The New York concept of Chef Designed salad, wrap platters and custom Build-Your-Own-salad bars is now available in Singapore. Just Salad began with a simple question: Why is there such a shortage of healthy fast food?
Nick Kenner and Rob Crespi were tired of the options available to them for lunch in midtown Manhattan. So, instead of continuing to settle, they set off to develop a restaurant concept that would serve a healthy, fast and creative alternative. To make sure that Just Salad would serve only the best salads in the world, Nick and Rob sought the expertise of Chef Laura Pensiero.
Already world-renowned for her inventive and nutritious cooking, Chef Laura joined Just Salad after founding Chef4Life, a provider of healthy and delicious solutions for life-long improvements in diet while still stressing the importance of enjoying food. She guaranteed Nick and Rob that Just Salad would stay true to its mission: offering a meal that would be both healthy and delicious.
Chef Laura designed the Just Salad menu from front to back, creating twenty-two unique dressings and thirteen enticing combinations of toppings now known as Just Salad's Chef Designed Salads.
Every detail of Just Salad was thought out carefully. You will enjoy everything from the food to the music to the environmentally friendly bowls. Shipments of fresh ingredients are delivered every morning, so you know that you are getting the freshest possible meal.

The striking industrial chic look at Jewel Café + Bar is based on a design of contrasts and is conceptualised by the local cross disciplinary design practice FARM. Envisioning Jewel as a gem amongst the rugged surrounds of timeworn Rangoon Road, FARM decided on a raw shell of cold, bare concrete which is embellished with jewel-inspired details such as glittering crystal light bulbs, warm brass and copper ceiling features, glass doors, teakwood paneling and pristine white subway tiles reminiscent of vintage diners.
The laidback, quirky personality of the café is also evident from the al fresco patio at the front of the café, which is set up with latticed wire chairs in a retro shade of blue and an oversized chalk board that depicts witty cartoon etchings by a local artist.
For the menu, they took an irreverent approach to calorie-counting and go the whole hog to tantalise your taste buds. For instance, the traditional French Onion Soup is duly capped with a comforting baguette crust of Swiss Cheese, Parmesan and Gruyère, which is a great foil for the sweet caramelised onions beneath.
Don’t miss the unique Shio-Koji Octopoke, Jewel’s rendition of the poke, a Hawaiian raw fish salad, that’s given a touch of Japanese glamour. Tender cubes of pan-seared octopus are tossed in shio-koji (a fermented rice-based salt substitute), wasabi and extra virgin olive oil, paired with creamy avocado and shredded ginger flower for extra zing.
The sweet-toothed should leave room for classic desserts such as Homemade Apple Crumble, Tiramisu and Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Bean Ice-Cream. A standout treat is the refreshing Pan-Seared Watermelon Steaks that’s simultaneously warm, sweet, tart and salty.
With its wide array of breakfast items, Jewel Café + Bar makes a great destination for a languorous pick-me-up any day of the week. The breakfast menu lists popular favourites like English Breakfast, Eggs Royale, Eggs Florentine, Croque Monsieur and Brioche French Toast.
You can pop in for early cocktails during the happy hour daily or post-dinner tipples, as Jewel’s full-fledged bar serves up a list of exquisite original concoctions and international beers.
All their espresso-based coffee specialties – served in their signature double shot style – are lovingly pulled using the Italian state-of-the-art "La Marzocco Strada" machine and freshly-ground single origin coffee beans from different countries such as Brazil, Ethiopa and Sumatra.
They take food and drink seriously, with a tantalizing drinks menu and a tempting range of edibles.
At the Department, they are fanatical about coffee and tea. They take sustainably-sourced specialty coffee beans from Five Senses Coffee, Australia and a bespoke range of teas, then apply serious technical know-how to craft caffeinated perfection!
Their food isn’t fussy or showy. It is comforting, honest and deliciously satisfying. The Department’s regularly changing menu of twisted classics, wicked salads, succulent sandwiches, small-batch cakes and tempting pastries is a celebration of bold, inventive and occasionally unconventional flavours.
Whether you need a perk-up or a mid-morning jolt, some time out or a good catch-up; a small bite or a square meal, this is the new perfect venue for you.

