The new all-suite wing of the Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa was once a barrack base that housed British artillerymen during World War II. Now it has been meticulously restored to offer you a sense of history that’s been fully updated with every contemporary comfort.
| |
| |
| |
| |
The three-storey Heritage Wing now features 62 sumptuous suites and an all-day restaurant. During restoration by Singapore’s DP Architects, the wing’s atmospheric original features such as colonial doors, window frames, high-ceilings, wide covered "link way" corridors and other architectural details were fully renovated to their former glory.
| |
| |
| |
| |
The building’s colonial ambience was also enhanced by contemporary flourishes. For example, a 4.8-metre Y-shaped table crafted from a single piece of Indonesian teak has become a design focal point in the WOW whiskey bar in addition to full granite table tops and oversized "kerosene lamp" chandeliers.
Taking inspiration from Singapore’s culture and tropical climate, the designers incorporated atmospheric fans (as well as air- conditioning), floor-to-ceiling windows, slate bathroom floors, patchwork carpets, natural wood finishes and local design motifs.
| |
| |
| |
| |
You will be able to enjoy the majestic view of the commanding Merlion statue from your room, a reminder of Singapore's magical history and traditions, or a tranquil pool view from the room.
Dedicated butlers are assigned to all heritage suites to provide the ultimate standard of luxury and comfort. Those requiring private meeting space can also request for a complimentary meeting room for up to 2 hours. You are also invited to the elite lounge where breakfast, evening cocktails and coffee, tea and snacks are served throughout the day.

Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (“OCBC Bank”), Great Eastern Holdings Limited and United Engineers Limited (“UEL”) will be opening a new fashion mall that will stretch from 277 Orchard Road to the diagonally opposite 218 Orchard Road.
A 500-room hotel will be built above the mall at 277 Orchard Road and across the road, an office block will tower above the other mall at 218 Orchard Road. Both towers will be linked by a glass tubular overhead bridge, forming an integrated and interconnected landmark across Orchard Road aptly named Orchard Gateway.
| |
| |
| |
| |
With its distinct, arch-like architecture and central location in Orchard Road the new mall will form the "gateway" to the Orchard Road shopping belt.
Orchard Gateway, comprising 180,000 sft of leasable space over six floors (including two basement floors), will house fashion, fashion-related and lifestyle brands carefully selected from the international and local retail scene. There will also be a range of food-and-beverage (F&B) establishments to enrich the shopping experience.
| |
| |
| |
| |
The mall will be connected to other malls in that stretch of the shopping belt by the glass overhead bridge, an underpass across Orchard Road, and inter-mall walkthroughs. It will have direct access to the Somerset MRT station and house the remaining part of Discovery Walk, completing the bustling F&B-cum-shopping long corridor that stretches from 313@Somerset to Orchard Central. The wide variety of retail options in Orchard Gateway and extensive network of connectivity it enables across malls on both sides of the road will give rise to a whole new shopping precinct in Orchard Road.

“Elegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered”. The name Armani has been synonymous with unrivaled Italian style all over the world for over 30 years. Perhaps best known for revolutionizing fashion with his unstructured jacket in the Eighties, Giorgio Armani has continued to define the well dressed ever since.

The brand was established in Milan in 1975 and through it's clear stylistic vision, coupled with a deep understanding of the client’s need, became instantly popular with the discerning Italian fashion savvy.

They went on to collaborate with the Hollywood movie industry, bringing the brand worldwide acclaim. Giorgio Armani subsequently saw himself become a household name after his clothes appeared on Richard Gere in the iconic 1980 movie American Gigolo and he has remained one of Hollywood’s favorite designers ever since.

In 1981 the young line Emporio Armani was introduced - today Giorgio Armani’s flawless style has branched off into a range of collections from the Haute Couture line Armani Privé, to the casual approach of Armani Jeans. An understated sense of chic and excellent craftsmanship are the common threads that bind the Armani World together. Over the years, the label has further expanded into cosmetics, furniture design and - since 2005 - into signature Hotels and Resorts.

