After closing their flagship unit at "Pacific Plaza", streetwear label Stussy has re-opened its first Chapter store at 313@ somerset.
In 1980, Shawn Stussy was a local cult surfboard shaper who took his scrawled signature logo from his foam masterpieces and applied it to t-shirts that he sold with his boards around Laguna Beach, California.
As the clothing line expanded, it's raw and modern aesthetic soon developed into the next generation of new wave beach culture. They grew during a time when epochal shifts which eternally framed contemporary popular culture were taking place. In the music scene, the late 70's gave us punk. Then the early 80's brought us into the new DIY music called rap. Punk broke creative and aesthetic barriers and taught us that anyone could have a band. Rap then preceded not only to push social boundaries but also explore the ideas of remixing and sampling These new ideas and territories created a new modern platform for fashion and cultural expression.
With Stussy's success came the opportunity to travel and spread the Stussy vibe. They hooked up with trendsetters in New York, London, Tokyo and other areas of the world. Stussy clothing was inspired by this international group of musicians, skaters, DJs and artists with similar tastes, which helped to shape the brand into an international streetwear label.
Today, Stussy exists as a brand with worldwide respect and independence. With over sixty stores across the globe and a very strong tribe still in effect, Stussy is a leader in the culture which they helped start almost 30 years ago.
Enjoy the full-range of the brand’s collection in their new minimalist-industrial boutique.

The second phase of MacRitchie Reservoir’s S$5 million facelift has been completed. Among its new attractions is a submerged boardwalk that allows visitors to get a little closer to nature. The boardwalk is located near the edge of the reservoir. The plants lining the boardwalk serve more than just beautifying the area. It also has an environmental friendly function.
It has water plants such as the Beach Morning Glory and Pigweed, which help to purify the water in the reservoir by filtering out sediment. There are also dykes and reed beds, which filter out rainwater from the surrounding pavements before they flow into the reservoir. Larger sediments in the water are allowed to settle while the plants on the reed beds absorb the pollutants, so cleaner water flows into the reservoir.
This feature also helps to cleanse the stormwater, using natural systems like the plants and soil to treat the stormwater before it goes back to the main water body. Another environmentally-friendly feature is the new hilltop restaurant. Decked out with a partial glass roof, the restaurant will allow visitors to enjoy not only sunlight in the day, but also dining under the night sky.
MacRitchie’s iconic bandstand and zigzag bridge, which was gazetted as a heritage building in 2009, has also been refurbished. The reservoir has been undergoing renovations since April last year.
Australian swimwear label Seafolly has opened its first international flagship store in Singapore as part of a wider expansion strategy for the brand.
The Singapore outlet, which is located within the retail capital city of Wisma Atria, marks the first of many global stand-alone stores for the swimwear giant, with plans to expand to the US and UK markets before the end of the year.
It was the right time for the label to expand internationally and Singapore was the perfect place for the global debut. The demand for their products in this region is at an all time high. Singapore has a 12-month summer season with swimwear weather all year round, and therefore they couldn’t think of a more fitting city to launch their first international flagship store.
The Singapore outlet stocks the entire Seafolly range, including Ladies, Kids and Limited Edition with price points in line with Seafolly’s Australian prices.
The layout and concept, like the outlets to follow, is replicative of the label's Australian stores, featuring chic wooden floorboards and clean linear design to covey an “Australian beach feel”.
Seafolly have also signed on to appear at landmark trade shows in Paris and Miami throughout July 2011, and the brand will roll out its 2011 campaign and catalogue nationally on July 1.
The label, which has previously worked with Jessica Hart, Samantha Harris, Miranda Kerr and Catherine McNeil as Seafolly ambassadors, recently signed Australian supermodel Sarah Stephens as the new face of the label for spring/summer 2011.
Stephens will star in the 2011 Seafolly catalogue, shot on location on the Maldivian Islands, as part of the campaign and model the latest collection, which the brand describes as its “most sophisticated collection to date”. Stephens is deemed to be the right fit for the label and the fresh Seafolly collection.
Sarah embodies Seafolly and they are over the moon to be able to showcase the expanding D cup market and how D cups CAN be stylish, sexy and fashion forward.”

