The new all-suite wing of the Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa was once a barrack base that housed British artillerymen during World War II. Now it has been meticulously restored to offer you a sense of history that’s been fully updated with every contemporary comfort.
The three-storey Heritage Wing now features 62 sumptuous suites and an all-day restaurant. During restoration by Singapore’s DP Architects, the wing’s atmospheric original features such as colonial doors, window frames, high-ceilings, wide covered "link way" corridors and other architectural details were fully renovated to their former glory.
The building’s colonial ambience was also enhanced by contemporary flourishes. For example, a 4.8-metre Y-shaped table crafted from a single piece of Indonesian teak has become a design focal point in the WOW whiskey bar in addition to full granite table tops and oversized "kerosene lamp" chandeliers.
Taking inspiration from Singapore’s culture and tropical climate, the designers incorporated atmospheric fans (as well as air- conditioning), floor-to-ceiling windows, slate bathroom floors, patchwork carpets, natural wood finishes and local design motifs.
You will be able to enjoy the majestic view of the commanding Merlion statue from your room, a reminder of Singapore's magical history and traditions, or a tranquil pool view from the room.
Dedicated butlers are assigned to all heritage suites to provide the ultimate standard of luxury and comfort. Those requiring private meeting space can also request for a complimentary meeting room for up to 2 hours. You are also invited to the elite lounge where breakfast, evening cocktails and coffee, tea and snacks are served throughout the day.
The hotel's flagship restaurant exudes a contemporary, yet relaxed vibe so you can appreciate its premium Euro-Asian fusion cuisine in style and comfort.
This all-day dining restaurant makes sure you start the day right, with a full International Buffet that includes an egg station, freshly brewed specialty tea and coffee and a wide selection of pastries. In keeping with the hotel's promise to deliver you the best of Swiss hospitality, you can also select from the Chef's a la minute menu options.
For lunch and dinner, Tablescape offers a selection of heritage menus featuring both western and local cuisines, with a soup and salad bar with "live" cold station, or more casual items like premium pastas, pizzas and sandwiches for those looking for a quick bite to eat.
The restaurant's wine cellar offers a premium selection of fine wines and champagne to accompany your meals. There are also themed set and buffet options available during the festive periods.
For those looking for some privacy, The Cellar, their private dining room in the restaurant is also available.
Housed in the newly revamped Heritage Wing, The WOW allows you to step back in time in the bar’s plush and opulent interiors whilst enjoying over 250 choices of fine single malt whiskies. Directly affiliated to Waldhaus am See St. Moritz, the Guinness World Record-holder for having the world’s largest whisky collection – over 3,500 varieties stocked, The WOW boasts an equally impressive collection of whiskies from different regions in Scotland, many of which are unavailable in the market.
Whisky connoisseurs will have more reasons to rejoice with three regular fixtures Weekly Whisky Promotion, Whisky Appreciation Nights and Whisky Dinners.
If you are looking for a unique experience, The WOW by Waldhaus am See St. Moritz is a whisky bar and cigar lounge that has something for every whisky drinker with over 250 choices of fine single malt whiskys carefully curated to suit taste preferences.

Universal Studios, 8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island
The Oceanfront @ Sentosa Cove that located in Singapore, was designed by AXIS Architects Planners. The jewel of the development is the 15 / 14-storey Block-2 located at the gateway to the Marina, a beacon calling out to the world. It boasts a 270-degree view of the surrounding waterscape.
Following Block-2 are four other towers of lower heights that sit on an undulating landscape deck with apartment units mainly facing the marina, altogether comprising a total of 264 residential units.
The facilities for the development are extended into the basement with a sunken valley of connecting spaces and wide swathes of greenery; providing residents places to sit, relax or take a leisurely stroll.
The Oceanfront is an eco-friendly design. Based on sun path analyses conducted, planters, balconies and aluminium sun-shading louvers are provided for heat and glare protection.
The PAROS Sentosa Cove is designed by Design Collective Architects. In a context where each house tries to out-do the previous with newer technology, materials and exotic finishes, the philosophy of PAROS was to undo all of the above.
PAROS was to provide the break in the monotony of what was becoming of the common streetscape of closely constructed single residential homes.
There was a conscious attempt to create and to hide architecture. The dwelling space was created by means of peeling the earth up and tucking beneath.
The space created would open out towards the back of the plot overlooking the waterfront and close off and disappear along the front driveway.
Only a blank white wall signifies the presence of a building within the place.
The entire roof of the house seems to rise from the earth, taking along what was the original garden with it onto the rooftop. The roof top garden is accessible from the master bedroom.

