girl cool, inspired by Alexa Chung, of the Alexa. Designed by Emma Hill, Mulberry often skips faddish trends for timeless classics, with designs that often incorporate splashes of fun and humour, meaning that Mulberry bags appeal to a whole spectrum of ages; both fashionistas and collectors alike.

At the heart of Orchard Road lies Paragon, a high-end retail mall that resonates with the luxury niche of Singapore’s consumer market. Home to numerous international luxury brands, it is the destination of choice for both Singapore’s elite and their foreign tourist counterparts.
To accommodate such an exclusive demographic, Paragon’s upmarket tenants favoured an impressive frontage, unwilling to relinquish ground floor exposure for larger spaces on higher floors. Hence, with acute shortage of ground level frontage and to appease their resistance against moving to higher floors, new shop fascias were designed exclusively for each luxury brand, with magnificent Orchard Road frontage on a much grander scale than before.
The plan also dovetailed neatly with the façade enhancement scheme laid down by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) - the governmental urban planning body – that encourages new and unique building facades to enliven the Orchard Road shopping experience. Realising these aims, the existing stone façade was re-clad in layers of aluminium panels and fritted glass to form an elegant backdrop.
Drawing inspiration from the meaning of 'Paragon', the base façade was designed to resemble a multi-faceted diamond. The new façade articulation consequently comprises three main glass cubes, which serve as multi-volume spaces that effectively address the spatial needs of the high-end retailers. In contrast to the angular cubes, a curved glass façade soars forward, drawing all eyes towards the mall’s main entrance; the juxtaposition of the gossamer net against the solid brute stone of the building transforms the entrance into a head-turning focal point that attracts people and entices them into the wonders within.
Not only did the façade articulation presents a creative solution to the spatial conflict, it also maintained its leading position in fashion and luxury, while improving the flow within the urban framework, thereby making the Orchard Road shopping experience infinitely superior.
At Hijauan on Cavenagh, 41 low-rise luxury apartments are nestled in this coveted freehold address, just minutes off Orchard Road. Made up of 1+study, 2 and 3 bedroom units, the entrance of each luxurious unit is graced with an exquisite handcrafted copper door by renowned British artist, David Hiscock.
The elegant simplicity of its architecture heightens its sense of grace and tranquility. The interior styling is distinctly contemporary, with tasteful and top quality finishing. The sense of space and proportion is palpable. From living rooms that extend seamlessly into the terrace, to bedrooms with walnut-laid floors and bathrooms that feel like luxury suites. A green paradise awaits you here.

The most expensive model it has ever made is the Signature Cobra, at $435,000 the most expensive regular model is the Signature Diamond at $112,500. Prices start at just over $7,000 for the Constellation model.
Other models include: Ascent, Constellation, Ascent Ti, Ascent 2010, Ayxta and Quest. The standard Ascent models come in many different colours, such as: Black, Brown, Red and Orange. The Special Edition models come in White, Azure Blue and Pink. The Summer Collection models come in Strawberry Red and White. Variations of the Ascent also include the RaceTrack Editions and Ferrari Edition. The original Ascent is no longer being produced, though the Constellation, Ascent Ti and Signature are still in production. There is a redesigned model of the Ascent, the Ascent 2010 currently in production.
The mobiles themselves are made from very expensive materials such as gold, sapphire (for the mobile screen), rubies (for the bearings) and fine leather. Each mobile is hand-made in its factories in Church Crookham, Hampshire, England. The company is headquartered in the United Kingdom with offices in Paris, New York, Las Vegas, Singapore, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Hong Kong. Vertu's president and COO is Perry Oosting, and the Principal Designer is Frank Nuovo. The company now has over 400 employees.
To keep the value of the brand, Vertu mobiles are only available in its own branded stores, concessions in leading department stores such as Harrods and Selfridges in London, and other authorised retailers. Vertu’s flagship store opened in 2002 in Paris and then soon after in Singapore. There are now over 600 retail outlets, including one at Wynn Las Vegas.
One of the services acquired with a Vertu mobile is a year's free concierge service called "Vertu Concierge", operated by Ten Lifestyle Management worldwide. It is accessed through a special button, the "Concierge key", on the side of every phone. This "hot key" puts the user through to a team of lifestyle managers who can book services such as gourmet dining, luxury travel or accommodation around the clock

