The Co, a new coworking and office workspace concept has just opened. Located in the heart of the central business district, The Co, a product of Arcc Holdings, is a stylishly designed ecosystem of affordable workspaces created to support the business community and start-ups in Singapore.
The Co’s central philosophy is to provide a space that brings much more to you; it is a place for collaboration, bringing like-minded professionals together to become part of a community. On top of leasing coworking desks and fully-equipped office suites, The Co regularly hosts networking events, workshops, and conferences that allow you to expand your networks. The Co also gives back to the community by opening up its spaces for non-profit events at no cost.
It was created to bring together people who share the same philosophy of collaboration and flexibility in an affordable space. They realise business needs are changing. Their workspaces should similarly evolve with the newer ways people work.
Embracing an open concept, you are free to change your workspace environment according to the type of task you are doing. The Co also offers you fully furnished workspaces equipped with state-of-the-art technology and business support on top of full access to three floors of breakout spaces.
With the high set up costs in Singapore for entrepreneurs, having a flexible range of workspace options, from coworking desks to fully furnished offices complete with business support, helps start-ups save significant time and money. Entrepreneurs who attempt to run their business venture from home or at a cafe may temporarily save on rental but can look less professional and feel less productive than those with a proper structure and community in place.
The Co appeals to start-ups as coworking spaces and flexible office suite arrangements give you access to more opportunities to grow your business. You will also benefit from added visibility amongst local and international investors.
The Co makes the process of getting a space simple and flexible with no hidden costs. You have the flexibility to rent a coworking desk by the day, 10 days a month, or monthly. Fees include WiFi, free flow coffee, pantry, shower facilities, lounge area, brainstorm room and free use of three floors of breakout spaces.
For members who need a private workspace, prices are fully inclusive of a fully furnished suite, internet and telephone services, utilities, security, front desk services, 24-hours access to the building and even cleaning and maintenance. The Co also offers a comprehensive range of business services on demand. From personalised receptionist service to a mailing address, The Co has it all included in a flat fee giving start-ups and entrepreneurs the full package at a steal.
The space has won several prestigious awards for its sleek interior including Gold at the Singapore Design Awards, IAI Best Enterprise Space Design, and Perspective Awards Excellence in Commercial Spaces.

Bvlgari, the Italian luxury maison re-opened its Takashimaya store after a major renovation.
The new store boasts an impressive 246 sq metres on one entire floor and is in excess of 57 sq metres from its previous store split over two floors. It's concept illustrates a strong and new contemporary design.
The façade was designed by replicating a squared pattern made by satiny metal leaves with the alternation of three different "nuance" of gold which creates a very peculiar effect that is helped by the singular leaf shape. The background is made of mirrored metal sheet and is used to reflect the light spread by the stars installed in the middle of each leaf module. The stars are shaped in the same pattern as the ones in the Via Condotti store to recall the Roman flagship as well as Bulgari’s heritage. They are lighted up by a small LED that makes the "star skin" of the façade glow with light.
The Veneziana flooring that decorates the main entrance of the shop is done by an ancient handmade technique used for the external terraces in the XIX century, but known since the Greek and Roman periods. The onyx star, which is linked to the first Bulgari shop in Via Condotti, lies in the middle of the flooring and has the same shape as the external LED star in the store. The wooden flooring comprises bronzed brass inserts and is used as a background for the jewellery and accessories counters. The walls are covered with an alternation of star skin and encausto finishing, while the private room has a new open concept with metal sliding panels that create seclusion from the main store when require. Original drawings of some of the jewellery necklaces are displayed on the external rolling blinds to add a touch of heritage and elegance during shop closure.
The new design and concept of the Bulgari Takashimaya store fuses both eternity and history while embracing you in a mood of pleasurable luxury.
Level 1 Unit 111/113 Takashimaya, 391A Orchard Road
A private family residence designed by K2LD Architects, situated on a uniquely shaped triangular plot, the Winged House frames the site with two prominent forms: the trapeziums. These forms open towards the main view at the back of the site where 3 existing majestic palms are, and of lush greenery. These embracing forms carve out and frame a middle garden for friendly and private gatherings.