Each apartment at Seascape promises the widest and most spectacular views of the sea available in Sentosa Island. "I first heard about O’Briens in the late 1990s through my son Alex, who was studying Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin at the time," said Hugh. "The Irish sandwich bar was Alex’s favorite haunt and he had read that the chain was looking for franchisees. I was interested, really interested. But the challenge was would it work in my home base, Singapore?
I carried out my own market survey, which convinced me that there was a niche opportunity for O’Briens in the Asian food and beverage industry. Following much persuasion that I could make it work here, I was awarded the master franchise for Asia in 1999."
Hugh has been rapidly proving that his research was spot on. As O’Briens CEO for Asia, and working from a Singapore base, his team have been busy expanding their Pan-Asian reach. O’Briens can now be found in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and soon in India!

A wonderful encapsulation of modern architecture can be seen at this brand new villa entitled Meera House by Guz Architects. This house was built and located in a new subdivision on the adjacent island of Sentosa to Singapore.
The plots on the island of Sentosa are not large and neighboring buildings are built close to the sides of each house. Thus their strategy was to build a solid wall to each side neighbor to provide privacy where possible, while creating a central light and stair well which would funnel the sea breeze through the centre of the building.
The front and rear of the building both have terraces backing onto each other allowing each storey to have visual or actual access to greenery. The intention was to try to allow each roof garden provide a base for the storey above allowing the layered effect to make each storey feel like it was a single storey dwelling sitting in a garden.
Each of the stories in the Meera House has been designed so that it appears to be a single story at ground level looking out on a grass lawn, as if it is situated at ground level. This makes for very grounding and human-scaled design focused around each garden.
Rimming each lawn is very proper British squared-off planting areas that echo Singapore’s colonial roots, and mitigating the view of the burgeoning growth of the city, seen across the bay.
Under the Meera House is a cleverly engineered cooling feature that Guz pioneered in the Fish House, and proved to be a workable solution to reduce energy use.
This underwater room centered beneath the house is cooled by the swimming pool and provides a very unique thermal sink to naturally moderate the temperature in the house, reducing the need for energy-wasting air conditioning. As far as we know, only Guz Architects makes double use of a swimming pool to reduce energy use in this way.
What a wonderful architecture idea and a call to sustainability as well!

Design proposal for a 620-metre long public pedestrian boardwalk complete with commercial infrastructure between mainland Singapore and the new integrated resort at Sentosa island. The design brief called for a network of covered travellators as a 'fast-track' mode of transport across the waterway, and this key feature is integrated into the overall development by introducing a continuous canopy with a flowing silhouette facilitating natural cross-ventilation. A service corridor tucked beneath the travellator platform effectively screens off the back-of-house from public view.
It will also feature five different themed gardens, from mangrove, rock garden, terrain and hill, coastal flora to rainforest. Work on this $70-million structure is expected to be completed by the end of January.

An innovative look at the history of the Maritime Silk Route
The Maritime Xperiential Museum will take you back in time to one of the greatest eras in history: It is here that the tale of maritime adventurers, sea pirates, and the growth of sea trade between Asia, the Middle East and Europe is told. The museum provides a fascinating look at the history of the Maritime Silk Route along the Strait of Malacca and Asia's greatest ports and coastal cities from 9th to 19th century, when explorers discovered and opened up trade new maritime routes.
The museum's centerpiece is a huge 360-degree multimedia theatre, where visitors "board" an Arabia-bound sailing ship docked near Singapore 1,100 years ago. Laden with cargo, the ship runs into a storm. The sea roars, the skies darken and the ship rolls, pitches and turns. Lights dim as the vessel sinks, with "passengers" also experiencing that sinking feeling as the theatre floor descends. When the lights finally come on, the ship's passengers find themselves in the depths of the ocean, up close with the shipwreck and magnificent marine life. Get ready to set sail with the Maritime Experiential Museum's tales of Asia's legendary seafarers.
