While nature has inspired many man-made creations , the developers of Eco Sanctuary take that concept to new heights with the development of a luxurious condominium that attempts to emulate the ecology of its surroundings.
Ecologically-themed gardens wrap around the residences, including the Papillon Path, Sunbird Walk, Dragonfly Walk and Lotus Creek. This nature corridor culminates at the Butterfly Gate, which links to the great outdoors. After closing their flagship unit at "Pacific Plaza", streetwear label Stussy has re-opened its first Chapter store at 313@ somerset.
In 1980, Shawn Stussy was a local cult surfboard shaper who took his scrawled signature logo from his foam masterpieces and applied it to t-shirts that he sold with his boards around Laguna Beach, California.
As the clothing line expanded, it's raw and modern aesthetic soon developed into the next generation of new wave beach culture. They grew during a time when epochal shifts which eternally framed contemporary popular culture were taking place. In the music scene, the late 70's gave us punk. Then the early 80's brought us into the new DIY music called rap. Punk broke creative and aesthetic barriers and taught us that anyone could have a band. Rap then preceded not only to push social boundaries but also explore the ideas of remixing and sampling These new ideas and territories created a new modern platform for fashion and cultural expression.
With Stussy's success came the opportunity to travel and spread the Stussy vibe. They hooked up with trendsetters in New York, London, Tokyo and other areas of the world. Stussy clothing was inspired by this international group of musicians, skaters, DJs and artists with similar tastes, which helped to shape the brand into an international streetwear label.
Today, Stussy exists as a brand with worldwide respect and independence. With over sixty stores across the globe and a very strong tribe still in effect, Stussy is a leader in the culture which they helped start almost 30 years ago.
Enjoy the full-range of the brand’s collection in their new minimalist-industrial boutique.

Sink your teeth into your first Chewy Junior and you'll know it's not any ordinary cream puff.
It's crispy on the outside, yet soft and chewy on the inside, making it perfect to munch on. At the main entrance, glass-enclosed stairwells and a colonnade are topped by an inward-sloping roof of grand scale. At the center of the roof is a square oculus, which sends a dramatic cascade of rainwater into a large circular reflecting pool below.
The heart of the campus is a lush garden and arboretum with six heritage trees and an eco-pond that will capture and filter rainwater. At opposite sides of the central green space will be academic and administrative buildings to include a library, performance complex, science labs and sports center. The much anticipated Punggol Point Park recreational project was officially declared open by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean on 20 November 2011. Active residents of the Pasir Ris-Punggol Constituency marked the occasion with their Seniors' Sports Day at the newly minted park. Located next to Punggol jetty, the 0.6ha Punggol Point Park comprises lily ponds, a children's playground, a viewing deck and an events plaza. It is part of the 1.2km Punggol Point Walk.
Just years ago, much of the Punggol Point coastline was inaccessible to the public. Moreover, there was no continuous connection and provision of open spaces along the waterfront for recreational purposes. Avid anglers who visited the coastline during the weekends had to make their way to various fishing spots via other roads within Punggol Town.
Now, visitors can enjoy panoramic sea views on the ship-inspired elevated viewing deck that overlooks the Straits of Johor at Punggol Point Park. City-weary residents can soak in the laidback atmosphere of the coastline or admire the tranquil calm of the giant lily ponds. Children will enjoy kicking back sand at the playground, one of a few on the island with a sand bed. Cyclists and joggers will also enjoy the use of dedicated cycling tracks and footpaths along the waterfront promenade at Punggol Point Walk.
Punggol Point Walk is one of three thematic zones of the scenic 4.9 km-long Punggol Promenade. This 1.2 km waterfront promenade and park, will anchor the planned recreational cluster at Punggol Point. The 1.3 km Riverside Walk, which anchored the growing recreational cluster at Punggol East, was the first thematic zone unveiled to the residents in March this year and is a lively and family-friendly promenade.
Built by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Punggol Promenade will link up the two recreational clusters at Punggol Point and Punggol East. The Promenade is also linked to the park connectors along Punggol Reservoir and Serangoon Reservoir, forming a continuous 17 km loop around the north-eastern part of Singapore. When fully completed, members of the public can walk, jog and cycle all the way from Riverside Walk over at Punggol East to the park at Punggol Point. Next year, the public can also look forward to the completion of the third thematic zone of the Promenade – the 2.5 km Nature Walk.
The $16.7 million Punggol Promenade project is part of the URA's Parks and Waterbodies and Identity Plans to open up the coastal areas and introduce new recreational activities and amenities for the residents to enjoy. Punggol Point was one of the four areas whose rustic coastal charms were recognised, and will be retained and enhanced further. Drawn up and exhibited in 2002, the plan was aimed to introduce new attractions that will not only enhance visitors' experiences but also preserve the unique laid-back and village-like appeal that the areas are well-known for.
Similarly, the design of all the thematic zones in the Punggol Promenade aims to retain, reinforce and enhance the existing rustic environment and natural beauty of the coastline. This latest recreational destination is a collective effort from the project team, leaders and residents from the grassroots and Constituency, the agencies from the public sector and supporters from the private sector. Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd had contributed 1000 trees that were planted along the entire length of Punggol Promenade to increase the shade and greenery along the route.
It is not just greenery that has flourished along the coastline. The very biodiversity of the area has been enhanced with the addition of various leisure destinations in the area. The Lorong Halus Wetland, the two new reservoirs and the Punggol Promenade will provide new nature areas for biodiversity to thrive. Some of the species of plants and wildlife that have appeared in increasing frequency over the past year include eagles, kingfishers and waterhens.
The Punggol Promenade is the latest in a series of improvement projects that the URA has undertaken around the island to enhance the living environment of residents. These include the Southern Ridges, the Woodlands Waterfront and the soon-to-be completed Labrador Nature and Coastal Walk.
The second phase of MacRitchie Reservoir’s S$5 million facelift has been completed. Among its new attractions is a submerged boardwalk that allows visitors to get a little closer to nature. The boardwalk is located near the edge of the reservoir. The plants lining the boardwalk serve more than just beautifying the area. It also has an environmental friendly function.
It has water plants such as the Beach Morning Glory and Pigweed, which help to purify the water in the reservoir by filtering out sediment. There are also dykes and reed beds, which filter out rainwater from the surrounding pavements before they flow into the reservoir. Larger sediments in the water are allowed to settle while the plants on the reed beds absorb the pollutants, so cleaner water flows into the reservoir.
This feature also helps to cleanse the stormwater, using natural systems like the plants and soil to treat the stormwater before it goes back to the main water body. Another environmentally-friendly feature is the new hilltop restaurant. Decked out with a partial glass roof, the restaurant will allow visitors to enjoy not only sunlight in the day, but also dining under the night sky.
MacRitchie’s iconic bandstand and zigzag bridge, which was gazetted as a heritage building in 2009, has also been refurbished. The reservoir has been undergoing renovations since April last year.

