Synonymous with its name, Cups N Canvas is all about the harmony of art and coffee, in a café-studio setting coupled with elements of fun, vibrancy and homeliness.
Its name was born out of an artist’s personal experience, where he often finds himself late at night, surrounded with empty cups of coffee around his work table while furiously painting away on a canvas due for submission. This sight is all too familiar for the avid artists out there.
Cups N Canvas welcomes anyone who simply enjoys artisanal coffee and good old comfort food to drop by this nesting place, located along the extended arts belt of the city. With its rustic charm as seen from its cozy interior, Cups N Canvas seeks to revive the creative and fun-loving side of you, who may be robotized by the fast-paced, mundane city-dwelling lives from time to time.
From 5 seemingly different individuals with diverse backgrounds: a compulsive artist, a star architect, a veteran designer and 2 business graduates in their early 20s, there came an uncanny desire to share their love for art, coffee and food. Hence, the idea of a café-studio began its conceptualization which came to realization when the space of an old conservatory shop house was available.
Drop by for some seriously good coffee, comfort food and have a go at your artistic potential.
The name stems from the legendary lost continent of MU, coined by 19th century traveller and writer Augustus Le Plongeon. MU also refers to the Japanese word “ç„¡” which means “nothing” reflected by the bare studio-like concept of the space.
Stepping into the parlour invokes an Alice-in-Wonderland experience as you tunnel your way through an exposed red brick stairwell to find yourself greeted by a whole new whimsical world. MU is furnished with a capricious mishmash of furniture- wooden garden benches lie next to elaborate iron wrought chairs, a framed pop-culture poster suspends above an antique chest of dresser drawers. White-washed walls and ceilings coupled with hanging stage lights create a studio-like atmosphere that in turn draws your attention to the details of the furnishings.
MU serves up an array of gourmet burgers that are made daily and never frozen. Bite into the No. 11 that’s packed with creamy chunks of avocado. Crisp iceberg lettuce, fresh onions and ripened tomatoes lend the burger a satisfying crunch and topped off with smokiness from sapid strips of bacon. Other highlights include the No. 29 with juicy Portobello mushroom and No. 2 that’s spiced with paprika and jalapenos. Each burger comes accompanied by a side of tangy California garlic fries for you to nosh on. Sweet endings come in the form of delectable pastries and tarts. Signature pastries include the Lemon Meringue Tart and Lemon and Hazelnut Praline Mousse.
Picking your poison will be a great feat when faced with MU’s intriguing selection of cocktails. The Eugenia is made with a fragrant Hibiscus tea base complemented with tropical notes of passion fruit and grapefruit, the punch in the drink comes from generous shots of Tanqueray Ten and MU’s own homemade Limoncello.
MU is not just a café, neither a studio and nor a boutique. MU is about delivering a lifestyle for those who seek it. It is a sanctuary for the weary, inspiration to the uninspired, a blank canvas for the imaginative.

The twin tower of ‘V on Shenton’ is comprised of a 23-storey office building and a 53-storey residential tower, with the dual programming of the building highlighted through its massing. The office tower corresponds to the scale of the surrounding buildings and the street, while the residential tower rises up to distinguish itself from the neighbouring buildings. Above the third sky lobby the unit mix of the residential tower changes with a subtle display of its split core.
Just as the office and residential towers are of the same family of forms, so do their facades originate from the same family of patterns. The basic shape of the hexagon is used to create patterns that increase the performance of the facades with angles and shading devices that are responsive to the climatic conditions of Singapore. Along with systematic material variations, these geometric panels add texture and cohesion to the building, whilst reflecting light and pocketing shade. The texture and volume of the facade maintain the comfort of those living and working in the residential and office buildings. Shading devices and high-performance glass develop a sustainable and liveable facade.
Each tower is framed by "chamfers"; a line that unifies the composition of the residential tower, the office tower and the plinth. During daytime the chamfer appears smooth in contrast to the textured surfaces of the towers. At night the chamfer lights up as a continuous line framing building.
The office lobby is divided into a reception area and a large café which extends along the view corridor to create a lively atmosphere in the public areas.
The sky lobbies and the sky garden are an integral part of ‘V on Shenton’ and provide 360 degree views of Singapore. The most ample and diverse of the three sky gardens covers the entire 8th storey of the development. You are given even greater privacy combined with views of the city or the ocean. The penthouse levels also have exclusive access to the outdoor roof terraces.
W Singapore was recently inaugurated on Sentosa Cove, the island remixes urban culture with glowing casinos, untamed nature, private berths and ivory beaches.
You will have anything you need. Work out in the gym or splash at "Wet", their outdoor pool, then recharge at "Away Spa". Hang out on the Great Room terrace with marina views. Sample innovative sips at "Woobar" or creative tastes at the kitchen table restaurant.
Take your pick of their 240 colorful guest rooms and suites. All house a soothing rainforest shower and separate bathtub, and some even offer ocean views. They’re also fully wired with Wi-Fi, top technology and entertainment facilities.
Situated just off the southern tip of Singapore, the island’s vibrant beach bars alternate with chic restaurants, indulgent spas, and tempting attractions, like Universal Studios or the casino at Resorts World Sentosa.
The lush landscapes of Rochester Park and Dempsey Hill provide natural urban oases while the Singapore Zoo'snight safari offers a chance to get up close and personal to wildlife.