Oasia Downtown, designed by WOHA, sets out to create an alternative imagery for commercial high-rise developments. It combines innovative ways to intensify land use with a tropical approach that showcases a perforated, permeable, furry, verdant tower of green in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District.
In programmatic response to the client’s brief of having distinct Soho, Hotel & Club rooms, WOHA adopted a club sandwich approach by creating a series of different strata, each with its own sky garden. Introducing layers of elevated ground levels allow the precious but limited ground floor space to be multiplied, creating generous public areas for recreation and social interaction throughout the high-rise.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Sited within a densely built up area, the tower carves out its own internal spaces and dynamic views instead of relying on external vistas for visual interest. Each sky garden is treated as an urban scale verandah, sheltered at high level by the preceding sky garden and open sided for formal and visual transparency. The openness also allows wind to pass through the building for good cross-ventilation. Large scale High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fans are incorporated as kinetic sculptures that complement the sky garden design and ensure thermal comfort. In this way the public areas become functional, comfortable tropical spaces with greenery, natural light and fresh air instead of enclosed, internalized air conditioned spaces.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Landscaping is used extensively as an architectural surface treatment and forms a major part of the development’s material palette both internally and externally, achieving an overall Green Plot Ratio of 750%. The building form is softened by a living green façade of creepers and flowering plants, creating an alternative image distinct from the surrounding glassy towers of the CBD, one that is tropical, urbanistically sensitive and humanistic.

The interior is pleasant but quite standard for a Chinese restaurant. Head Chef Chai goes to great lengths to use unusual ingredients, like charcoal tofu and lily bulbs, that are visually striking.
Traditional Chinese Medicine principles are applied to dishes on both menus and have been put together in consultation with a Tradition Chinese Medicine physician. Chef Chai himself keeps a medicine cabinet full of herbs in carefully labelled drawers and jars. The medicinal properties and health benefits of each dish are also explained in detail in the menus.

For big plate recommendations go for the Halia Chilli Crab Spaghettini, a signature dish of spaghettini cooked with crabmeat and a spicy egg based gravy or the Sous vide Baharat Chicken Leg, a succulent deboned spice-rubbed chicken leg served with butternut squash puree and coriander red pepper salsa.

The design for this Malaysian-Singaporean joint venture actively engages the space of the surrounding city to form a new civic nucleus in Singapore’s modern metropolis. The two towers are not conceived as autonomous objects, but defined by the spaces they create around them.
The design for DUO subtracts circular carvings from the allowable building volumes in a series of concave movements that generate urban spaces, a kind of "urban poché" that co-opts adjacent buildings and symbiotically inscribes the two towers into their context.
| |
| |
| |
| |
By generating the massing through a subtractive process, the elevations of the new towers are reduced to slender profiles. Vertical facades rise skywards along the adjoining roads, while a net-like hexagonal pattern of sunshades reinforces the dynamic concave shapes. The duo of tower volumes is further sculpted to feature a series of cantilevers and setbacks that evoke choreographed kinetic movements of the building silhouettes.
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |

The buildings dematerialize as they reach the ground to provide a porous permeable landscape traversing the site. Leisure zones and gardens act as a connector between multiple transport hubs and establish a flow of tropical greenery and lively commercial activity, accessible to the public 24 hours a day. A plaza, carved into the center of the towers and integrating the neighboring building as part of its perimeter, forms a new public nexus between the historic district of Kampong Glam and the extension of the city’s commercial corridor.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Multiple levels of vertical connectivity give access to large elevated terraces for the hotel and residents, a public observation deck and a sky restaurant atop the office/hotel tower, while establishing a direct connection to the adjacent underground MRT subway station. Vehicular traffic is lifted off the ground to allow an uninterrupted pedestrian circulation. Extensive landscape areas at the ground levels, elevated terraces and roofscapes provide accessible green space equal to 100% of the site area.
Construction is scheduled to start in 2013, with completion pencilled in for 2017.

Basilico was named after the humble and understated herb: Basil. Known for its classic association with pesto and tomato sauces, Basil has long been regarded as the “gold standard’’ of true Italian taste for its sweet flavour. In ancient times, the herb was also a symbol of love as Italian suitors signaled their loving courtship with a sprig of ‘Basilico’ in their hair.

A tribute of quality and an invaluable remake of the English quintessential culture, they are serving snacks in a Chinese cultural enclave next to the new Naumi Liora Hotel. As if entering a preserved example of Britain's post-war cafe, the snack bar is an unorthodox fixture where you can expect a laid-back and fun environment with food served in traditional English pewter and tins, amongst a few other contemporary twists one might stumble upon.

The go-to social bistro has an unpretentious environment and serves familiar, simple food options. Their Michelin Star Chef: Jason Atherton is part brainchild of the bistro. Fresh from the recent opening of Mediterranean-inspired Modern European restaurant, Pollen in June 2012 as well as from tapas-bar Esquina fame, Jason Atherton will also lead the culinary direction for Keong Saik Snacks.

