Imagine you are travelling in the woods. You are hungry and tired. You have passed by a few inns and taverns, which are either rowdy or impersonal - unless you wish to check into an inn – and they only serve predictable dreary food. Oh, wait. There is another place; however it would take you deeper into the woods and on a higher latitude - near the mountainous area. It may be a little past dusk before you reach that area.
As you amble along the dusty road, exhausted and growing quite impatient, something visibly indiscernible comes into view. A house. It's two-storied, standing behind a small courtyard, trimmed with dancing lights shining from the windows. You hear some soft laughter rising above some indistinct clinking. But one thing: the unmistakable smell of food. Suddenly, the air smells fresh as apples and aromatic as herbs, both of which are familiar and comforting. As you step into Ardent's, you just know this is the place that will suit you well.
Just like stepping into a friend's house, that's what they are - a cosy cafe / bar serving all day breakfast.

Our ‘high-touch, low-tech’ focus celebrates human touch and uses natural herbs, spices and aromatic oils to provide you with the ultimate spa experience.
When Banyan Tree Spa opened in Asia’s first luxury spa resort – Banyan Tree Phuket, Thailand in 1994, it pioneered the tropical garden spa concept with its Eastern therapies and holistic focus on spiritual, mental and physical harmony. As the first luxury oriental spa in Asia, it reintroduced an exotic blend of ancient health and beauty practices which have been passed down from generation to generation.
Like the tropical and sacred tree from which it got its name, the Banyan Tree Spa offers guests a sanctuary for the senses – a place for physical, mental and spiritual renewal. To achieve this, the Spa focuses on a non-clinical and holistic approach based on traditional Eastern healing therapies.
Reawaken your senses. Their team of professional spa therapists are trained at Banyan Tree Spa Academies. Banyan Tree Spa Academy Phuket was established in 2001. Accredited by Thailand’s Ministries of Education and Public Health for its rigorous training program, it is the first of its kind in the country. Two other academies have since opened in Bintan, Indonesia and Lijiang, China.
Traditional Persian cuisine is an acquired taste, but nevertheless will settle in nicely once one is used to the initially strong flavour of fresh herbs. It takes a mere first visit to warrant continual returns to the restaurant when diners discover their liking for more exotic Middle Eastern fare. Persian Garden Restaurant offers unique standalone Iranian cuisine which appeals to the more adventurous palates and those seeking a change in cuisine types.
Persian cuisine is a unique blend of herbs and spices: garlic, onion, saffron, plums, prunes, diced limes, cinnamon and parsley. Like a Persian rug, it is colourful yet complex to taste-buds unaccustomed to Middle Eastern fare. However, most dishes settle in quite nicely after two mouthfuls. The menu provides for an affordable range of kebabs and specialty dishes.
Chef Hoshang who lords it over the Persian Garden kitchen, took up the challenge to define and create dishes that are inspired by the persian, whether in the Iran, in Asia or elsewhere. Thanks to his years of experience working with top chefs.
Chef Hoshang confidently whipped up a stellar menu that offered a blending of persian flavors and ingredients. If there is a common theme to his most creative dishes, though, it is his love for for persian flavors that comes through in surprising, yet comforting style. Chef Hoshang does not limit his repertoire to iranian dishes, but brings the persian theme around the world by combining familiar flavors in fresh manner.

Mandai Orchid Garden as we know it will be no more as it has to move from its current location. It will be moving to Kranji by the middle of this year
The 60-year old garden is one of the oldest in South East Asia. The 4ha garden has some 50,000 orchid plants comprising over 100 varieties. However, the move will not be as big as the size indicates: because the new site for the garden, just 0.8ha will be able to house only 5,000 of the orchids, a 10th of the collection.
Mandai Orchid Garden was started in 1951 by the late John Laycock, a founder of the Orchid Society of Southeast Asia (OSSEA), and continued under him until his death in 1960. He purchased five acres of land on which to grow his ever-increasing collection of orchids. He leased a further five acres of land for commercial cut flower growing, this land and more forms the Mandai Orchid Garden today.
Since 1961, Mandai Orchid Garden has been recognised by the Singapore Tourism Board as a tourist attraction. The Garden is internationally known and attracts up to 200,000 visitors yearly. One of the main highlights of the garden is our showcasing of how orchids were cultivated in the olden days; that is grown on open beds on the ground. A number of plants from John Laycock's original collection are still maintained, though many were lost during World War II.
A wide variety of orchids are displayed in massed beds out in the open. The sloping hillside on which the beds are laid out is a stunning view to behold when the plants are in full bloom.
The attraction of the garden has grown eclectically to include the famous Water Garden, organic herb and spice enclosure, a fruit orchard, and a hydroculture plant tour and propagation garden. We hope that as many of these amazing features can be replicated at the smaller new site in Kranji.