In response to the tropical climate context, the formal exploration took a turn from cutting openings from a pure trapezoid form to separating roof from form. The form draws from the understanding of traditional Malay architecture where the house itself is climatically responsive to bring you comfort. The form of the traditional Malay house is reinterpreted into folding trapeziums whilst keeping its climatic purpose of bringing in fresh air into its interior space. Elements such as the extended overhanging eaves and the double pitched roof are adopted into the form. The extended overhanging eaves are manifested in the form of extensive roof overhangs for the naturally ventilated spaces, which are enjoyed with much shelter and shade even during the seasonal heavy rain downpours.
The traditional double pitched roof is translated into the separation and staggering of the roof form. This split of the roof achieved a play of light and shadows into the interior space. Spaces such as the double volume dining room, the 2nd storey passageway and the large patio are all celebrated with the overlapping split roof and its light play. This slot is further enhanced at night with concealed light fittings illuminating the split. The staggered roof form also creates for the possibility of the penetration of natural ventilation into the living spaces.
Materiality is key to strengthening the relationship of the two winged forms, its space in-between and roof on roof. In the intermediate space between two forms is the main entrance foyer and living room which is flanked with two feature natural split granite walls, contrasting its heavy presence with the lightness of the roofs and vertical timber lines of the house. Timber is extensively used throughout the house, choosing a lighter species of timber (Burmese Teak) for the underside of the roofs versus the darker wood (Chengai) as the infill medium (ie: the sun-shading screens) to create a play of depth of the façade. The vertical timber screens not only help in providing shade from the harsh sun, but it helps blend the house with the lush vertical tree trunks of the surrounding greenery.

For those who prefer to dine in privacy, Absinthe has 3 private rooms elegantly designed for all corporate/informal events. 2 of these rooms named after a prominent wine and champagne, Azelia and Billecart Salmon. Perfect for corporate dinners, birthdays, anniversaries and cocktail events.
Their wine-list despite being predominantly French: they have a good representation of Burgundies beside the unavoidable Bordeaux, they still manage to offer a little selection of some other countries.
A large selection of wines by the glass as well as a decent selection of half bottles should enable you to find the right match to your food.
The restaurant is a contemporary French-Japanese fine dining restaurant helmed by Chef Laurent Peugeot. Their menu is strongly influenced by both traditional and modern French and Japanese culinary techniques and ingredients, and given a local twist with the addition of spices and the use of native produce in some of the dishes.
With the innovative use of some unconventional ingredients complemented by an elegant presentation style, a meal at LP+Tetsu is a gastronomic adventure that promises to invoke all of your five senses.
The décor of LP+Tetsu is by award winning interior design architect Sébastian Lorgeoux of French firm Alidade, who was also responsible for the interior design of the restaurant; Le Charlemagne. The design is purposely simple yet tasteful and elegant so as not to distract you from the food.
Modern and sleek lines, coupled with grey and white tones, dominate the décor and a Perspex bamboo centrepiece in the dining room represents the Japanese influence in the menu. To reach the main dining room, you have to walk through a softly lit corridor, past the semi-open kitchen, which will give you a partial view of the hands of the chefs at work. This serves to pique your curiosity about the food you are about to eat.
The restaurant can sit 74, including a small private room for eight diners. The private room is also the only place in the restaurant where you will have the privilege of watching the chefs at work through the large window that bestows a full view of the kitchen.

Known for its Izakaya reputation in the prestigious Japanese nation-wide culinary competition (Izakaya Koshien 2010), Enmaru’s second establishment in Singapore features an entirely different food menu with an exciting Yakitori introduction that brings a twist to its epicurean repertoire of Izakaya, Sake and Sochu offerings.