Other than Jason Atherton, the team behind this striking gem is the same team of talented chefs from Esquina that includes Executive Chef Andrew Walsh, who helms both kitchens.
Celebrating iconic comfort food from all around the world, the food includes Fish and Oysters served with homemade tartar sauce and drizzled with Maldon salt and malt vinegar, Jason Atherton’s modern take on the British favourite Fish and Chips. The Kimchi Burger consisting of a juicy patty of Wagyu beef done to perfection and topped with Korean chilli features mouthwatering and robust flavours of the fermented vegetables served in a casual burger style.

| |
| |

The bistro also serves the quirky D-I-Y Tuna Tartare, where you are to mix in all the given ingredients, creating a light and refreshing dish that is perfect for Singapore’s weather. For the lovers of all things zesty, Jason’s Very Hot Dog, featuring tangy ketchup lime, crispy shallots, English Cheddar, smooth-buttery avocado and spicy jalapeños is a must-try.

The patisserie is paying homage to Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France who was so often revered for her fine taste and her lavishly indulgent love for an excess of meticulously crafted pastries. Antoinette sets the benchmark for the pastry and dessert scene in Singapore, but with her takes of French classic desserts.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Antoinette’s repertoire of French classics will tempt everyone. The Religiuese of Caramel is a visually stunning tower of choux puffs filled with the most luscious caramel cream accentuated by touch of fleur de sel, crowned with caramel glaze and delicate butter cream trimmings. The Savarin, a grand classic in the French pastry context, consist of a baba pastry delicately infused citrus rum syrup and finished with a rosette of vanilla crème Chantilly. Finally the melt-in-the-mouth milk chocolate mousse perfumed with the aromas of earl grey tea encases a chocolate biscuit, raspberry coulis and an earl grey tea crumble. At the viennoiserie shelf you’ll find a selection of the most buttery and flaky pastries you can get warmed up. A special mention has to be for the kouglof; a yeasted bread-like cake with the aromas of orange blossom water specked with nuggets of moist raisins and toasted almond flakes. This is a traditional Alsatian specialty that is lovingly baked in a glazed earthenware mould giving it its distinctive shape of a crown, a favourite of Maire Antoinette.
| |
| |
| |
| |
On the menu one will find classic French offerings such as Boeuf Bourguignon, a slow braised wagyu brisket in red wine served with garlic mash and seasonal vegetables and a traditional country pate, pan fried and served with cornichon, petit salad, two mustards and warm baguette. Or how about some authentic French crepes served with a wide range of generous fillings both savoury and sweet.
You will be sure to find yourself lured into a welcoming lounge fit for royalty with refined plush upholstery, panelled walls, antique lighting and a cosy fireplace. Definitely a treat well deserved.

Situated inside the Rendezvous Hotel, Seki is a modern Japanese restaurant owned by chef Takuma Seki. This contemporary restaurant is one of the latest additions to the Japanese fine dining scene of the city. Enjoy the finest Japanese culinary masterpieces infused with a contemporary touch created by Chef Takuma Seki. A namesake to its chief executive chef, Seki aims to bring to its customers a unique dining affair unlike any other in Singapore. With its creative menu and refined interiors Seki offers inspired modern Japanese fare in an equally inspired surrounding.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Open on all days, the restaurant serves delicacies from traditional as well as fusion Japanese cuisines. This includes the Japanese Pot au feu, tasty preparations of Edamame and French Foie Gras with Yuzu citron. With Seki, one noticeably enjoys fine fusion cuisine without the stiff and cumbersome feel associated with fancy restaurants. Casual yet pleasant Seki has an inviting environment coupled with affable service that lets patrons relish the best dining experience.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Equally genial and laid-back is the man behind the culinary creations. Chef Seki brings to the table a very hands-on and welcoming approach to his managing style. His forward-looking approach in menu creation and cuisine concoction is complemented by his good old-fashioned sense of hospitality. Exuding charm and warmth Chef Seki makes enjoying good food all the more gratifying. Interacting firsthand with the diners, he wants to get a feel of their response to his creations and what they are looking for in service, so that each one leaves with pleasant and lasting impression of Seki.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Echoing the blending of influences from the old and the new as seen in its food offering and service approach, the restaurant’s design concept also combines the classic and contemporary. Set in a locale that combines the natural, minimalist and linearaesthetic of Asian interiors with the ornate components of modern design in the design element, Seki gives an elegant yet pleasant and welcoming ambience.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Noticeable is how Seki maintains the general feel of open space and visibility from the entry’s water feature to the outdoor area, while maintaining a sense of privacy through clever touches such as laminates in the water feature and an entrance foyer that serves as an access point and a divider as well.
Following a traditional Japanese restaurant layout where preparation of one’s food is in full view of the customer and where natural materials such as wood are used, the restaurant is given an updated look with modular wood furniture in lacquer finish at the main dining area, booth dining, mirrors to elongate the space and a swanky sushi bar.
| |
| |
| |
| |
The telltale traces of the sakura designs found in the glass overlays leading to the outdoor area, and prominent in the private tatami room tie in the whole modern and classic Japanese athmosphere for Seki. Complementing the sakura motif is the modern lighting toned down to give an intimate and cosy feel yet ample enough to keep the whole space well illuminated.
Lunch fare gives diners of the restaurant a choice lunch menu of sushi set, chirashi sushi set or the special for the day, all sets inclusive of miso soup and dessert. For dinner, customers can pick from a Japanese-style degustation menu where every course in the bill of fare will be paired with either sake or Shochu or the option of champagne or wine for a French style omakase.

