Hom Yoga has recently opened at Orchard Central. The contemporary studio is trendy and fun with a twist of bohemian-eclectic.
Hom Yoga inspires a fresh and modern approach to practicing hot yoga, and offers a diverse range of hot yoga classes such as Hot Hatha, Hot Hom and Hot Flow. Each hot yoga style is unique and taught by Hom Yoga’s internationally trained and passionate yoga teachers.
Hot yoga is yoga practiced in a heated room of approximately 38 degrees Celsius. The heat allows the body to sweat out impurities and toxins. The heat also works to warm up the muscles, which allows for increased and improved flexibility in a short and safe amount of time. You will be guided through postures and breathing exercises, which are strategically placed together to bring maximum flexibility and healing to both the body and mind.
They offer many benefits from weight loss and detoxification to improving your immune system and strengthening your cardiovascular system.
Bikram Yoga City Hall, the first authorized Bikram Yoga studio in Singapore, provides a calm, relaxing and clean environment for people from all walks of lives to learn and grow through the regular practice of Bikram Yoga. They are also pleased to announce that they will be revealing a brand new studio on March 19 2012.
They are there to support and encourage you and cheer you on with their humorous classes as you experience positive changes the Bikram way. The honest hard work of a consistent Bikram Yoga practice unifies the body, mind and soul.
This is a place where you can dedicate time for yourself, relax your mind and restore your strength. It is the place to help you rediscover your potential and renew faith in yourself.
Trust the process and enjoy your practice! The intelligence of any posture sequence determines the overall benefits of yoga practice. Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Class, the original hot yoga, is a series of 26 postures with 2 breathing exercises practised in a room heated to 105ºF (40ºC) in 90 minutes. Each posture in the sequence is designed to safely stretch and open the body in preparation for the next posture.
The Bikram Method stimulates the organs, glands and nerves and systematically moves fresh, oxygenated blood to 100 percent of the body. It restores all systems to a healthy working order, just as nature intended. Bikram Choudhury used modern medical measurement and research to scientifically design this specific sequence of the 90-minute program. In recognition of the unique nature of this posture sequence, the U.S. Trademark Office has issued a Trade Mark registration for Bikram Yoga.
Physically accessible to people of all ages, fitness levels and conditions, Bikram Yoga leads to increased mental clarity and ultimate relaxation for practitioners by building a strong physical and mental foundation. “Never too bad, never too late, never too old, never too sick to start experiencing the most scientifically designed, therapeutic yoga routine.” ~ Bikram Choudhury.

Vivafit, a market-leading women’s gym from Europe, is getting ready to open the doors of its first Singapore franchise in Tanjong Pagar Plaza on Monday. Having led over 40,000 women worldwide to lose weight, Vivafit is now set to help Singaporean women get fit and develop healthy habits in bite-size 30-minute express workouts.
Cecile Jamoulle-Ogren, General Manager and Master Franchisee, Vivafit Singapore said: “Like a lot of women out there, I have always dreaded going to the gym and always had an excuse for not going. The Vivafit concept is amazing because it takes away all those excuses and makes it easy and enjoyable to get in shape. Our workouts are great for women of all ages and all fitness levels. They are also designed to fit with the busiest of schedules. We offer a complete fitness package in a friendly and welcoming environment.”
Vivafit offers members a fun and fast way to get fit and lose weight. At the core of the programme is a 30-mintue circuit made up of 20 stations combining hydraulic machines and recovery platforms designed to deliver a total body workout. Because the circuit is short, a workout is easy to squeeze in before work or on a lunch break. Gym-goers also can jump in at any time which means that members can set their own schedules. In addition to the circuit, Vivafit offers customized 35-minute group exercise classes designed by Les Mills, a world leader in group fitness programmes. The group exercise classes – Bodyvive, Bodybalance and Pilates – will feature new choreography, routines and music every three months to keep classes fresh.
Not only concerned with the effort members put in at the gym, Vivafit offers a total fitness solution. Members will have access to health tips, nutritional advice and recipes dished out by trainers in the gym and on the company’s Facebook page.
Vivafit memberships are designed to replace the need for a personal trainer at a fraction of the cost. On joining, members are asked to set fitness goals and Vivafit trainers work with each member to achieve these over time. Because membership is limited at each outlet, Viviafit is a place where everyone not only knows your name but also your fitness goals. Trainers at the gym know members so well that they are able to offer personal instruction and encouragement to everyone throughout circuit training and other classes.
To ensure that members stay on track towards achieving their health and fitness dreams, Vivafit will track each woman’s progress month on month. If that’s not enough to get you to the gym, you can expect to get a reminder call from your friendly Vivafit representative if you skip out on exercise for ten consecutive days.
More than just a gym, Vivafit will also encourage its members to get to know one another through social events outside of the outlets. Creating a community around each fitness club will mean that members are guaranteed to see friendly faces every time they head for a workout and they will encourage each other to work towards fitness goals. All of this is delivered in a safe and non-judgmental haven where you won’t find any men or even mirrors for that matter.
With plans to open 25 franchises in the next three years and 100 by 2020, Vivafit will soon be wherever you are whenever you need a fitness friend.