Franchised from Japan by global F&B developers PJ Partners, the creation of Enmaru ION ( trails after the successful inauguration of its sister establishment at Laguna National Golf & Country Club. The new premise located in the heart of Orchard road officially opened recently and aspires to bring a refreshing dimension to the concept of Yakitori in Asia.
Mention Yakitori and the native Japanese can attest that the sweet aroma of the smoke-filled yakitori joints is often the much needed stress-reliever after a hard long day at the office. Hoping to exude the same formula familiarity for the population in Singapore, Chef Yoshiharu Inoue, head chef of Enmaru ION, presents its diners at ION with a winning spread of authentic Japanese dishes individually designed with traits of his creative culinary skills.
Having spent more than 12 years perfecting his art in the different Japanese cooking styles, Chef Yoshiharu Inoue is often seen as a multi-disciplinary veteran in the preparation of Yakitori, Izakaya, Sushi, Sashimi and Kaiseki cuisines. His passion to reinvent classic Japanese dishes and to recreate authentic Yakitori and Izakaya flavours in his menu at Enmaru ION makes it an essential destination for all lovers of Japanese cuisine.
Big on personality and huge on flavours sees the impressive new menu at Enmaru ION. The main highlights of this authentic Yakitori and Izakaya establishment includes Chef Yoshiharu Inoue’s succulent Ibushi Yaki Smokey Grill, a chicken dish which features the use of the aged-old smoking technique that awards the meat a sweet charred flavor while retaining the tender juiciness of the fowl owing to a superbly-timed preparation over the grlll. As well as the delicious Sanzoku Yaki, an oven roasted tender chicken thigh that is seared to keep in the flavor. This specialty technique brilliantly paired with Tare sauce, bears the unique nickname of Bandit Grill due to its origins as a dish prepared by Japanese laborers while working up in the mountains.
The yakitori offerings at Enmaru ION are simply stellar - grilled spears of the Sasami Mentai Mayo and the Sasami Ume Jiso, chicken breast skewer paired with Codfish roe mayonnaise and the other matched with plum pulp; Butabara Aojiso pork skewer with shiso leaf roll; Uzura Buta Quails eggs wrapped with pork belly and Enoki mushroom wrapped Bacon all come highly recommended. In addition, Enamaru ION’s house specials that include the Wagyu Tataki Salad; the House ramen with homemade chicken soup and its Tori Nabe spring chicken hot pot broth dish also does not disappoint. A fine selection of complementing Sake, Sochu, Japanese beer, wines and alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic concoctions are also alongside these flavourful dishes.
Elaborating on his culinary philosophy, Chef Yoshiharu Inoue said he believes that it is of absolute importance that we show respect for the fresh ingredients we use in our recipes. This is therefore the reason why at Enmaru, they choose to minimise the use of exaggerated seasoning but instead opt to play up the distinct flavours of each ingredients with well-paired ingredients, making the eventual menu shine like a beautiful work of art. Prior to his arrival in Singapore, the talented chef was also instrumental in the creation of the delectable menu at Enmaru Japan over the last five years.
They are thankful that Enmaru ION has also done tremendously well since its opening. With its introduction, they hope to offer a dining location for the working crowd to adjourn to after a long day at work and also function as a joint for shoppers in Orchard to take a relaxing breather at mid-day.
Prided with excellent service standards quintessential of Japan and a refined yet sophisticated interior of bamboo and walnut plaster resembling an update of the traditional Yakitori restaurants in Japan, Enmaru ION definitely ranks high in its offering of an authentic Japanese dining experience perfect for relaxing after work.
The restaurant operates with a maximum capacity of 80 and is equipped with a private room for eight. Mirroring its popularity with the business crowd in Japan, Enmaru ION is fast emerging as an attraction for professionals and businessmen. The restaurant operates with an ala carte menu offering with individual yakitori items starting from $2.80 and business set lunches during the weekdays priced from S$15.80.