Labrador Nature Reserve boasts the only rocky sea-cliff in Singapore and played a significant role in the history of Singapore in World War II.
Eco Gourmet Café sits in perfect harmony in the belly of Labrador Nature Reserve. Labrador Nature Reserve is an oasis of tranquility and natural wonders. The park offers a picturesque view of the sea. A path built on the edge of the secondary forest provides a prime view of the cliff side vegetation coupled with a panoramic view of the sea. It is not uncommon to hear songs of a variety of bird species, including the Oriental Magpie-robin and Black-naped Oriole. While you are taking a leisurely stroll to this restaurant along one of the nature trails, you can spot squirrels scurrying up trees.
A fresh dining experience amid nature awaits discerning diners with a MediterrAsian menu and a selection of exotic cocktails, mocktails and an extensive wine menu to go with.
Eco is a casual cafe which serves high-quality gourmet meals. Great hideaway for parties, corporate functions and intimate dinners. Dining on treetop balconies with encroaching jungle - yes in S'pore!
Dubbed Eco-Link@BKE, it will be Southeast Asia’s first ecological corridor that connects two nature reserves over an expressway.
The hourglass-shaped Eco-Link will be built across the BKE to connect Singapore’s largest primary and secondary forests, the Bukit Timah and Central Catchment nature reserves.
The area is home to three quarters of our native plant species and more than 1,000 animal species.
When ready in 2013, populations of native animals such as flying squirrels, monitor lizards, palm civets, pangolins, porcupines, birds, insects and snakes, will be able to travel between the nature reserves to find other food sources, homes and mates.
NParks says it will also consider public access in the form of guided walks on the bridge and the areas around it.