Fly Now, one of Thailand's more established brands, has opened its first stand-alone store outside Bangkok at the Raffles Hotel Arcade. The brand, which started with a small collection for ladies in 1983, keeps getting bigger and better with the addition of exciting new lines and their own show at London Fashion Week.

The new store will stock apparel, accessories and ready-to-wear pieces from the Black Label Line, and made-to-order couturesque eveningwear from the Gold Label collection. We love the Black Label for its basics and sharp-looking pieces that will keep us well dressed from day to night.
The new store carries two premium lines: Flynow Black and Flynow Gold. Flynow Black puts forward offerings that are cool, casual and ready-to-wear, as well as executive pieces; while Flynow Gold is the brand's semi-couture and made-to-measure line.
Priced between $120 and $450, Fly Now's Black Label collection is available at the new Fly Now store at the Raffles Hotel Arcarde.

The Sultan is a shop house style boutique hotel, nestled right in the heart of culturally vibrant Kampong Glam. Faithfully preserved and recreated from traditional Singaporean shop houses; The Sultan retains many beautiful architectural features that hark back to a time in Singapore’s past when Kampong Glam was a bustling shopping and trading district and shop houses were magnificently built with great arches and columns to be used by owners as both their personal residence and their place of business.
In fact, the distinctive building which houses The Sultan’s main lobby is so prized for its historical and cultural relevance, and architectural beauty, that it has appeared on a 1996 Singapore postage stamp!
At The Sultan, you won’t have to give up the perks of modern comforts and luxuries to get a taste of old world Singapore charm.
The Sultan boasts 64 hotel guest rooms, offering 8 different room types to cater to their guests’ different budgets and needs. No two rooms in The Sultan are exactly the same, spanning different visual themes, views and spatial set ups, giving their guests a little surprise each time they go back to visit them.

Derived from two Malay words, Kampong, which means village, and Glam, a type of tree that used to be abundant there, Kampong Glam was the area allocated to Sultan Hussein Shah in 1823. The neighbourhood was also home to the Malay and Arab communities, who made a living selling foodstuff and merchandises.
After Kampong Glam was declared a conservation area in 1989, its rejuvenated allure has attracted locals and tourists alike, who converge there to enjoy its eclectic mix of traditional and modern shops and eateries.

Step into Abercrombie & Fitch and be greeted by good looking store models and staff. The best lookers are often featured in its iconic marketing campaigns, it would be brilliant to see local faces, hopefully.

