Violet Oon's Kitchen is a new local Bistro serving scrumptious comfort food helmed by Singapore's food ambassador Violet Oon.
Violet Oon made her name as a food columnist in the late 1980s and was later appointed a food ambassador by the Singapore Tourism Board. Her work has led to appearances on local and foreign television programs and she is also the author of three cookbooks.
Throughout all her years of travel and living abroad, Violet’s culinary passion has unabashedly remained with Singapore. As such, she has brought to us the spoils of cuisines discovered abroad and married those gems with her beloved native Singaporean cuisine.
Violet Oon's Kitchen is a local bistro with a twist. Their menu includes her signature Nyonya fare, Shepherds Pie and interpretations of much loved Singapore favorites that she would serve at her own table.
The bistro also offers a delectable variety of refreshing drinks and alcoholic beverages that have been carefully selected and curated to match the menu, including a unique Guava smoothie and Peanut Butter Milkshake with Reese's pieces.

Complimentary Serving of Toro Sashimi (Tuna Belly), Nama Kaki (Fresh Oyster) & Taraba Kani (King Crab) with every Ala-Carte Buffet Dinner. The Salmon Belly and Shin Yuu Special Aburi Sushi (Salmon) are rumoured to be absolutely divine and we hear that the Shin Yuu Special Aburi Sushi is the nicest sushi ever eaten in Singapore: apparently it's got a perfect, flawless texture that simply melts in your mouth.
The Wafu Steak is another dish that sets this restaurant apart from all the other Japanese venues around town. It's extraordinarily soft and tender and again simply melts in your mouth! Sashimi Moriawase has six different kinds of sashimi; Maguro(tuna), Hiramasa (kingfish), Shake (salmon), Mekajiki (swordfish) and tako (octopus), all of which are to die for!
The service here is second to none at Shin Yuu and we especially appreciated the constant refilling of green tea. The staff also offers to change your plate to a clean one every so often so that is nice touch that didn't go unnoticed.
Conscious coffee. Gratifying global comfort food. Delectable café dining by day, handcrafted cocktails by night - all set to a sublime soundtrack.
Oriole Café & Bar makes a great destination for all-day casual dining and drinks. Here, diners can indulge in affordable “global comfort food”, matched by an extensive bar menu of quality coffee beverages and cocktails. Owner Keith Loh, opened Oriole because he is an avid coffee lover and saw an opportunity for an all-day café and bar – akin to those in Europe – which offers quality coffee beverages and cocktails.
Spurred on by his passion, Keith came in first at the Singapore National Barista Championships (SNBC) in February 2010 and was second place in 2008. John Ting (SNBC 1st ’09, ’08), is currently manager of coffee operations at Oriole Coffee Roasters. Together, they have created a thoughtful selection of quality coffee beverages, featuring a choice of Oriole’s espresso blend or seasonal single origins.
“I hope that by serving quality ‘honest’ coffee at our outlets by dedicated, professional and properly-trained baristas, we can fill this niche in the café market in Singapore,” says Keith. Apart from the regular espresso, macchiato and cappuccino, coffee lovers will be delighted with other Oriole specials - which are double ristretto servings of the Oriole espresso blend, as well as some of their winning coffee creations. The full bar menu also carries a variety of teas, milkshakes, sodas, juices, beers, wines and Oriole’s signature cocktails, so guests can pop in anytime during the day for a quick cuppa or tipple.
Besides its substantial drinks list, the spacious dining café is the ideal place for breezy lunches, quick coffee breaks and relaxed dinners. Oriole has a warm and inviting ambience, featuring dazzling brass chandeliers, leather-upholstered booth seats, and a long marble-top bar counter. In the evening, Oriole morphs into a chic and lively watering hole that serves up specialty cocktails and an eclectic music selection.