Yoga is known to restore vitality, heal and help prevent a range of common chronic ailments. Best of all, it is accessible to everyone: anyone can begin to practice yoga postures, regardless of current levels of strength or degrees of flexibility. The alchemy of hatha yoga is only augmented by practising yoga postures in a hot room. Add heat to the environment, and along with the sweat, breath and development of a foundation, you find the elixir of life within yourself. Heat aids the stretching process while challenging the focus of the mind, enhancing the transformational experience of yoga.
When you begin devoting time to yourself through yoga practice, you find a harmonious merger with mind, body and soul which lifts the inner self thereby radiating a gift of spiritual love. Let yoga exercise your heart not with a physical workout alone, but by giving you the energy to reach out with kindness and compassion to raise the spirits of everyone around you.

It has been 18 months since Croyez Studio first opened its doors to fitness enthusiasts in Singapore. With the first Power Plate and NARL studio tucked away in the lush greenery of Dempsey Hill, Director Gwendolyn Thio and Sharon Thio are now ready to take on the city. After an arduous search for locatins they have decidedly settled on Purvis Street. Hence, this February 2011 marks the beginning of Croyez@Purvis.
Purvis Street was chosen not only because of its close proximity to the heart of the cuty but also because it retains the olden charm of Singapore. Being able to open their second studio in a conserved shophouse is definitely a dream come true for them.
With the first class starting as early as 7am an the last class ending as late as 9pm, Croyez@Purvis gives greater convenience and accessibility to individuals and working professionals wishing to squeeze in a workout or two amidst their busy schedules. The new studio also runs up to 12 classes each day and this in turn gives customers more options and flexibility in terms of scheduling their Power Plate sessions.
Similar to Croyez@Dempsey, the new studio will also run 40-minute group workouts by instructors certified by Power Plate International. Personalised training sessions are also available are are by appointment only.
At The Moving Body, they make it a must to give their clients personalised, quality service, which explains why they keep classes small (six students or less at a time) and their teachers are highly qualified in their field of expertise.
And because they know that the needs of their clients are constantly changing, their teachers often turn into learners themselves too, always seeking new knowledge (through teacher training, conferences and conducting weekly workshops at The Moving Body’s studio) to meet those needs.
That’s why they are proud to be a mentoring centre for Polestar Pilates. Recognised by the Pilates Method Alliance, Polestar Pilates is internationally renowned to have a pilates-evolved curriculum with a strong scientific background that has strong links to rehabilitation and fitness principles. For information on mentoring and how to become a certified Polestar Pilates teacher, email them.
Remember how liberating it felt when you took your first step, ran your best race or aced your first cartwheel? At The Moving Body, their Movement Teachers, as they’d like to call themselves (“instructors” or “trainers” just don’t quite cut it) are dedicated to helping you move even better, through what they know and do best— Pilates, Gyrotonic, Physiotherapy. Because we want you to lead more active, healthy and happy lives.
They know their clients are their students, or learners, but they also think of them as their friends. They stress the importance of making sure they feel comfortable and at ease at The Moving Body so they let individual learner’s goals and expectations drive each and every consultation and lesson. They place the strongest emphasis on their clients’ happiness, safety and comfort.