In today’s contemporary culture, luxury has become the biggest blanket term for any item produced so as to justify its high ticket price.
The original concept of luxury goods based on the canons of skilled craftsmanship, exclusivity and longevity has become irrelevant. The humanity of creation and the artisanship of production has been eroded. Products are designed and created to be increasingly disposable, objects last only a matter of years or worst still, seasons. In most cases, it is the paradox of “Pump up the status, pump out the mass market” where showbuzz marketing takes precedence over the intrinsic quality of a product.
In today’s world of luxury retail development, we are bearing witness to the global erection of homogenous flagship brand boutiques of monolithic proportions. These temples of luxury, from Paris to Pudong, have all been specifically designed to ensure that members of the public feel as if they are walking into exactly the same store anywhere in the world. Their aim is to ensure that regardless of city, all visitors to their stores derive an identical brand and retail experience from it.
At Malmaison, they aim to bring to the forefront an appreciation of the culture of authentic luxury, the culture of the artisan and the handmade, the culture of humanity. This is the very physical manifestation of Brandalisation. They decry this notion of disposability and homogeneity. They believe in calling for a renewed sensibility and appreciation for objects of permanence and of the retail environments they are presented in.
Malmaison is the new uber luxury boutique which stems from the ideas of Mr Michael Tay of The Hour Glass. Locate at the Knightsbridge along Orchard Road if features some of the world's top handmade luxury goods across its two enormous floors.
The store not only carries the very best and select luxury time pieces, it also showcases a private collection of rarified Rolexes which have never been publicly displayed before. The includes the COMEX submariner and the complete variations of the Steve McQueen Daytonas. Gentleman's desires like rare wood walking sticks, hand made perfume, jewellery and unique collectibles are also sold here.
Blending contemporary elegance with understated luxury, Oroton remains one of the most talked about brands in Australian fashion today, complete with innovative collections that are rivalled only by the history of the brand itself.
Founded in 1938, pioneering businessman Boyd Lane rapidly established himself at the forefront of his field importing and wholesaling quality textiles from Europe. Gaining trust and respect from industry peers around the world, manufacturersdelivered a wide variety of products, among them ladies handbag frames from a supplier in Belgium, one of which arrived with a sample material that would eventually play a pivotal part in the future rise of Boyd's company: mesh.
From its best-selling French purse model to the ever-popular brush, comb and mirror sets, whatever the season Oroton consistently remained a retail phenomenon across Australia and became known as the brand with a cult-following. The mesh evening bags were so in-demand the brand was even asked to produce a limited-edition purse especially for the opening of the Sydney Opera House.
With demand for the product at its peak, the time was right for a retail outlet with a difference. Enter the Oroton Showcase which opened its doors at the Centrepoint Gallery Level in Downtown Sydney in March 1973. Today, Oroton has expanded to approximately 50 stores across Australia and New Zealand and is also available through major department stores, international boutiques and www.oroton.com.
Intent on continual growth in Australia and New Zealand as well as international markets, in 1987 the OrotonGroup commenced operating as a public company upon the Australian Stock Exchange. Playing a major role in the brand's decision to further explore product expansion, whilst inadvertently cementing the seductive appeal of the brand and reinstating its focus on affordable luxury, in 2000 Oroton introduced an intimate apparel collection for both men and women.
In addition to jewellery, ties, sunglasses and silk scarves, an assortment of other items were added to the Oroton portfolio including leather accessories, umbrellas, knitwear and shoes. Oroton today is a trusted, quality brand unafraid of delving into design classics and re-interpreting them with a modern twist.
Prada’s second duplex boutique in Singapore, measuring approximately 647 square metres, opens its doors at the prestigious The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
Designed by Prada’s architect Roberto Baciocchi, signature design elements take centre stage with walls rendered in green canvas, complemented by elegant touches such as waxed saffiano leather to house ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and shoes for both women and men.
Prada's origins lay in a Milan boutique selling luggage, leather goods, and accessories, but it was not until 1978 that the company underwent radical change with the takeover of the family firm by Miucci Prada (1950- ) and her husband Patrizio Bertelli.
The institution of new management methods, a keen sense of design, and the implementation of an effective marketing policy helped to create a fresh, fashion-conscious identity. In 1985 the company introduced black nylon backpacks and tote bags which were originally sought after by the fashion-conscious as antistatus. However, they soon carried Prada's embossed silver triangle brand identity.
The company's first ready-to-wear collection was launched in 1989 and was admired for its clean lines and ‘elegant minimalism’.
Subsequent designs have been characterized by fabric innovations and computer-enhanced patterns.
In 1992 Prada launched its cheaper Miu Miu line, aiming to capture a more youthful market sector. The company's success in this project was underlined by the inclusion of Drew Barrymore in many Miu Miu advertisements in the mid-1990s.