Besides enhancing water supply, Singapore’s 16th and 17th reservoirs are also set to transform the landscape in northeastern Singapore, bringing waterfront living to the heartlands.
National water agency PUB celebrated this milestone recently. Created by the damming of Sungei Punggol and Sungei Serangoon, the Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs will collect rainwater from estates and areas within Punggol and Sengkang, and parts of Hougang and Ang Mo Kio. Together with the Marina Reservoir, they increase the water catchment areas from half to two-thirds of Singapore.
Although Singapore receives an abundant amount of rainfall, it has limited land to collect the rainwater. PUB’s strategy has thus been to create estuarine reservoirs by damming the major rivers to collect and store as much of the 2400mm of rain that it gets annually. This led to the creation of unprotected and urbanised catchments in the 1980s, starting with Bedok and Lower Seletar Reservoirs. Today, Singapore has eight reservoirs collecting water from urbanised catchments in the densely populated city areas and residential towns.
Water from local catchments is a pillar of Singapore’s water sustainability strategy, along with imported water, high-grade reclaimed water branded as NEWater, and desalinated water. Collectively, these four sources of water are known as the ‘Four National Taps’, a long-term water supply strategy to ensure a diversified and sustainable water supply for Singapore in the years to come.
Besides enhancing water supply, the Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs are set to transform the landscape in north-eastern Singapore. Envisioned as a ‘waterfront town of the 21st century’, Punggol Town will soon become a commercial and social hub, with a 4.2-km waterway that connects both reservoirs running through the estate and town centre. Residents can look forward to waterfront living in the heartlands with a myriad of attractive and lifestyle choices lined up along the banks.
Central to this is the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) programme, a long-term blueprint to bring people closer to water through the creation of beautiful and vibrant waterscapes which at the same time provide opportunities for community bonding. Fifteen ABC Waters projects are now open while another three will be ready by the end of this year.
Located right in the midst of Punggol Reservoir, the ABC Waters project -- Sengkang Floating Wetland – links the Anchorvale Community Club to the Sengkang Riverside Park via a bridge on one side, and a boardwalk skimming the water surface on the other. While helping to keep the water clean by natural processes, the wetland also provides a habitat for fish, birds and other wildlife, enhancing the biodiversity there.
Lorong Halus Wetland along Serangoon Reservoir collects and treats water passing through the former landfill, preventing it from flowing into the reservoir. This helps safeguard the quality of water in Serangoon Reservoir. Like the Sengkang Floating Wetland, the Lorong Halus Wetland is developing into a natural habitat for wildlife over time. Members of the public can also go on the nature trails to learn more about wetland, the plants, and various wildlife that thrive there.

To enable people to have more leisure time amongst greenery and nature, the National Parks Board is adding on to its existing 110 km of Park Connectors Network – an island-wide network of linear open spaces around major residential areas that links parks and nature sites in Singapore.
The new 63 km route is currently in the midst of construction, and locals will be able to enjoy afternoons of cycling, walking or jogging along a hefty 300 km of green corridors around the island when it is completed in 2015. No matter where you live in Singapore, you can begin your outdoor walks or cycling trips at a Park Connector in your area.
Some existing Park Connectors that you can consider as starting points for your activities include the Bedok Park Connector in the east, the Sembawang Park Connector in the north, the Kallang Park Connector in the south, and the Bukit Batok East Park Connector in the west of Singapore.
The lavish $100 million clubhouse renovation is just the start. However, there is now a New Course with a layout which has undergone intensive work in preparation for the Asian Amateur Championship at the end of September. The first nine holes of the course were opened late last year following reclamation and upgrading work.
The greens were rebuilt to USGA specifications using Bermuda Tiff-dwaft grass, presenting the world's best surfaces. The course has also been lengthened to 6,500 metres (almost 7,200 yards) - a key factor for the Asian Amateur tournament which will present the winner with an invitation to the following year's US Masters at Augusta National. Included among the works have been upgrades to the golf course's irrigation system and drainage systems and the construction of high-quality bunkers to help manage the heavy rains, common to Singapore throughout the year.
Renovation work on the back nine holes, which includes the addition of a sand cap between the soil and grass to allow better drainage and growth of the new Zoysia turf grass in the fairways and rough has only just been completed. The New Course will boast a number of 'signature holes' which, along with the stunning view of the reservoir, dramatic elevation changes and the tranquility of the surrounding natural jungle will present a spectacular backdrop for the worldwide television audience, along with visitors and players.
The course will be set up for a dynamic tournament. They are looking forward to seeing fantastic play throughout the 18 holes with a dramatic finish to the AAC event with the drivable par four 17th hole and the challenging par five 18th to finish at their new clubhouse.
The clubhouse itself will be the centre piece of the club's development on the island location. It will feature a built-in area of 160,000 square feet and will offer new dining and banquet facilities. The all-new three-storey clubhouse will include a number of options such as a signature Chinese restaurant, an international restaurant and a cafe. It will also contain a ballroom with a seating capacity of 500, a Heritage walk and Heritage Gallery.
Another prominent feature at the island setting is the A-frame building which currently houses a reception counter, a cafe, golf bag dropoff facilities and management offices. As part of on-going redevelopment and upgrading works, the A -frame building will be converted into a gym and lifestyle centre.
The Singapore Island Country Club dates back to 1963 when it was formed following a merger of the Royal Singapore Golf Club and the Royal Island Club. Royal Singapore was originally known as The Golf Club and was formed in 1891. Members played on the race course owned by the Singapore Sporting Club.
As business grew in the area, the Golf Club moved to a new home at Bukit Timah in 1924. Its name was changed to the Royal Singapore Golf Club on November 12, 1938 when King George VI became its patron.
The complex is now known for its fine courses, which have hosted many prominent tournaments. The club contains four world-class 18-hole championship courses, an executive nine-hole course and putting and chipping greens carved out of natural terrain at both the island and Bukit locations. The latter layout hosted, among other key tournaments, the 1969 World Cup and the 1993 Johnnie Walker Classic.