Abercrombie & Fitch Singapore at Knightsbridge is the second store to open in Asia, after Abercrombie & Fitch Tokyo. Abercrombie & Fitch began as a small specialty shop in New York City, providing the highest quality outdoor apparel, camping, fishing and hunting gear. Today, the brand continues to uphold its reputation for quality apparel, but has since evolved into a destination for casual, classic, and trend right clothing. Their East Coast roots, and Ivy League heritage provide inspiration for their youthful All-American lifestyle. The unique store experience is unmatched; their store models are the best looking and are featured in their iconic marketing. Abercrombie & Fitch is idolized and always cool.
Brand History:
In 1892, Abercrombie & Fitch was founded under the name David T. Abercrombie Co. The first store was a small waterfront shop and factory in downtown New York City. His love of the great outdoors inspired him to begin Abercrombie and Co., a shop dedicated to selling only the highest quality camping, fishing and hunting gear. One of his most loyal customers was Ezra Fitch.
Ezra Fitch was a successful lawyer in Kingston, New York. Restless and thoroughly bored with his profession, Fitch spent his free time trekking the slopes of the Adirondacks.
In 1900, Fitch convinced David Abercrombie to let him buy into partnership in the business. By 1904, the shop which was now located at 314 Broadway, was incorporated, and the name was officially changed to Abercrombie & Fitch. David Abercrombie and Ezra Fitch were stubborn, hot-tempered men, and they had vastly different views about the future of their business. Abercrombie was more conservative and content to continue the store as it was. However, Fitch was more of a visionary. Inevitably, the partnership dissolved, and David Abercrombie resigned in 1907. In the meantime, the store continued to expand. Ezra Fitch was a determined innovator – the phrase “It can’t be done” was not a part of his vocabulary.
| |
| |
| |
| |
In 1913, the store moved again, this time to a more fashionable and easily accessible midtown address just off 5th Avenue. Inventory was expanded and A&F became the first store in New York to supply rugged outdoor clothing for women.
In 1917, Abercrombie & Fitch moved again, this time to Madison Avenue and 45th Street, where it occupied an entire 12-story building. The sign outside the new location said, “Where the Blazed Trail Crosses the Boulevard.”
In 1928, Ezra Fitch retired, but Abercrombie & Fitch continued to grow.
In May 1996, Abercrombie & Fitch became a fully independent, publicly traded company and thrive as one of the fastest-growing merchants of the highest quality men’s and women’s casual clothing in America.
In 1998, Abercrombie opened and followed the rich Abercrombie & Fitch heritage by offering the same high quality clothing and one-of-a-kind brand experience.

A new luxury boutique hotel by Sofitel will soon be opened at the heart of Singapore's central business district. Sofitel So Singapore will be located at 35 Robinsons Road, formerly The Ogilvy Centre.
The five-star hotel will retain its neo-classical facade and some of the existing building structures, while a newer five-storey wing is constructed at the back of it. Built in 1927, the iconic building has its roots as a telecommunications and postal building when it was first The Cable and Wireless Building, and then later the Telecommunications Authority of Singapore in 1992.
| |
| |
| |
| |
To preserve its heritage, some $130 million was spent to conserve the 84-year-old building's large columns and recessed balconies. The hotel is slated to open in the first quarter of 2013, making it the third international boutique hotel under Sofitel's expansion plans. The first Sofitel So hotel was opened in Mauritius in Dec 2010; the second will open in Bangkok in 2012.
With 135 room suites, Sofitel So Singapore is aimed at attracting the savvy business travellers looking for prime location and unique lifestyle offerings. The highlight is the top-of-the-line loft suite, measuring some 104 sq m, which was created because of the way the old building was structured.
Rack rates for high-end rooms will start from $350 and above. In line with the Sofitel So concept, each boutique hotel will combine Sofitel's style of living with a signature design of an international designer from the fashion, art or design fields.
While the designer for Singapore has not yet been decided, he or she will have the calibre of Kenzo and Christian Lacroix - fashion couturiers who designed Sofitel So Mauritius and Sofitel So Bangkok respectively.

In a warm and inviting setting reminiscent of the French-colonial era, tuck in to authentic Vietnamese fare that promises to whet your appetite.
Chef Nguyen Quoc Nam has returned to the Les Amis group where he began his career over 10 years ago with a new restaurant close to his heritage! Annam Vietnamese Cuisine is a bistro-style restaurant that aspires to re-invent traditional Vietnamese food and show off its fundamental qualities in an exquisite setting.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Nam first arrived in Singapore in 2000 and had a successful posting at The Lighthouse which was previously linked to Les Amis and located at The Fullerton Hotel. It featured mainly European dishes with a sensibility for Asian styles.
Following postings in London, Thailand and Bali, the opportunity to introduce his version of the Vietnamese kitchen to Singapore proved to be irresistible and everyone is now terribly excited to check out this brand new concept. Having been offered a prime locaction alongside Les Amis's row of restaurant alongside Shaw Centre we can surely expect some pretty sophisticated and upscale styles of Vietnamese cooking.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Annam's interior is inviting and low key, complete with colourful patterned floor tiles, marble-top tables and coffee-shop chairs that are intended to evoke a typical French colonial look. The restaurant sits about 50 people in an intimate space that carried the cacophony of its guests well.
| |
| |
| |
| |
We expect Annam to set the bar higher than any other Vietnamese restaurant across town and are looking forward to this great new concept developing into one of the top restaurants in the Les Amis Group portfolio.
