The GoDown is a stylized, contemporary warehouse-like space brimming with a vast array of home items from re-found discoveries to new, contemporary furnishings and home accessories; everything in the store is for sale. The concept brings wares to people through a collection of unique items found from all over the world that will be loved each day for a lifetime.
Audrey Lee, founder of The GoDown and interior designer, was always in search of that one special piece to complete a project or simply when re-decorating her own home. During her travels, she had the idea to make these pieces available and accessible for residents of Singapore and travelers from abroad in a cool, fun boutique space. And that's when The GoDown was conceived.
Historically "godowns" were warehouse spaces in East Asia during the age of the industrial Revolution of the 19th and 20th centuries designed for the loading and unloading of goods in transition to and from all parts of the world. Today, The GoDown keeps true to its namesake; a retail space with unique collections of hand-selected home furnishings and accessories that mix genres and tastes.
The retail store will feature new collections of items each month from homewares, accessories and decorative furnishings.

Topos Design Studio gave a home on Mt. Sinai Road a protective wing-shaped screen made of bamboo that seems to soar over the neighborhood. A material experiment, the screen is made entirely out of bamboo without the assistance of manmade components such as steel, an impressive feat that mitigates the need for vertical columns.
Most contemporary designers restrict their use of bamboo to cosmetic finishes, Topos has used it as a structural component as well. The wing that tops the green renovation promotes natural ventilation, provides privacy, supports the infusion of natural light and creates a barrier against excess solar gain. But it also establishes an open plan that exists without any kind of vertical columns.
Combined, these design strategies help to reduce the overall carbon footprint as less air-conditioning is needed to cool down the house during muggy summers. Deep eaves contribute to the sense of expansiveness, all of the materials were sourced sustainably, and water in open spaces creates a fundamental link to the natural environment.
Topos studio's projects are unique in their characteristics and distinctiveness. Every design addressed the reactive environment by creating a distinctive aesthetic envelope that unifies the juxtaposing elements. They create architecture and interior designs that challenge the imagination, tap into hidden desires and heighten aspirations within the partial conceptual element.
