The new hospital in Yishun is pulling out all the stops to bring forward the opening of its wards to ease the bed crunch which has plagued public hospitals since late last year.

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) will take in its first inpatients towards the end of June, three months ahead of schedule. By then, more than 200 of its 550 beds will be available and ready.

The shortage of beds at other public hospitals has resulted in non-emergency treatments being delayed; the situation has been so critical at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) that patients have found themselves in beds along corridors, waiting for vacant rooms.