The Maritime Xperiential Museum is an iconic structure that draws its inspiration from sea-going vessels and thus embodies the stories contained in the exhibits and programs presented inside. Throughout the day, the shadows and dappled light cast by the ribbed frame enlivens the interior exhibits. The interactive exhibits and the circular 300-seat Typhoon Theater, created by the international designer Ralph Appelbaum, provide you a wide variety of experiences. The exhibit focuses on the maritime Silk Route, which historically stretched from Southeast Asia to Oman.
The Museum is set back from the water’s edge by an esplanade with a covered pedestrian loggia that allows you to enjoy the view of the mainland across the bay. At night, when viewed from the water, the glassy facades of the Museum reveals the brightly-lit interior, becoming a beacon on the water and a landmark on the horizon.
The Museum and Marina are thematically linked to the adjacent outdoor Marine Life Park and form a rich experience focused on the sea, marine life and maritime experiences. Along the waterfront at the base of Universal Plaza is the Showplace Theater, with large stone steps creating a seating area for 2,000 people. With views across the bay to the main island, this is the location of the Crane Dance, a nightly sound and light show in the water that epitomizes the fun and drama of Resorts World.

The 800,000 sq ft campus, including a purpose-built 12-storey headquarters building, will play a central role in the Mediapolis media hub in Buona Vista. MediaCorp being Singapore’s leading media company.
The work on the new broadcasting centre is the second major media sector contract for Web Structures in the past 12 months.
Mediacorp’s Mediapolis development includes two large studios, post production facilities, news gathering and broadcasting facilities, a 1,600-seater theatre and office space designed to provide maximum interaction between staff and encourage creativity. The "fenceless campus" will be open to the public and visitors will be able see a drama or news broadcast and visit cafes, restaurants and gift shops.
Due to the demanding architectural intent and resulting structural design, creative use of materials is essential to minimise the environmental impact of the building’s structural frame. Web Structures will also use its experience to reduce the carbon footprint of the new broadcasting centre.
The embodied carbon emissions associated with the structure will be kept to minimum by using high quantities of recycled cement and aggregates as well as innovative void-forming techniques, which help to speed up construction as well as reducing the materials required.