CapitaLand Residential Singapore and Mitsubishi Estate Asia Pte. Ltd. MEA jointly unveiled their upcoming condominium at Bishan Central recently, which will be designed by renowned international architect Moshe Safdie as a distinctive example of new urban living. Located on a 11,997-squaremetre (129,137 square feet) site in the heart of Bishan Central, one of Singapore’s choice residential areas, the condominium will comprise approximately 500 apartments across two 38-storey towers.
Moshe Safdie has introduced a strong and distinctive stepping form for the condominium, moving past the traditional approach of deploying individual towers to create a three-dimensional matrix of homes, private terraces and public gardens. His design provides for lush vertical greenery, optimal orientation relative to the sun, naturally ventilated units, and generous views.
Instead of independent towers, the condominium’s two towers are linked by three bridging “sky gardens”. This offers opportunities for commonly shared garden and leisure spaces, while giving rise to an overall mass that is porous and open. This non-traditional approach allows air to breeze through and sunlight to penetrate, while maximising views for families and for the community spaces. Residents on the towers’ upper floors will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of the lush greenery of Bishan Park. At ground level, 70% of the site area will be developed into a series of lush gardens, outdoor event rooms, swimming pools, and walking paths for residents to enjoy their leisure hours.
Mr Safdie added: “While providing an unprecedented quality of life, mitigating a sense of density and concentration and maximising contact with nature, the complex also results in a village-like clustering of residential units, echoing hillside developments and the integration of architecture and plant life into a singular experience. Carefully-considered design features have greatly expanded family and community space amenities, in part by providing generous community gardens and outdoor spaces on the ground and in the air as well as individual penthouse-like roof terraces and gardens for more than one-third of the individual residences.”
CapitaLand Residential Singapore acquired the site at Bishan Central for S$550.1 million through a government land sales tender in February 2011. CapitaLand Residential Singapore holds a 75% equity stake in the project while MEA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. (“MEC”), holds the remaining 25% equity stake. CapitaLand will be the lead development manager for the project, responsible for the full spectrum of sales and marketing, product design and development, and project management.
Design and development works are in progress and the condominium is targeted to be launched for sale in the first half of 2012. Temporary Occupation Permit for the condominium is expected to be obtained in 2015.
Unit Types and Facilities: Buyers will have a choice of apartment types, namely one-bedroom-plus-study, two-bedroom, two-bedroom-plus-study, three-bedroom and four-bedroom units. The units range from approximately 680 square feet to 3,000 square feet in size. Residents will enjoy a full suite of recreational facilities, including a 50-metre lap pool, leisure pools, children’s pool, play areas, a tennis court, barbeque pits, function rooms, karaoke rooms and a gymnasium.
Accessibility: The condominium is located is a five-minute walk to the Bishan transportation hub comprising the Bishan bus interchange and Bishan MRT interchange station (North- South Line and Circle Line). It is close to retail, entertainment and recreational facilities such as Junction 8 shopping mall and Bishan Park, as well as reputable local and international schools like "Raffles Institution" (www.ri.edu.sg), Catholic High School, the Australian International School and Stamford American International School.

Seletar Airport, Singapore’s secondary civilian gateway, has completed the 250-metre extension of its runway to allow for bigger aircraft. The runway extension project forms part of the airport’s multi-year upgrade project – expected to be completed by 2014 – which will include a new control tower and fire station, an increased number of parking stands, additional taxiways, upgraded aircraft parking aprons, as well as an instrument landing system.
The gateway, which is managed by Changi Airport Group (CAG), is positioning itself to become a niche airport for business aviation, general aviation and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) activities. Singapore has seen strong growth in the business aviation sector recently, with aircraft movements growing at a compounded annual growth rate of 17% from 2007 to 2010.
Meanwhile, the growth in traffic at Seletar Airport is also expected to continue in the coming years, driven by the increase in private jet usage in Asia, as well as the Singapore government’s efforts to develop Seletar Aerospace Park into a world-class facility. The upgrading works to improve the airport’s infrastructure began at the end of 2008, and with the completion of the runway extension, Seletar will resume normal operations with effect from 15 September 2011.