185-year-old Republic of Singapore Yacht Club is getting a facelift to catch the growing wave of Singaporeans owning boats and of foreign owners docking their superyachts here.
The core of $6m is devoted to increasing the accommodation for members, their guests and visitng yachstmen. Another $3m will go towards almost trippling the number of dry berths to 300, to accommodate boats up to 12m long. Work will start this month and take about six months. It is now full house at the 110 dry berths at the club, which also has 127 wet berths for bigger boats.
There are more than 3,200 boats registered here and given the buoyant economy this is expected to grow by 5 per cent per year. RSYC Commodore Tan Kay Toh said boat owners at this club were "more-to-earth, middle-class Singaporeans" and added that a boat could cost less than a luxury car. As people here become affluent, more will look to buying boats. A boat provides a good versatile option for leisure and it is something the whole family could enjoy.
The Superyacht Singapore Association expects the number of superyachts visiting Singapore to jump from 81 last year to 130 this year. By 2015, it expects 200 arrivals.
Punggol Promenade is a 5-kilometre long public waterfront promenade serving as a key pedestrian connector for the future Punggol Waterfront Town. Environmental improvement works include an arrival plaza next to the existing beach, a water lily pond park, fishing platforms leaning over the water edge and bridge crossings over canals. Application of sustainable building materials such as GRC simulated concrete, laterite and oxidised steel throughout the promenade makes for an environmentally friendly development.
The newly opened portion of the $16.7-million Punggol Promenade, located along the eastern bank of Serangoon Reservoir is a result of 2 years of construction; the groundbreaking for the riverfront recreational area took place in 2009.
The estuary of Sungei Serangoon was dammed in 2009 to form the reservoir. The 4.9km promenade has been designated a recreational space for residents in the area. It also links Punggol Point to Punggol East and joins up further south with the park connectors along Serangoon Reservoir and Punggol Reservoir. Only its Riverside Walk portion is accessible currently.
Officially opened recently, it is just a short walk from Riviera LRT station. Three food and beverage outlets - a bistro, a seafood restaurant and a fast-food outlet - have also opened in the area. The Riverside Walk features exercise stations, designated cycling and jogging tracks and lookout points that allow visitors to get closer to the water.
The next phase of construction will include a driving range and other facilities. Two other zones, the Nature Walk and Punggol Point Walk, are expected to open later in the year.Nature lovers will also be drawn to the promenade. It is connected by a bridge over Serangoon Reservoir to Lorong Halus Wetland, a biodiversity haven for flora and fauna such as the White-breasted Waterhen and the Striated Heron, also known as the Little Heron. Formerly part of a landfill, it has been converted into an educational site and aims to be a sanctuary for plants, birds and other wildlife.

It all started in July 2002, in Boulder, Colorado when George Boedecker, Scott Seamans and Duke Hanson decided to market an unusual shoe developed and manufactured by Foam Creations, Inc. Originally intended as a boating/outdoor shoe because of its slip-resistant, non-marking sole, Crocs™ introduced its first Beach Model in November 2002 at the Florida Boat Show and sold out in two days. From there, popularity mushroomed. Sales poured in. By 2003 Crocs had become a bona-fide phenomenon, universally accepted as an all purpose shoe for comfort and fashion.
From 2003-2004 Crocs focused on accommodating their remarkable growth while maintaining control. They expanded their product line, added a warehouse and a shipping operation for speedy assembly and delivery, hired a senior management team and acquired Foam Creations. Today, Crocs are available all over the world and on the internet as they continue to significantly expand all aspects of their business.
Despite their rapid success, they still stand behind to the core values of Crocs Footwear. They are committed to making a lightweight, comfortable, slip-resistant, fashionable and functional shoe that can be produced quickly and at an affordable cost to their customers. Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort is the only resort in Singapore with a beachfront location on Sentosa Island overlooking the South China Sea. Situated on Siloso Beach, the resort aims to be the destination of choice for both business and leisure travellers. It enjoys proximity to mainland Singapore, which is conveniently linked by a causeway. Besides numerous island attractions and VivoCity - one of the largest shopping malls in Singapore - the resort is minutes away from Southeast Asia's first Universal Studios.
After 17 years in business, the resort is currently undergoing a complete makeover on its guestrooms and facilities including the swimming pool, gym, spa, children's club, food and beverage outlets and function rooms. The resort will categorize its rooms according to the view - hill, pool and sea - and each room will have a balcony so that guests can enjoy the lush natural surroundings. New room types will better cater to the needs of different groups of travelers. For instance, a guest traveling with children can check into a Deluxe Family Pool View Room with child-friendly facilities and extra luggage space, while a couple on their honeymoon can check into a Panorama Room with an open concept bathroom that offers a panoramic sea view.
Other enhancements to the guestrooms include soundproof double walls and a space-saving extra bed that folds into a wall. To provide guests with greater convenience, a guest pantry will be available on selected floors to provide additional amenities, such as an ice dispenser and a vending machine for snacks. Premium rooms will be located on the 10th and 11th floors, which require key card access.
The project is targeted for completion in early 2011, after which Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore will re-open as Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort.

SINGAPORE'S fast changing city skyline is set for an eye-catching addition after City Developments (CDL) was awarded a large, hotly contested Beach Road site, with a winning bid of $1.689 billion. The new development, called South Beach, features two striking towers, 45 storeys and 42 storeys tall, plus the original conserved military buildings of the old Beach Road Camp which will be restored. It is located opposite the iconic Raffles Hotel along Beach Rd.
The project, spread over a 3.5ha site will boast premium office space, two hotels, shops and city residences. The futuristic design, with environmentally friendly features, is by renowned British architects Foster & Partners. CDL said the 99-year leasehold development, which has a gross floor area of 146,827 sq m, will be built by 2012. URA requires the developers to set aside at least 40 per cent of the space for office use. At least 30 per cent of the space must be for hotel rooms.
The consortium's proposal adopted environmental design and green technology to create a distinctive, high-quality development that fits in well with the tropical climate and the urban context. A key feature of the winning design is a large 'environmental filter' canopy that covers the open spaces and ties together the new and conservation buildings within the site. The first storey is laid out with a series of internal streets, which will enhance street level vibrancy and allow pedestrians to move about easily.