Respectful of small-scale bakery tradition using natual leaven, Eric Kayser, working with his bakers, has developed his creations over the years. Technical innovations, new recipes, innovative store designs, and constant search for the best quality ingredients. He also shares the values that are dear to him: a love for work well done and team spirit.
In 1964, Eric Kayser was born into a family of professional bakers – his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father were all traditional French bakers. Naturally, he quickly realized his calling for baking and at a young age of 18, became a companion of the prestigious Tour de France of baking for five years. Then, he bacame a bakery trainer for the Institut National de la Boulangeri Patisserie (INBP) for nearly ten years.
In 1994, Eric Kayser and Patrick Castagna, an audit consultancy and training body for bakers and pastry chefs, invtented the Fermento Levain – a machine which maintains natural liquid leaven at an ideal temperature. As a living element, this yeast is taken care of everyday with the baker feeding it by adding water and flour to balance the fermentation.
Finally on September 13, 1996, Kayser opened his first french-japanese bakery at 8 rue Monge in Paris. It was an instant success and garnered much critical acclaim. Today, there are over 80 stores worldwide with 18 in Paris alone and at least one in most of the world’s big cities such as Japan, Ukraine, Athens, Morocco and now Singapore! Products and services in the bakeries vary from country to country, each adapting and accommodating to the local tastes and flavours.
All breads, pastries and brioches at Maison Kayser are produced each day in the baking rooms of each of the bakeries using the Fermento Levain. After this exclusive leavening, the bread undergoes slow kneading and long fermentation, before being shaped by hand, placed on a linen cloth and baked on-site in an open hearth oven. In addition to these fine creations, grocery products, sandwiches, salads and quiches are also available.

You then select your salad dressing, that they mix with your lettuce mix and ingredients. Their salad dressings are all made at the shop, using fresh ingredients. Voila! Your salad is now ready and the last thing is for you to enjoy its taste and freshness. You can also choose one of their favourite salads, made daily at the shop.

A good sandwich is one with good bread and a generous serving of high quality tasty ingredients. Their bread is made with superior ingredients and is served shortly after baking. Most of the baking process occurs at the shop, giving the bread softness inside and a nice crisp outside. Sandwiches are made in front of you, using premium ingredients. For those of you in a hurry, you can grab a fresh sandwich in their cold display, go straight to the cashier and go.
At Fresh +, from the light continental breakfasts to the solid cooked breakfasts, their breakfast menu offers a range of items that you can combine to create the one breakfast you really need to start your day! Delivering a great coffee into your cup needs 3 things: good beans, good roasting and good know-how. Sounds easy? Read the following.
Good beans and roasting: At Fresh + they only buy premium beans that have been carefully selected for their ability to create a full body coffee. The blend is a superior Arabica/Robusta blend. The beans are roasted in Singapore to achieve minimal aroma loss following the roasting process, and delivered to Fresh + shortly after roasting. Their roaster is a leader in quality and technology in Singapore.
Good know-how: How many times have they seen baristas not applying the 12kg of tampering pressure, allowing the milk to go over the burning temperature, grinding coffee hours in advance of making it, and committing what they at Fresh + consider as cardinal sins! A poor technique using good beans will give at best an average coffee. At Fresh + their baristas have been individually trained to make sure you get the best out of their premium beans. Grinding is done immediately before making the cup of coffee, and all other requirements are meticulously applied to ensure all of the coffee aroma and body goes in your mouth and nowhere else!
At Fresh +, they offer two formula of fresh juices: you can either order one of their Favourite Juices, or just design your own out of a list of fresh fruit. Their Favourite Juice recipes have been designed by a health and nutritional expert. Each juice offers a specific health benefit that you will no doubt guess by looking at their names. At the same time the ingredients in each juice and their proportions have been refined so as to create a tasty and refreshing juice. The fruit selected for their juices are cut fresh every day, from carefully selected fruit that offer maximum ripeness and juiciness.
Gene has always been rather selfish when it comes to food. It is not that he will never share his food, but rather he will not serve anyone food that he would not eat himself. The incessant search for his perfect local cafe has hardly produced results, so he decided to start his own.