By 2013, there will be a new green link between the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Central Catchment Area. Conservationists had long bemoaned the separation of the two reserves by the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) since its construction in 1986. The road prevented plant and animal species from moving between the two forest tracts.
The new eco-passage will arch over the 50m-wide BKE and be sited at a suitable narrow point between the reserves. Its construction was announced at the opening of the National Parks Board’sDairy Farm Nature Park. Local construction firm Eng Lee Engineering beat six other bidders, including Japanese contractor Sato Kogyo to win the contract. The bridge will be built for $11.8million.
The bridge, 50m wide at its narrowest point and planted with dense trees resembling a forest habitat, could help populations of animals like the critically-endangered banded leaf monkey to recover. Four to six years ago, there were thought to be fewer than 20 of the small dark-furred monkeys – a number too small to be sustainable – but now there are about 30 living around the Central Catchment Area.
The eco-link could help them migrate to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to find other food sources. A hiking trail at one edge will also enable humans to move between the reserves. Every plan to connect habitats is a good plan but how it pans out – only time will tell.
The Rotisserie is located in the heart of China Square Food Centre. By day, enjoy a spread of gourmet grills and salad that's guranteed not to disappoint and by night, sit back and watch the charms of the city unfold over dinner, washed down with a cup of its signature coffee.

Conservation will get a boost in the $50 million makeover for the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. The wetland will get a 38ha park named the Sungei Buloh Wetland Park to help it cope with the rising number of visitors.
It is hoped that the park will attract more casual visitors, leaving the main reserve area for researchers, serious nature lovers and bird watchers. The authorities fear that rising and unregulated visitor numbers may have a negative impact on the reserve's rich biodiversity. The site of the new 38ha park is an extension of the reserve now known as the Kranji Nature Trail.
Under the Master Plan, conservation of the wetland's rich biodiversity will be strengthened, while its outdoor learning and education facilities will be enhanced. In time to come, visitors can look forward to new amenities, programmes and activities to cater to all groups, from students, families, nature lovers to researchers.
A public exhibition on the Master Plan is held at the Visitor Centre from now until 1 August 2010. Go down to Sungei Buloh today to view the exhibits!
Nature may not be the first thing one associates with Singapore's prime shopping belt, but the Butterfly Trail at Orchard Road hopes to change this.
Professor Tommy Koh launched the first phase of the Butterfly Trail a project to highlight Singapore's urban biodiversity, with 900 shrubs and 24 trees planted along Nassim Road. With them included nectar plants, which will attract butterflies to the area.
Experts hope up to 50 species will find their way to the trail. There is also the butterfly walk, a four kilometer trail from the Botanic Gardens to Fort Canning Park that aims to increase interest in nature.

Once occupied by warehouses, the waterfront now boasts a modern park with highlights such as a 400m-long jetty - the longest in Singapore - and a playground equipped with a two-storey-high 'sky walk' - all part of phase one opening of the Woodlands Waterfront.
Phase two of the $19 million, 9ha park - which will feature, among other things, nature trails and a 700m promenade which will hang over the sea - will be opened only by the end of the year.
When fully completed, the 1.5km Woodlands promenade will form a significant part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA's) plan to link the north region's green spaces with park connectors, which by 2015, will stretch to 90km. Currently, the region has 19km of park connectors. URA's national objective is to build a 150km round island route, which will allow residents to walk, cycle or jog around Singapore.
Feedback played a crucial role in designing the Woodlands Waterfront, which offers a green oasis for residents to play, exercise or gather for activities, while enjoying the sea view. Ultimately, the final concept was a marriage of all that the stakeholders - residents, grassroot leaders and designers - wanted.