Universal Studios Singapore announced today that it will debut the world’s first Transformers ride this December, allowing its guests to be among the first to experience the blockbuster theme park attraction, aptly named Transformers The Ride. Based on the iconic brand from Hasbro and the popular film franchise directed by Michael Bay, who is also the creative consultant for the thrill ride, it will tell an original Transformers tale using realistic high definition 3D media, sophisticated visual effects, and one of the most elaborate roaming flight simulator systems ever integrated into a ride-car vehicle.
Setting a new standard in immersive theme park attractions, Transformers The Ride brings to life the story of the battle between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Deceptions. Guests will be transported into the world of Transformers as members of the Human-Autobot alliance called N.E.S.T., giving them the chance to ‘Live The Movies™’ and putting them right in the thick of the action protecting the Allspark from the Deceptions.
The extension of the Transformers movie franchise into a theme park thrill ride is an exciting part of the natural progression. This blockbuster, which made waves around the world with its stunning special effects and non-stop action, is the perfect recipe for a dynamic, thrilling theme park ride like none before it. This ride is truly one of a kind, pushing the boundaries of hyperrealism. Universal Studios and Resorts World are proud to continue the traditions of partnering with filmmakers to bring movie magic to our attractions.
Working with the immensely talented director Michael Bay as the ride’s creative consultant has been extraordinary. Transformers The Ride will tap into the larger-than-life characters and deliver an epic ride experience of a lifetime, thrilling guests from around the world when it opens at Universal Studios Singapore in December 2011 and Universal Studios Hollywood in Spring 2012.
Licensed from Hasbro, Inc. and in association with Dreamworks SKG, the attraction also enlisted the award-winning Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a division of Lucasfilm Ltd., which created the visual effects for the movie franchise, to produce ground-breaking visionary special effects and 3-D images exclusively for the ride.
Transformers The Ride at Universal Studios Singapore, Southeast Asia’s first and only Universal Studios theme park, will reside in the Sci-Fi City zone, which is also currently home to the world’s tallest dueling roller coaster – Battlestar Galactica: Human and Battlestar Galactica: Cylon.

Media group, MediaCorp, is moving out of its premises at Caldecott Hill. By 2015, it will be located at the new Mediapolis@one-north in Buona Vista. MediaCorp will be the anchor tenant at Mediapolis, and occupy 1.5 hectares of land and a built-up area of 79,500 square metres.
The 19-hectare Mediapolis is being promoted as a digital media hub and is expected to be completed by 2020. The broadcaster could also extend its facilities and services to other production houses for greater synergies and possible cost benefits. The infocomm infrastructure at Mediapolis, which includes a high-speed network and high density storage systems, will be a lure for digital content companies.
In 2006, MediaCorp had announced its decision to relocate to a site at Bukit Batok, but the plan was shelved due to high construction costs and the onset of the economic crisis. The move to a new campus gained traction as the economy improved and new options presented themselves.
The design of MediaCorp’s new complex will be high-rise in nature, with television studios and theatres occupying the lower floors. The move to one-north will be carried in phases, and is expected to be completed by mid-2015.
When completed in 2020, Mediapolis is envisionedto have movie studios, digital production and broadcast facilities, research labs, games and animation studios, offices and service apartments.

Purvis Street was chosen not only because of its close proximity to the heart of the cuty but also because it retains the olden charm of Singapore. Being able to open their second studio in a conserved shophouse is definitely a dream come true for them.
With the first class starting as early as 7am an the last class ending as late as 9pm, Croyez@Purvis gives greater convenience and accessibility to individuals and working professionals wishing to squeeze in a workout or two amidst their busy schedules. Universal Studios just announced that Battlestar Galactica, a signature attraction in the Sci-Fi zone, will reopen to the public on February 21 2011.
Prior to February 21, Universal Studios Singapore will host a series of special event, including dedicated ride access ties for team members of Resorts World Sentosa and invited guests from Panasonic, the ride's sponsor, as well as for annual pass holders. During this period, park guests may also be invited to ride on the Battlestar Galactica as operational procedures are refined.
Resorts World promote Battlestar Galactica as their signature and most prominent ride at Universal Studios Singapore and are excited about it taking to the skies again. They expect sellout crowds and are advising guests who have been waiting for Battlestar Galactica to book their February tickets in advance.
Battlestar Galactica, themed after the hit TV show about an on-going battle between Cyclons and Humans, is comprised of both the suspended 'Cyclon' coaster and the seated 'Human' coaster that chase each other on twisted integrated tracks. Riders on both coasters experience unbelieveable thrills as they zoom, loop, turn and narrowly avoid collision.
The popular ride was closed shortly after the park's opening in March last year when a ride component failure was discovered on the 'Human' coaster during a routine safety check before operating hours. Universal Studios Singapore officials worked closely with Singapore authorities and theme park safety experts to determine the cause of the failure and to correct the fault. After months of re-engineering and many thousands of test cycles, Battlestar Galactica is ready to welcome riders once again.
Each Battlestar Galactica track is a kilometer-long and the ride take approximately 90 seconds to complete.

Universal Studios Singapore hopes to open the long-awaited Madagascar: A Crate Adventure attraction in the first half of 2011, with a ride based on the Transformers movies to follow later in the year. Themed boat ride Magagascar: A Crate Adventure was originally due to open with the rest of Universal Studios Singapore in March 2010, but has been plagued by technical problems. Previous reports have suggested that these could lead to the complete removal of some sections of the ride prior to its eventual opening.
The Transformers attraction was announced in June 2009, with a version also due to open at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2012. It will be located in the Sci-Fi City area of the park. Screamscape reports that the Battlestar Galactica dueling rollercoasters could also make a return in early 2011. A serious incident during a routine test in March led to the attraction's closure just a week after it first opened, when a seat flew off one of the coasters' trains. Manufacturer Vekoma has since replaced all of the trains, but the park must still obtain safety clearance from Singapore authorities before Battlestar Galactica can reopen.
Despite being without two of its headline attractions throughout its opening season, Universal Studios Singapore still drew over 1 million visitors during the first six months after its opening. The average daily attendance at the park is now around a whopping 8,000 guests.
Jurong General Hospital is part of Jurong Health Services. Slated to open in 2014, the 700-bed acute hospital will be twinned with a 280-bed community hospital to provide patients with holistic and integrated care. Conveniently located within walking distance from the Jurong East MRT and Jurong East Bus Interchange, Jurong General Hospital will be collaborating closely with other healthcare partners including primary care providers such as General Practitioners and polyclinics, hospitals, long term care providers and voluntary welfare organisations.
The Hospital Planning Department: Hospital Planning is a unique department set up specifically to oversee and coordinate the design and construction of our new regional hospital, Jurong General Hospital, that caters to fast medicine. Working closely with the end users (doctors, nurses, allied health and administrators from the hospital), Hospital Planning will be the key driver working in close collaboration with the Architects and Medical Planners to plan and design our new hospital building.
A design competition held in mid 2009 saw many exciting entries from local and international architects. The competition was a platform to select the best building consultant/architect as the main Consultant and we were on the lookout for an organisation which understands the complexity of a healthcare building with sensitivity to the needs of a patient. CPG Consultants, HOK (USA) and Studio 505 (Australia) submitted the winning design, which incorporated features like:
A window for every patient - to improve lighting, ventilation and external views for the patient.
Healing environment - to incorporate natural and outdoor views through the window next to every bed. This would create a calming and restful environment which would help in the healing process of the patient.
Sense of connection with the Community - integrated community space within the hospital with the facilities and parks nearby.
They have since conducted many workshops with the architects to revise the design specifications as well as the general massing of the buildings. In the planning of these features the vision of the hospital remains as the focal point:
The Patient is their focus - Patients will be treated with respect, dignity and compassion. We will treat our staff likewise so that they can be expected to extend the same care towards our patients. Patient care will be integrated and holistic - The whole continuum of patient care will be coordinated and integrated, within the hospital and across the healthcare continuum (with Academic Medical Clusters, other hospitals and across step-down and primary care settings). Their focus would be on the "individual" within the patient; not just body parts or symptoms.
The hospital as a conducive innovation and research milieu - Staff are engaged in inquiry and research to continuously enhance medical care and patient experience. They will partner others to bring experimental clinical innovations for patient's benefits. A rich training ground for the next generation of healthcare providers. Ensure a systematic and integrated curriculum for medical and healthcare professionals.
A commitment to build a healthcare institution for generations to come.
At The Moving Body, they make it a must to give their clients personalised, quality service, which explains why they keep classes small (six students or less at a time) and their teachers are highly qualified in their field of expertise.
And because they know that the needs of their clients are constantly changing, their teachers often turn into learners themselves too, always seeking new knowledge (through teacher training, conferences and conducting weekly workshops at The Moving Body’s studio) to meet those needs.
That’s why they are proud to be a mentoring centre for Polestar Pilates. Recognised by the Pilates Method Alliance, Polestar Pilates is internationally renowned to have a pilates-evolved curriculum with a strong scientific background that has strong links to rehabilitation and fitness principles. For information on mentoring and how to become a certified Polestar Pilates teacher, email them.

Because we want you to lead more active, healthy and happy lives.
They know their clients are their students, or learners, but they also think of them as their friends. They stress the importance of making sure they feel comfortable and at ease at The Moving Body so they let individual learner’s goals and expectations drive each and every consultation and lesson. They place the strongest emphasis on their clients’ happiness, safety and comfort.

Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort is the only resort in Singapore with a beachfront location on Sentosa Island overlooking the South China Sea. Situated on Siloso Beach, the resort aims to be the destination of choice for both business and leisure travellers. It enjoys proximity to mainland Singapore, which is conveniently linked by a causeway. Besides numerous island attractions and VivoCity - one of the largest shopping malls in Singapore - the resort is minutes away from Southeast Asia's first Universal Studios.
After 17 years in business, the resort is currently undergoing a complete makeover on its guestrooms and facilities including the swimming pool, gym, spa, children's club, food and beverage outlets and function rooms. The resort will categorize its rooms according to the view - hill, pool and sea - and each room will have a balcony so that guests can enjoy the lush natural surroundings. New room types will better cater to the needs of different groups of travelers. For instance, a guest traveling with children can check into a Deluxe Family Pool View Room with child-friendly facilities and extra luggage space, while a couple on their honeymoon can check into a Panorama Room with an open concept bathroom that offers a panoramic sea view.
Other enhancements to the guestrooms include soundproof double walls and a space-saving extra bed that folds into a wall. To provide guests with greater convenience, a guest pantry will be available on selected floors to provide additional amenities, such as an ice dispenser and a vending machine for snacks. Premium rooms will be located on the 10th and 11th floors, which require key card access.
The project is targeted for completion in early 2011, after which Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore will re-open as Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort.

The National Art Gallery, Singapore (working title) is a new visual arts institution which will contribute to building Singapore as a regional and international hub for visual arts. It will focus on the display, appreciation, promotion, research and study of Southeast Asian and Singaporean art, as well as play host to international art exhibitions.
Situated in the heart of the Civic District, the City Hall and adjacent former Supreme Court building - two important heritage buildings symbolic of Singapore's nationhood - will be converted to house this exciting new visual arts venue, and is anticipated to be completed by 2013. The National Art Gallery will be a civic and creative space, established for the enrichment, enjoyment and engagement of Singapore residents and visitors from all over the world. The National Art Gallery is a subsidiary of the National Heritage Board.
With its Southeast Asian focus, the National Art Gallery aims to be accessible to its visitors and users, in physical, intellectual, cultural, social and virtual terms. The National Art Gallery will provide a regional cultural backdrop, broad interpretation framework for understanding Singapore's culture and heritage in the context of visual arts development in the regional and international arts scene.
City Hall Built in 1929, the City Hall building was originally called the "Municipal Building" and housed the then-Municipal Council, who was responsible for the construction of roads, bridges and markets, street lighting, and the provision of water from reservoirs to the town. In September 1951, Singapore was conferred city status by King George VI, and the building was renamed as the "City Hall". The City Hall has been the stage for many important events in Singapore's history, from the Japanese surrender to the British in 1945, to the declaration of Singapore's independence in 1965 by then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Since then, the City Hall continued to house various government departments such as the Public Utilities Board, the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Court and the former Ministry of Culture. It was eventually vacated in 2005.
Supreme Court Built between 1930 and 1939, the adjacent former Supreme Court Building's primary purpose was to serve the judiciary system of Singapore. An interesting amalgamation of British architectural themes, its façade was designed to match City Hall, with classical architecture and corresponding Corinthian columns. It is also known for its spacious interiors featuring murals by Italian artist, Cavalieri Rodolfo Nolli. The former Supreme Court Building contains five court rooms, a Court of Appeal, library, registry, and accommodations for advocates and other necessary offices. To keep apace with the growing demands and rapid changes of Singapore's society, the judiciary shifted out of this building into a new Supreme Court Building in 2005.
Studio Milou Architecture's winning design for the National Art Gallery of Singapore elegantly integrates the historic Supreme Court and City Hall buildings at roof level through the use of a linear draped canopy supported by tree-like columns. A strong link is made between the two buildings through a new basement level, bringing visitors down to a concourse area beneath the buildings before they make their way up into the higher levels of the Gallery.
Dramatic new spaces are created through the extension of existing stairways and the introduction of links between the two buildings. A new glass roof structure provides a spectacular exhibition space bathed in filtered natural light that is capable of hosting the largest pieces of modern and contemporary art.
Overall, the design reflects Studio Milou Architecture's expertise in museum design and planning, as well as its extensive experience in the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings.
